GATHER AROUND KIDS, LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT WILD ARMS 4

Not that I'm going to tell the story beats of this game but <SPOILER WARNING> is in effect.

To begin with... I didn't know. I didn't know about Wild Arms 4. I've been around the block and all I've ever heard about this game was that it was kind of mid and they changed up the combat system.

Nobody told me that this game's plot is GLORIOUS NONSENSE.. and the villains of the game are absolute maniacal bitches.

I'm not kidding. There's a cutscene of a group of evil old men talking about their evil plans ending with a collective evil laugh for like a good 30 seconds. Yes. Chefs kiss 🤌 the cherry on top is they don't matter at all, the party never meets them.

It's peak anime shenanigans. Okay, There's a guy who's nickname is Duke of Gore, who rides a jetpack and wields an anti-tank chainsaw.. Does he do some anti-tank stuff? Lol no.. he hits a speeding train with his chainsaw and makes it go flying away. Most of the villains die in these ridiculous last stands that they didn't need to. And of course in the end, you will win using the power friendship.

I am in no way going to tell people that this is a "good game". The MC sucks and main cast of party members are boring. The overworld sucks. The combat system is good, it's fine, some people really like it. I could not get through the game if the combat was also terrible. The music is not bad. Some towns definitely do that western theme really well. Actually I'd say a highlight is the NPCs in the fact that each and every one of them is a unique model and some of them continually relocate around the map as the party progresses.

If you're looking to play a game where the story is so bad that it's entertaining, if you get a kick out of over the top anime antics then you should play Wild Arms 4.

Any thoughts on WA4? Are there other so bad that it's good jrpgs out there you would recommend?

These were the exact games on my shelf in the early 2000s

With one exception being Metal Gear VR missions, it didn't show up on their list.

CLOSE THE DOOR DAD, I'M PLAYING XENOSAGA

Boy these devs got some balls. They said F**k whatever schedule you got going on, you're watching this game.

But for real, I got some questions for the Xeno-heads.

I'm about a quarter the way in.. I think, I'm on the Elsa and I just did the part with Jr. That was uh... really of an era. How much am I going to need to stare at a guide because I'm already checking one, I know I missed a bunch of things. Particularly the emails, investing emails? I'm bad it checking random spots, like go examine this plain ass wall for no reason and find really important gear.

It doesn't seem too too important, I'm having no problem with fights.

Are there any good recommendations for investing ether, tech and skill points?

I knew about the cutscenes going in and I'm here for it. I'm here for the anime nonsense too and the super serious universe building, I love it all.

2nd query I got is how do Xenoblade 1, 2 and 3 differ from Xenoblade X. Just before starting Saga, I tried out XBCX and it just wasn't for me. I don't like MMO style of gaming. I don't like auto battling and the skill/healing system was annoying me. I was trying to give it a chance, I wanted to get to flying a mech around.. maybe I'll try again, not anytime soon though.

I heard characters from Saga are in XBC2 and that's interesting me, I hope the combat and fetch questing greatly differs from XBCX.

And If you feel like gushing about xenosaga and all it's 2000ish cringey glory, I welcome it. Cheers.

My predictions for Starleap

These predictions aren't for story or characters, more so the broad reception. I'm not entirely pessimistic nor optimistic; I am hopeful and trying to be objective here based on a multitude of factors but ultimately I don't know anything for sure, I can't predict the future.

First of, I think it'll have a decent initial release but ios and pc only platforms is gonna hurt the potential player count. This is a console Jrpg series and a lot of gamers in the Jrpg space skew toward the console side. The suiko sickos will be there day 1 but I think a lot of Jrpg fans might be wait and see. See how the gacha is our just wait in general. This is where persona phantom x is right now. It's doing decently but we know it's not hitting full potential considering just how many people loved P5R.

Of course there's some of us that are all about the gacha. I wonder how finite that player base is though. It's not a space I know a lot about as I was never interested in any gacha game before. My prediction is the ios people might try out Starleap but be hard pressed to tear them away from the big ones out there like Genshin and the Pokemon one.

It's hard to predict how intrinsic to the game the gacha element will be. We get a main story, beginning to end but those that start buying characters will have to have additional content to play. Episodes? More campaign storylines in the future? How much will those be intertwined with the gacha?

The anime will gain no traction if it's not on streaming. I hardly ever see anime fans talk about Jrpg anime adaptations. I think they'll make money with it by doing box sets.

Overall I predict the sales and player base will be decent for a little while. People will clamour for, talk about and predict a console release and it won't happen... Not Until sales really start to drop off.. this will possibly be years. Then they'll drop the offline, main storyline game for console ie: Octopath 0. As long as the story and gameplay is good, that's when Suikoden will make it's real comeback.

Any thoughts?

I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna play Suikoden 4.

It's the big blind spot for me in this series. I finished all the mainlines except 4. I got it way back in 2005ish and bounced off it hard and I didn't even get very far.

Since then, I've got a lot stronger tolerance for.. questionable choices, jank, and general "mid" from JRPGs especially if I fully know what I'm getting into and go in anyway. I've gotten through Suikoden 3's very flawed designs, twice, and I've come to love it.

Anything I should know going in (non spoiler)? I already know about the slow ship travel and 4 member party. Is the random encounter rate egregious?

I'm hoping it has enough of the Suikoden charm and has at least a decent story.

Help me find this survival thriller

I've seen this movie maybe about 5 years ago. I apologize in advance for not remembering many details but I'll try..

The movies main character is a younger guy who has to hide and survive from a gang of criminals. I think the criminals needed the land. I could be wrong there.

It takes place in a very rural Midwest area. A lot of open space. Possibly oil fields but I could be wrong there too. I believe mc witnesses the criminals executing someone he knows. He was hiding in a barn I think.

There's possibly a chase scene with him on a dirt bike. Or he just rides a dirt bike from place to place. I think he works in a general store or small mechanic shop or a bar. The people are killed there too.. I'm hazy on all that..

I don't think there was any big name actors but the acting was good and believable.

I might have seen this on Netflix.

I wish I could remember more details, that's why it's difficult to Google this to begin with..

Jackpot Numbers On Roulette

It had been a minute since I been to this casino near me, recently I discovered they added Jackpot numbers to their video roulette. I'll explain further..

After bets are placed and the dealer spins the ball, Jackpots of either 50x, 100x, 175x and 250x are placed on between 2 and 5 random numbers including 0 and 00. The bet has to be placed on the exact number to get the jackpot.

I didn't do any math on this but I figured if I covered the board in $1 chips as much as I could while mitigating loss, eventually I'd hit some Jackpots. I saw in the recent history that Jackpots did come up.

To start since the payout for one number is 30 to 1.. which I noticed.. it was 30 not 35 for some reason, so I began putting $1 on 30 numbers. That's 30 out of 38 where if I didn't hit a jackpot but one of my numbers did hit I wouldn't lose money. Then I thought, if I'm willing to lose 1 or 2 dollars a spin, I can cover more odds so I did 5 spins each of 31/38 and 32/38.

In about 20 minutes time, I hit a 175x and a 100x jackpot and two times my numbers missed and took a loss. I didn't count the spins but dealer didn't work like a clock.

I didn't play that long as I was with my gf and she wanted to do other stuff. I want to go back with a more tempered strategy and more time.

What do y'all think? Are the stats in my favor? Any strategies come to mind? Anything I'm missing? Is it too risky to try with higher values? Would you recommend I don't do it at all?

----Update after interacting with commenters----

I was totally expecting people to advise against gambling, that's a given, I tell people that myself. I didn't think there'd be such an aversion to simply discussing statistics about this game on "askStatistics". A lot of comments were removed for some reason. Seems like the sentimentality is don't ask, don't think, don't do it.

I'm no genius and this isn't a brag but every single time but once I've gone to play roulette, I've come home with money. Hundreds. I understand the game inside and out and I've developed and tested several betting strategies. The jackpot thing was new to me and threw me for a loop and I laid out a loose strat rather quickly that paid off.

Now are any of my methods full proof? No. Do I think i have an infinite money glitch? No. Am I still scared by the risks. Yes. Should I not bother because "the house always wins". Hell no. If you think you'll never win as the underdog, you're just not thinking creatively enough.

Again to never gamble is totally valid, the risk is on me myself and I.

I'm curious if anyone else feels this...

I'm generally positive with games in this genre because I love it. I often find it hard to answer questions like "what's the worst jrpg?" "What game did you turn off an hour in?". I pretty much always know what I'm getting into and pick games I know I will like, which is a majority of the genre. I may form some criticisms and dislike a few aspects but again, generally positive even on mid games.

I'm in a lot of different communities and I find a lot of people, not majority, but a good amount let a few things they dislike get in the way of experiencing a lot of games. They come in with preconceived notions, pre-disappointment, skepticism, and sometimes to my brain, have baffling reasons why they "hate" a game. Example: Gamer can't stand FE Engage because when you leave a map prep screen and come back the game didn't place hold the units.

Sometimes it's baffling why they even bothered. IE: Persona 5 is trash because the characters have to go to school everyday. Did you read anything about the game?

I love RPGs but FF 7 remake total garbage. Oh, weird I enjoyed it, why is it garbage? It just is.

I know it sounds like I'm straw manning some hypothetical ragebait but I've literally had these convos.. weirdly a lot.

Then there's game announcements where there's always some part of the community or comments that are instantly negative. Got this with Persona recently. Somehow the series is cooked? Atlus kills it with every new game, sets new sales records, and continually builds upon every new thing they do, but okay.

I know something of how difficult and time consuming it is to make a game and I can't fathom what it takes to make a game as big as a Persona or a FF and it's so easy to dismiss that.

I know a majority of us aren't buying into all that negativity. You can dislike a game of course, I would prefer some critical thought be put into it. Sometimes I feel like a golden retriever being happy to get to play so many fantastic RPGs out there.

To wrap up my thoughts I'll say.. I know this pattern of thought is not indicative of just this community, it's something that permeates across the internet. A vocal minority sounding like the majority where it doesn't help the fact that rage and complaining and doom thought is contagious within human psychology. Let's always do our best to encourage critical thinking.
