been in a few threads this week where someone's conversions quietly died or a tag got wiped and nobody caught it until reporting time. feels like it happens to basically everyone running client accounts eventually. wild that there's not really a standard way people deal with it, seems like it's mostly luck or habit whether you catch it early

I'm seeing a lot of "check GSC vs GA4, use BigQuery, eyeball it weekly" type answers in here, but curious if anyone's actually paying for a tool instead of doing that by hand every time. if you are, what made you pull the trigger vs just living with catching stuff late sometimes? and if you tried something and dropped it, what happened? Did it stop being worth the money or did it just sit there not catching anything for a while and you forgot about it

keep seeing this happen — tag stops firing, event volume goes quiet, GSC and GA4 start disagreeing — and it just sits there until someone happens to open a report and go "wait that number's off." curious what people actually do day to day. do you have some kind of daily check, a spreadsheet, alerts set up, or is it mostly just remembering to look

and if you do have a system for it — has it ever actually failed you? like you had the check in place and it still slipped through

im not looking for a fix, just wondering if this happens to other people too. ga4 says one number, the ad platform says another, and somehow the client's the one who brings it up first instead of anyone catching it internally. does that happen on your end or do you guys usually catch it before they do?

No missing tags, nothing red in diagnostics, everything looked fine on our end. Only came up because the client asked why the two numbers didn't match, and I didn't have a good answer for them.

What tipped you off the last time this happened to you?

when a report takes way longer than it should, is it usually the data being weird (broken tracking, numbers not matching), or is it more the part where you guys are stuck trying to explain what happened in a way the client won't come back with 10 questions

saw a thread where someone's GA4 tag was silently broken for 2 weeks and only caught it while pulling a report. curious how common that actually is — do you have some kind of monitoring/alert set up, or is it usually just caught by accident when the numbers look off?

I'm new to marketing, and I want to know what actually eats up time? The data gathering or writing the explanations for the client?
