Update on my walking castle game.

Almost a year ago I posted a gif here of my work in progress walking castle I'm making for a video game. I've since redone most of the art. It is a strategy game with RPG elements set in a feudal sci-fi world. The backstory is that you built a walking castle out of a crashed asteroid mining space ship.

Roaming around in a walking castle has been a fantasy of mine since I was a kid. So, I want to make the world really atmospheric and fun to explore. I want players to be able to explore a huge map to mine resources, trade, and defend against monsters that show up when your castle sits down to build a base.

If you want to see more, there are lots of screenshots, gifs, and game lore on the Steam page.

If you have any feedback or suggestions for how I can add even more character, I'm excited to hear it.

I'm developing a feudal sci-fi strategy game. You are the lord of a walking castle built from a crashed spaceship.

Here is the basic gameplay loop. You can see more gifs of the gameplay on Steam.

  • Hunt down and salvage scrapfalls (crashed space ships and stations)
  • Build a temporary base around the site (mines, factories, and weapons)
  • Destroy the aliens infesting the scrapfall as you cut it apart.
  • Profit, upgrade, trade, explore
  • Repeat

The game is also set in an open world with multiple factions that you can interact with.

Update on my walking castle game.

Some of what I've added to Scraptory in the eight months since I last posted here: I totally reworked the art, added mini-castle units, added resource pipes that snap together to connect buildings, added dialog and trade systems, a faction relationship system, procedurally generated wave based encounters, trees you can crush, a big laser on top, optimization, and the game has a story.

I also hired a capsule artist and totally redid the Steam page, please check it out. I’m editing an announcement trailer now. So, keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks.

Scraptory is a “feudal sci-fi open-world sandbox strategy roguelite.” If that sounds interesting, please consider wishlisting it on Steam or joining the Discord. I am all ears for marketing advice and feedback. If you visit the Steam page, be sure to scroll down to the gifs!

I feel like I can finally justify one of these.

It has been eight months since I last posted about my walking castle game, and I’ve been working on it almost every day since. Here are the highlights: totally reworked the art, added mini-castle units, added resource pipes that snap together to connect buildings, added dialog and trade systems, a faction relationship system, procedurally generated wave based encounters, trees you can crush, a big laser on top, optimization, and the game has a story.

I also hired a capsule artist and totally redid the Steam page, please check it out. It’s finally all coming together. At least enough that I think I can start trying to market it. I’m editing an announcement trailer now. So, keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks.

Scraptory is a blend of genres, but I’ve decided to call it a “feudal sci-fi open-world sandbox strategy roguelite” If that sounds interesting to you, please consider giving it a wishlist on Steam or joining the Discord. I am all ears for marketing advice and feedback. If you visit the Steam page, be sure to scroll down to the gifs!
