On this day in 1957, Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story" had its world premiere at Washington's National Theatre.

The show — a contemporary retelling of Romeo and Juliet set among rival gangs on New York's Upper West Side — had come to Washington for a three-week pre-Broadway tryout. Opening night drew what National Theatre staff called the dressiest crowd they'd seen in ages: senators, ambassadors, Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter, and Mrs. Robert Kennedy among them.

WETA's Boundary Stones has the full story of this magical night: https://boundarystones.weta.org/2014/06/16/night-west-side-story-opened-washington

I used to be a homeless addict with no will to live and now I'm crocheting in a hammock in the courtyard of the home I own with the LOML and our 3 cats, Sunday relaxing before going into uni tomorrow for my PhD in my passion subject.

I just wanna hold child me and tell her "we did it" 🥹

And for anyone that needs to hear it, you can do it too! It's not easy, but it's worth it.

Edit: thanks for all the love, my phone's dying and I refuse to leave the hammock to get a charger but I appreciate all of it all the same 🖤

Edit 2: I have added cat tax and the Welsh balaclava to my profile

Where is the outrage for Trump’s lawsuit settlement of $1.7B by suing the government he *leads*?

This conman/grifter/felon (who should be in jail) sued his government in a sham of a lawsuit. Why aren’t people outraged? Law abiding citizens are having their taxes highjacked to pay off Jan 6 felons and his political cronies

Constitutionally, it’s not allowed, but he did it anyway. The GOP and the Supreme Court are feckless. This slide towards autocracy is infuriating

Our “representatives” have failed us and we should be taking to the streets like citizens of other countries when their government fails them

For the “don’t tread on me” crowd, you can trash your propaganda because you obviously don’t understand the concept

This Scammer Used an AI-Generated MAGA Girl to Grift ‘Super Dumb’ Men

Sam’s explanation for why MAGA influencer accounts work is blunt: “The MAGA crowd is made up of dumb people—like, super dumb people. And they fall for it.”)
