Hammer the Hammer, anyone?

Hamilton Road2Hope marathon has an interesting combo - I signed up for the full Hammer the Hammer experience. Just wondering if anyone here is doing it.

5k and 10k on Saturday October 31

Marathon on November 1 (also option to do the half marathon)

Cost wise 5K, 10K, Marathon combined would still be less than the current rate for Waterfront marathon, its sold out but assuming you can find a bib.

Should I upgrade?

I’m a runner (3 years experience / 3:30 marathon) trying to get into cycling for no-pound zone 2 benefits short term or immediate and ironman in 5-7 years timeline (learning swimming as an adult is 😭).

I currently have this regular hybrid (or I think it is) that my friend just gifted me when he got his carbon fibre bike. This as you can expect is on the heavier side but is something I can ride. I have never tried a drop bar (just learned the term today), never went close to carbon fibre (except when cyclists ride close enough to hit me while on my run). I know how to ride is all and max I have gone is 30 km/hr on this bike last summer. I run 10+ hours a week, so I can put in the time if my mind likes the activity.

Do I need a more expensive bike?- I can afford it (if Im able to sell the idea to the wife who wants me to ride this bike for 1 month to make sure this sensation is not fleeting). I could spend around $5,000 (Canadian/ around $3800 USD) and live in Toronto with ride potential for 6 months at best.

Appreciate all of you, I think if you 🏃‍♂️🚴‍♀️🏊‍♂️, you are a badass - love and respect, happy riding ♥️!

Love living in a condo- confused!

Hello,
I started renting this 22nd floor condo in 2024 and boy I’ve fallen in love with this life.

- waking up to a glorious sunrise and having coffee watching the CN tower glow
- taking an elevator to the cardio room and running when its -20 outside
- Wednesday movie nights with the wife in our private mini theatre
- hot tub and sauna recovery sessions
- no snow clearing, storage and covered parking

Investment wise though, a condo sounds less appealing- it doesn’t improve as much equity wise, maintenance fee goes up every year. I would love to buy my current condo unit but it being a 2012 build with $1,000 maintenance (2bed, 2 bath + den) there is literally no growth in sight.

How do condo owners justify the buy when a house appreciates so much more? Or in my scenario is paying the $2,900 in rent recommended to do and invest the reminder.

Photo of my sunrise for aesthetic reference.
