Brave Little Bird

Took these a couple weeks ago at the pool. Was floating down the lazy river with my mom and realized a Mississippi Kite was flying around. We are right on the edge of where they spend part of the year so I love seeing them and they are one of my fave birds of prey. At some point it finally landed and I took pictures and realized there was some small bird sitting real close to it lol. Couldn't tell what the little bird was. It was too far away. Brave little thing lol.

A Use For My Shirts

So it's been over a decade since I worked at the khaki's and blue store. Long enough that wearing khaki's and a blue shirt is not longer the dresscode.

I worked there for 6 years and most of it as a cashier. Leading up to me quiting to go on maternity leave (and never returning) I had issues with higher management. About the last year and a half had been miserable.

My direct manager though was a gem and she was the main thing that got me through that time.

But none the less. I left that store with a lot of resentment.

I knew I wasn't coming back and immediately donated my khaki's. However.... most of my shirts were in such worn condition that I didn't feel right donating them. I also didn't want to throw them away. Fabric is a major source of trash across the planet in large part cause of fast fashion. So I don't like throwing away fabric unless it has no remaining use. Then the light bulb went off and I thought of the most delightful way to deal with them.

We... were cloth diapering. I had made a bunch of fabric wipes. I figured.... why not expand my stock. So I HIGHLY santizied the shirts. And then took to cutting them up into squares. Made quite a bit.

Did they last as long as my kid was in diapers? No. They were old shirts and didn't have much life left. But for at least a couple years. I pretty consistently was using my old work shirts to wipe my kids ass. And so... kinda felt like I was wiping his butt literally with my job because of how ingrained those shirts were with it.

Upon telling my old coworkers, including my direct manager, everyone thought it was incredibly funny and found it a very appropriate use of my shirts. Dunno if it ever got around to the managers I had issues with... but I like to think it did.

Not much for revenge.... but it was petty. Made me feel better about everything I had dealt with there.

Any Medical Anime Suggestions?

So my kiddo is sick and he's a very inquisitive kid (he's almost 11). He's also been gaining interest in the human body. Has a fever and we were stressing the importance of drinking fluids and he asked if people can die of fever or dehydration..... my response? About a 30 minute conversation explaining and then the next day we watched Osmosis Jones.... my kid has been drinking his fluids after being VERY concerned for Frank's life lol.

But now he wants to watch other shows that explain the human body. The only things I know of that are regular animation are Osmosis Jones and a couple Magic School Bus episodes.

Then I remembered Cells at Work exists! Never seen it but it feels up the right alley for him and what he is looking for. Was sad to see it doesn't have many episodes though....

Been searching around crunchyroll and so far I have Cells at Work!, Cells at Work CODE BLACK, and Parallel World Pharmacy (might not be in the human body but I'm sure he'll appreciate the science).

Anyone have any other recommendations along these lines? Animes that are medically based but are rooted more in reality than fantasy? It's okay if there is some fantasy if there is still very real science being talked about and done (like Parallel World Pharmacy).

Mom found in her garage

Went over to my mom and grandmas house and almost immediately my mom pulled this out and asked me what it is.

None of us have a clue.

I don't if they are supposed to be, but the hooks are a little loose.

How to make recommended video overlay on videos work on tv? Can't watch In Space with Markiplier without it.

So my son is a Markiplier fan (as am I) but he has never gotten to watch In Space With Markiplier(couldn't pay attention long enough). We were gonna watch it on our smart tv. But at the end of the video, where there should be an overlay suggesting the two video "options" that pop up on top of the video for continuing... nothing is showing up.

Same on his tablet (for A Heist with Markiplier).

But the overlay shows up on my phone and my computer.

Why is it not showing up on my tv? Is there some setting I have to do?

You literally can't watch the movie without this feature.

Is the Pfaff Creative 2140 a good machine?

So I am currently having a dilemma. I have been sewing on a cheap little Brother machine for years. Have dreamed up upgrading to a good machine.

The other day I was at my local thrift store and there was a Pfaff Creative 2140 Embroidery/Sewing machine for $350. There is an upcoming 50% off day... and I'll be able to get it for $175 if I get there right when they open. It comes with a ton of accessories. It's also been serviced recently by the local sewing machine repair shop.

I'm trying to look up info on the machine... but wanted general opinions from anyone who might have used one. Is this a good machine for sewing AND embroidery? Is using it difficult? It seems like it's an older machine from what I've found online. Is finding needles or parts for it difficult? Is the upkeep hard?

I would love some opinions here.

I've told my husband that $175 is pretty crazy for a machine like this and really good machines like I dream of getting are insanely expensive. So this feels worth it... but I don't know.

Does sulky thread suck? Or is this just old?

Okay. So I thrift almost all of my supplies. Been sewing a while and only in the last year found out thread can go bad. Truly had no idea. I have slowly been doing the pull test on all my thread and making a pile of "bad thread"

I sadly cannot test thread at the thrift store as it is wrapped up. So I have only been grabbing what I personally recognize as new thread (based on the stickers and spools), and only from brands I know as good or reliable brands (I thought Sulky was one of those).

Well. Today I was taking some of my new thread and double checking I was actually identifying new thread and so far I have been spot on with every single Coats spool. However... every single spool of sulky I have yanked on and it has snapped easier then some of the spools that I know are very old.

So my question is... are these old spools? Do I just not know what a new spool of Sulky looks like? Or does Sulky just suck? Is it cause it's not cotton?

Because I have never actually used Sulky, I just had always heard it was a good brand. So I have no clue. Especially the two on the ends, the stickers looked new and are still firmly stuck to the spools.

I'm really bummed because I am in love with especially the varigated thread and was looking forward to using it.

A great mothers day

I will eternally marvel at how I got so lucky with my husband. Be 19 years on the 15th. The man always goes full effort on Mothers Day though. Doesn't matter that our anniversary is so close to Mothers day. He always makes both our anniversary and mothers day special and seperate from each other.

This was the breakfast I woke up to (bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, strawberries, and toast). With gifts from him and our kid. Wasn't allowed to do anything but relax the whole weekend. Then he grilled for dinner.

He also made homemade cheesecake (he's taken up baking the last like 6 months) that will be ready to eat tomorrow and cleaned.

But he miss timed the bacon so my food was a bit cold because he didn't finish everything at the same time. He fails at hashbrowns and felt bad for having to buy frozen ones. He didn't realize the cheesecake recipe called for an item we didn't have (a brining bag) then the new recipe he picked called for more cream cheese so he had to go get another block. Then he didn't realize after that that it had to chill over night and he should have "made it yesterday" cause it wasn't gonna be done in time to enjoy it on mothers day. He cleaned but did not clean as much as he planned to. I had a presummably sodium induced headache (I have hypertension) from eating too much salt on saturday, so he felt bad cause he had planned my breakfast around it being a cheat day for me and feels bad for making me stuff with too much salt for mothers day.

That ^^^ is all he sees.

Meanwhile I just see the effort and love him so much for being so attentive. For wanting to use his new hobby to make me something (I am a crafter and love handmade gifts made through someones skill, so him baking for me is special to me). I see him staying up later to take over bedtime (for our son and my birds) because my headache was so bad, even though I could tell he was exhausted and really needed to go to bed. Him getting a big section of our living room clean (which is a disaster cause we are decluttering). I see the, regardless of being salt heavy, delicious breakfast that I really enjoyed especially since I haven't gotten to enjoy regular bacon in a minute. I see the effort in picking out really sweet and cute gifts.

It will forever frustrate me that this amazing, loving, caring man... just sees the "failures" in what he does for me. While I am just happy that he cares so god damn much.

He'll beat himself up as I grab his face, kiss him, and tell him "I don't care that the cheesecake will be a day late. I am just happy you made it and I know it will be delicious."

But as frustrating as it can be, it's also endearing that he wants so badly for everything to be perfect because "it's what you deserve". Even though he is perfect to me regardless because his intent is always so clear and I will remind him of that everytime.

Anyway. It was a great day. Yummy food. Relaxed and played some Rollercoaster Tycoon. Fed some squirrels on my porch. Could have done without the headache though lol.

What a ride indeed...

Was playing some Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 tonight and went to build a prebuilt coaster... either I never tried to build this one or the last time I built it my brain was still innocent.

Mr.Sawyer... I have questions...
