Halloween Freeguild Cavalier Marshall

Halloween Freeguild Cavalier Marshall

Each year in October I try to paint a special, spooky, just-for-fun model or unit. Last year it was some Halloween themed Necrons, this year I’m doing a terrifying zombie freeguild cavalier Marshall! Still only early days but super jazzed about where it’s at so far.

Warhammer 40K Adepta Sororitas Canoness

Calling this one done - at least for now. I wanna go back in to tidy up some of the reflections and smooth the blends, but after 50 hour work I’m happy to draw a line under this project.

Attempting nmm on a full suit of armour was super demanding, especially in trying to simulate where the light would be hitting - I was shocked at the level of brain work I needed to maintain to even get it this far, and this is far from perfect! Really pleased with it nevertheless.

NMM Canoness

Finally calling this one done (for now)!

Will definitely be going back in to further refine it down the line (I’m just now noticing the little buttons on her pack aren’t done lmao) but I’m super happy to leave it here for the time being.

Easily 50 hours work went into this one, so I’ll be moving on to some batch painting for instant gratification next 🫠

WIP Canoness

Finally almost done with this one! Bar the bolters it’s just refinement left, so excited to see how she comes together in the end!

Warhammer 40K Canoness (WIP)

Finally closing in on the finish line with this one. Have to add some bounce highlights to the armour in front, and do a fair bit of refining to the back, but I’m seeing the vision!

Another Neophyte down

Took a short break from neophytes due to inclement mini priming conditions, but just got the remaining 18 of them primed and am on to batch painting - start to finish each one is working out around 2 hours, which feels like a nice balance of efficiency and detail!

Canoness WIP

Almost time to reattach her arm and start on the base! Gonna spend the night finishing the gold nmm as I think it’s still reading as yellow on the jump pack decoration. Then it’s finishing her robes and getting her arm on! End is in sight!

NMM is finally clicking for me and it feels great (current WIP vs first attempt)

I’ve been trying to learn how to render non-metallic metal for ages now, and after many failed attempts, I think I’m finally getting it! As with anything, consistent practice is the way to do it. Im finally getting close to how I always wanted my sisters to look, and its very exciting

Labouring late into the night trying to make this thing as extra as humanly possible

We’ve got the silver windows, we’ve got the wrought iron braziers, we’ve got the stonework seating for those braziers. We’ve got gradients on every possible surface, we’ve got three layers of highlights on the suitcase Aquila, and this is only the right hand side baby.

I really love how extra sisters are as a faction, I think it’s what makes them the most 40k army of all, and I feel like I owe it to that aesthetic to put in the effort to meet it where it’s at

WIP on my first tank!

Super early WIP on my castigator but I’m really excited with how it’s shaping up!

Painting her up to match my argent shroud sisters, but didn’t want to A) paint the whole thing in tmm silver, or B) paint the whole thing in NMM silver (I’m not out here trying to speedrun carpal tunnel lmao), so I’m opting for the cream and red accents of their robes, with some nmm silver on the windows and guns.

(Not an official gw model btw, I’m lucky enough to have a friend with a 3d printer)

Second neophyte down!

This one took a bit longer than the first owing to the big gun and chunkier frame, but I’m happy as hell with it (about 6 hours work).

I’ve decided to call my cult the Jovian Mining Combine, and I imagine them as an interplanetary mining outfit who specialise in deep sea operations.

Instead of their cult gestating in the bowles of a hive world, they remain reclusive and secretive aboard an immense coffin barge that ferries them from job to job. Think Innsmouth, but it’s a big spaceship. Probably not super in-keeping with 40K lore for a cult to spring up in the Jovian planets so close to Holy Terra, but I figure they’re small size and relative mobility aboard their ship keeps them hidden.

Am I supposed to be doing something??

I was initially due to sit my test in May, but was unable to due to bringing the wrong insurance docs (don’t mention the war). I immediately paid the fee to get back on the list, and was told by the tester that I should be called for my test again in July.

Fast forward to now and still not a whisper of a test - am I supposed to be doing something to make this happen or is it just a waiting game?

First Neophyte: done!

Hashed out a colour scheme for my neophytes! I’m going for a deep sea mining kinda look, I think it might be a cool pairing with the lovecraftian star children vibe. 19 more to go 🫪

Speedrunning Repentia

Slammed out three repentia in the last three nights! I’m a chronically slow painter usually, so bashing out a model in three or four hours has been a really fun challenge, though it’s been tough to make peace with messiness.

Hoping to get the fourth and the superior finished before the weekend!

4 hour repentia

Probably the quickest I’ve ever painted a model! Currently trying to get to the bottom of a combat patrol, but I’m unfortunately an asshole perfectionist, so blasting these out at a quality I’m pleased with has been an interesting challenge!

Trying to tack down quick, decent nmm on my repentia (WIP)

Been trying to hash out a method of doing nmm that doesn’t take twenty hours, using my repentia as guinea pigs. All told this is less than three hours work. Still got the tunic and chains, but I’m super pleased with where I was able to get it in such a short time

Nmm Kelermorph

Finally finished painting the best sculpt in all of 40k. Definitely my longest project to date, so naturally all I can see is the stuff I’d go back and change lol. Overall really pleased with it though, and super excited to get painting my reductus saboteur next :)
