Uncredited Guest Stars

I’ve spent my life watching the good episodes of Three’s Company with my family a billion times.

One thing that’s gotten me pondering recently is the idea of people who speak in the episodes but weren’t credited.

A particularly minor example is the man who played the maitre’d in “Lies My Roommate Told Me”.

You can’t see him in this picture and he’s only even seen from a distance in the episode, but when Janet and Mr. Furley enter the restaurant he says, “Right this way” and leads them inside.

As popular as Three’s Company is, it’s crazy to think there will be people seeing him and hearing his voice until the end of time…but will never have a way of finding out who he was or anything about him.

Takedowns of Hinduism?

You can search online and find many people ripping into Christianity, which makes sense given its prominence.

Hinduism is the religion I had to grow up with and which caused me immeasurable misery, though. Anything cathartic I can read and/or watch that you all know of?

Asian Parents Think You Exist To Give Them Bragging Rights

Basically the title says it all.

As long ago as it was I shouldn’t keep thinking about it, but it’s hard not to wonder what could have become of my life if I’d been allowed to decide on my own college major and what colleges to apply to.

The idiots felt entitled to decide every single thing for me - didn’t care one tiny bit how I felt - and one of the more infuriating things is that they chose certain colleges for absolutely no reason other than that they’re prestigious and then for the application I had to go through the website and pull reasons out of my ass as to why I was “interested” in the school.

Being an exceptional student can be a curse when you have Asian parents because they salivate over the idea of how you can get THEM the opportunity to brag.

EDIT 1: SamHainLoomis13 mentioned Walter and John Huston. Although I was only counting acting recognition, I didn't realize that, besides his many nominations (and two wins) for writing and directing, John was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for The Cardinal!

EDIT 2: ILootEverything reminded me Nicolas Cage is a Coppola. There should be an Aunt-Nephew category that says Talia Shire and Nicolas* Cage.

EDIT 3: SpideyFan914 has informed me that Tony Curtis was a nominee. That means he and Jamie Lee belong under Father-Daughter.

EDIT 4: juckr has informed me of a Sister-Sister pair I didn’t know about - Jennifer and Meg Tilly

EDIT 5: Two people in quick succession told me Fernanda Montenegro and Fernanda Torres are a pair. Wasn’t familiar with them but now I see they’re a Mother-Daughter duo both nominated.

FINAL EDIT: After input from various people (both on Facebook and on Reddit), I’ve got a revised list.

1988 Supporting Actors

Some very fascinating but very heartbreaking Oscar trivia.

The Best Supporting Actor nominees of 1988 were Kevin Kline (the winner), Martin Landau, Dean Stockwell, Sir Alec Guinness, and River Phoenix.

In other words, a nominee in his 40s, a nominee in his 50s, a nominee in his 60s, and a nominee in his 70s…and the teenage nominee died long before any of them.

Speed Dating Experiences?

I have tried speed dating five times since 2005, all with different companies.

They have combined led to two matches, one of whom I really wasn’t excited about going on a date with and the other of whom you couldn’t pay me to go on a date with.

This one was a real disappointment, as I had actually learned what felt like very valuable conversation tips for these events from an organization I am a part of.

I know a couple of other great guys who never had any luck speed dating, but I do know of some relationships, even marriages, that happened after the people met through speed dating.

I’m curious what are people’s thoughts here.

Growing Up With Religious Parents

I have a laundry list of ways - some relatively minor, some gargantuan - that the early years of my life were harmed by my parents’ desire to appease their imaginary friends in the sky.

While I should let go of the resentment for my own sake, I do feel proud of setting a boundary nowadays of refusing to take part in anything religious until they can provide one iota of proof that any God exists.

I am curious who here can relate. Does being atheist give you peace of mind after negative childhood experiences? And, if you’re being honest, is that at least partly due to spite LOL?

Importing Data Into An Existing Table In MySQL Workbench

I have a Macbook and, per my new boss' request, just created a new database in MySQL.

I'm supposed to import a file that I have on my desktop, but neither using the Data Import screen nor using the Load Data command is working. The former leads to my being told the file doesn't exists, regardless of what filepath I try, and the latter leads to an unspecified error for which I'm ordered to check the "manual".
