Should we get the infamous Carol Danvers/Rogue moment in the MCU and would you wanna see that lead to a possible adaptation of Avengers vs. X-Men?

So here was my initial idea: Rogue could be a villain of a potential third Captain Marvel film or perhaps in a Civil War-style loose adaptation of Avengers vs. X-Men where she accidentally drains Carol’s powers (and parts of her psyche) from her, but this would not put Carol in a coma. She’d be weak but fueled by anger over what Rogue did to her.

Horrified by what’s happened to her, Rogue goes to the X-Men for help and they take her in (reluctantly in the case of certain members) followed by Carol and the other Avengers confronting Prof. X and the others over Rogue’s actions. Carol’s angry but she and other members want this issue addressed and want Rogue to come with them. The X-Men refuse, one thing leads to another and they’re all at each other’s throats. They find out that Mystique or another villain/villains were manipulating them and both teams put their differences aside to defeat this threat, leading to some form of reconciliation.

Obviously there’s the issue of Carol being sidelined and de-powered which could be controversial if handled poorly, though it could provide internal and external conflict for Rogue. But it’s possible that Rogue will be established as an X-Man and either has her powers already or had a less traumatic incident with Carol that led to these powers and the two have a mutual understanding. And the whole Avengers vs. X-Men issue might already be covered in Avengers: Doomsday so they might not wanna go through that whole conflict again.

Would the Eternals theoretically be able to carry their own animated series?

It’s hard to say how much attention the Eternals will get going forward outside of the comics because of their MCU film being unsuccessful. While I personally didn’t love the movie in spite of some highlights (though everyone’s entitled to their opinion of course), the Eternals are still interesting as characters and I wouldn’t mind seeing another go at them outside of the MCU’s canon.

An animated series could be a cool vehicle for them, though it kind of depends on the story/stories that are being told over a number of episodes/seasons or how possible it might be to make those kinds of stories work.

Theoretically, it could probably incorporate the vibrant colors and designs from Jack Kirby’s original run, the initial memory loss narrative device from Neil Gaiman’s run, and the complex existential aspects of Kieron Gillen’s run to make for something that’s rather unique.

But what do you guys think? Could an Eternals animated series work in the right hands in your opinions or not quite?

Fun fact: Samara Weaving—who’s gonna be the MCU’s Emma Frost—auditioned for Lois Lane before Rachel Brosnahan got the role.

Samara was one of the first main contenders for the role alongside Rachel, Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor. She’s definitely got the sarcastic humor and presence for Lois and previously worked with David Corenswet on the Netflix series Hollywood but things absolutely worked out for the best. Rachel’s perfect as Lois and Samara will no doubt be perfect as Emma when she makes her awaited MCU debut.

Also hoping that Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor get DCU or MCU roles at some point.

If more comics get direct film adaptations like Supergirl, should the comics that are being adapted be much shorter in length or not necessarily?

What I mean is that the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic is an 8-issue miniseries and the plot specifically takes place over a period of several months, and I can see how adapting it as, say, a TV miniseries could allow for more time to flesh the story out further.

The Supergirl movie that it’s adapted from though takes place over the course of 3 days, and while the film that we got wasn’t terrible (IMO at least) it definitely could have been better in some ways had there been more time to flesh out the story/characters. That’s not to say that it’s impossible to adapt that story as a film (with the right tweaks of course) but it leads to the question of whether a specific comic miniseries that runs longer than 4 or 5 issues (and spans a longer amount of time) is better suited to a series instead of a film depending on how they’re adapted exactly.

And not every adaptation has to necessarily be 1:1 with the source material; the adaptations should also be used to draw more people to the comics themselves and see what those adaptations drew from as well as what did or didn’t get adapted specifically.

But what are everyone else’s thoughts on this?

After the Fox deal was completed, MCU might have benefited from using X-Men-adjacent characters that Fox never touched in preparation for the X-Men (if they were allowed to).

**Just as a disclosure, please don’t include spoilers for a certain character in** ***Spider-Man: Brand New Day*** **since I haven’t seen it yet. Like I’m 98% certain who it is anyway but would rather it not be discussed.**

The MCU has mainly been using actors from the Fox films for playing prominent X-Men characters rather than recasting them. Technically this makes sense as part of the Multiverse Saga and in anticipation of *Doomsday* and *Secret Wars*, but it’s not unreasonable to think that fans and the public have been wanting to see the MCU already have cast new actors in the roles by this point (not that bringing back certain actors isn’t fun and cool, but you know what I mean).

Which begs the question as to if the MCU didn’t go down the multiverse route (or regardless if they did), why wouldn’t they have been able to recast those characters already? The rumors that would make some legitimate sense is that Marvel had to wait a certain amount of time before being able to use familiar characters, similar to how they had to wait several years to use characters like Daredevil, The Punisher, Jessica Jones, etc. in the main MCU after their Netflix shows were canned.

But if this *is* legit, would that mean that characters or elements from X-Men lore that the Fox films **didn’t** use would also be off-limits for a time or could they actually be used? Like in *The Falcon and Winter Soldier,* Madripoor (which never showed up in the Fox films) was used as a major location in the plot without any issues.

And theoretically speaking, that could mean that other characters that Fox never touched could have been useable like the Starjammers and the Shi’ar. Both of them could have been used in a *Captain Marvel* sequel where Carol’s arrested by the Shi’ar, meets the Starjammers in prison, and they plan an escape while taking on and deposing D’Ken for example and allowing Lilandra to take over. Using these characters could have been a unique way to plant seeds for when the X-Men were eventually recast and reintroduced so that there’d be established connections between them (Corsair being Cyclops’s dad, Charles and Lilandra’s romance, etc.).

But that’s only if those parts of the IP were available of course. Any thoughts on this?

Anyone else think that Jake Gyllenhaal would be a good Sgt. Rock?

Saw his name thrown out for the role on another post and honestly think that he’d be a great fit. He’s obviously a phenomenal actor in general and there’s no shortage of roles that he’d be great for. But he’s got the right look, charisma and grit for Rock as well as previous war movie experience thanks to Jarhead. And he’s a big enough name for the possible film to draw in audiences who would be otherwise unfamiliar with the character.

For the upcoming G.I. Joe reboot, would you rather see Mackenyu (Roronoa Zoro on Netflix’s One Piece adaptation) possibly play Snake Eyes or Storm Shadow?

He’s already got the martial arts and sword fighting experience required for either role and can handle large action set pieces effortlessly (as shown by this incredible fight scene from One Piece season 2).

Any thoughts?

If Cody thought that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was bad (and it very much is, in spite of its bright spots), then imagine what his thoughts on THIS movie would be.

He’ll hopefully do videos on both Wonder Woman films, but Wonder Woman 1984 is an absolute goldmine of atrocity and seeing him tear it apart would be glorious to watch.

Just clarifying, but aside from the Lanterns cast/crew showing up do we know if there’s gonna be any announcements from SDCC tomorrow regarding the DCU?

Not sure if they could possibly announce the cast for the Mister Miracle animated series or announce other projects (if James Gunn or Peter Safran are there in some capacity) but just wanted to make sure if there’s anything that we could possibly expect by tomorrow or this week.

With Jimmy Tatro set to be the DCU’s Gorilla Grodd, who do we think his fiancée—the always amazing Zoey Deutch—could play if she were also to join the DCU?

And this isn’t meant to come off as an “Oh now that so-and-so has joined this franchise, that means that their friend/partner/frequent co-star etc. has to join this franchise also” kind of post. It would be cool to see Zoey join Jimmy of course but she’s insanely talented in her own right and could lend her versatile acting chops to a number of characters. Zatanna could possibly be in her wheelhouse for example.

One Piece’s Lera Abova would be a perfect Baroness for the new G.I. Joe film.

She’s got the right look and a fitting accent for the role, as well as the seductive and cunning nature that The Baroness is known for having. Obviously it would come down to whether Lera can juggle her One Piece schedule with the shooting schedule for this upcoming film, but if so then she would be a standout as our favorite femme fatale alongside the other iconic members of Cobra.

If Supergirl (hopefully) gets more solo films in the DCU going forward, what would you guys wanna see from them?

It’s unfortunate that Supergirl hasn’t been a huge hit but here’s hoping that this doesn’t mean that Kara shouldn’t lead more films of her own. She’s a great character and there’s definitely some cool directions to take her character in.

Since it seems like she’ll probably be on Earth for a while, then it could be cool to see her interact with other Earth-bound heroes and villains. Wouldn’t mind seeing a team-up film with her and Batgirl similar to the BTAS episode “Girls Night Out” where they could take on Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Livewire or perhaps some different villains while Batman and Superman are occupied.

Besides Earth though, she could lend herself to more cosmic stories also. Maybe she could lead a Legion of Super-Heroes film in a way that introduces those characters to a larger audience. It could be interesting to see her interactions with Brainiac 5 after her experience with the main Brainiac in MoT in particular.

Any thoughts on Simu Liu as Kakashi Hatake for the live-action Naruto movie?

He’s already worked with director Destin Daniel Cretton on the first Shang-Chi film and not only has martial arts experience but can be guarded and aloof but also charismatic and caring in a way that could work for Kakashi. And getting a big name like him aboard this adaptation could get more eyes on it for those unfamiliar with the IP.

Any thoughts on this? Or is there a different Naruto role that he’d fit better?

Which heroes would Matt Smith be a good fit for in the DCU? Included some possible picks below but curious as to what everyone else thinks.

John Constantine is one character that he could probably be a lot of fun as, also think that he’d bring a lot to other characters like Will Magnus (unless they go for someone that moreso physically resembles the animated version from Creature Commandos), Shade the Changing Man, Jack Ryder/The Creeper or Red Tornado (among others).

Any thoughts on these picks? And what other heroes could you see Smith working as?

[Discussion] Not sure how likely it is but Gerard Way’s unmade comic Batman: Kingdom of the Mad could potentially make for an awesome animated movie or miniseries under Elseworlds.

I recently found out about how Gerard Way had this comic set up at Vertigo back in 2008-ish before it was put on hold because of Way’s commitments with My Chemical Romance. The ideas for this series and in particular the initial art (also drawn by Way) are fascinating, and it sucks that it didn’t come together.

But that being said, here’s hoping that there’s a possibility of Way and DC revisiting the concept and reworking it into an Elseworlds project. Depending on how further fleshed out it is and executed, it could work as a movie or a miniseries with the same art style as Way’s drawings. Or perhaps in a stop-motion style and helmed by The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline director Henry Selick.

Obviously there’s many other characters who are more deserving of their own projects at the moment but it would be cool to see this possibly come together at some point in the nearer future.
