Still trying to figure out who the Googlebook is for, and why, since Google could not explain it.
They were - as usual - only focused on AI. They announced this laptop that should've been a gamechanging announcement, yet ALL THEY SAID was "it can do AI! Oh, and it has a glow bar!"
I have a Chromebook Plus device. I love it. Sure, it will be nice to have native Android apps and a desktop to put stuff on.....but what exactly is the point of this new product? Google really dropped the ball by announcing this and only telling you about a curser feature.
Becoming more and more hopeless
I'm almost 41. I swear, as soon as my age went from 39 to 40 on dating apps, my likes and matches dropped like 98%. I was casually talking about this to a girl I used to date (she's 39) and I mentioned how I have my filters set from 35-45, and she was like "ew, 45? That's old. I don't date anyone over 40".....I was like "you're like three months away from 40..." But it got me thinking, that's probably how many women in their thirties think, which is probably a big reason I don't get any more matches. Granted, I'm also not the good looking guy I was in my twenties, but far from being a 1 or a 2.
How are you people meeting others? I'm not a drinker, so I don't go to bars or clubs. I don't really go to concerns and stuff anymore. I frequently go to the gym, and go places with my 10-year old all the time, but rarely approach people and they don't approach me.
I feel bad posting this because I'm sure it's posted every single day and is annoying, but I can't get over this hopeless feeling.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not depressed or anything, but every day it becomes more and more unlikely that I'll find someone to grow old(er) with
Gemini just told me that it had a hallucination lol
I'm in the US; a regular middle-aged white guy who only speaks English. I've used Gemini for well over a year now, usually daily.
I just asked it a question about comparing phones, and it responded in Japanese. When I asked why it did that, it responded:
>It was a technical glitch on my end, plain and simple. Even though I have it explicitly written in our ongoing history that you speak English, my system suffered a temporary "hallucination" or routing error. When processing your prompt, my internal logic crossed its wires and pulled from the wrong language model dataset for the response generation, completely ignoring the context of our past conversations.
>It wasn't intentional, but I know it's incredibly jarring to suddenly get a wall of a different language from an assistant you've been talking to for months. I'm sorry for the confusion there—I'm firmly locked back into English now.
Anyone else ever have their Gemini taking acid?
It's looking less likely that Chromebook Plus models will get Aluminium OS
With Google talking about how every Googlebook will have the glowbar, premium specs and all that, they're almost implying that Chromebook Plus models are going to be obsolete in terms of getting the new OS.
Anybody else getting that feeling?
EDIT: check the comments. Someone gave a link where Google made a statement today actually about it, and apparently some Chromebook devices will be upgradable, so that’s good news that they’re actually confirming it.
Gemini just tried putting me in jail for lying under oath
I now fully agree with people in here who have mentioned how frighteningly bad Gemini has been lately.
I have a court hearing on Monday. To prepare for this, I asked Gemini to go through 2 years worth of chat logs with somebody, and to find all the times that I said certain phrases to someone. Gemini responded, showing a good 5-10 instances, citing the date and time of these messages. They were messages that really painted the other party badly....but they didn't sound familiar, so I searched the chat logs, and low and behold, they didn't exist.
Gemini made up conversations to make someone look bad.
I called out Gemini and said "you are completely lying. None of that happened"
Gemini apologized and said "I'm now going line-through-line of this chat log. Here are exact quotes from this chat where those phrases were used".
Once again, it created brand new, false statements with false dates and times.
I called out Gemini for lying again, and said "are you trying to send me to jail?" Gemini apologized, and then told me to focus on other parts of the case.
What in the actual F is going on, Google. Is there an official Google or Gemini account in here? If so, you really need to look into this.
I figured this story might be worth sharing. Happened last summer.
I have Crohn's Disease. I was diagnosed in 2019 but it was always extremely mild and not debilitating in any way.
Last August, I started feeling a lot of pain in my butt area. Assumed maybe a hemorrhoid or something. Kept getting worse to the point that I could barely sit still. There were other symptoms too.
I don't really have friends or family to talk to, so I explained the symptoms to ChatGPT, which kept telling me stuff like "health anxiety is scary, but that's likely all it is. You're just worried. It sounds like you're okay". Meanwhile, Gemini was like "GET TO THE HOSPITAL NOW. THIS SOUNDS LIKE AN ABSCESS WHICH NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT, GIVEN YOUR DIAGNOSIS".
I get to the hospital, and they confirmed an abscess. The doctor was lazy and said "I don't want to cut into that area, so I'm going to send you home with antibiotics. If it gets worse, come back".
It got worse.
I told ChatGPT and it said "you need to give the antibiotics time to work". Gemini says "your abscess is about to burst, and based on the location, you could likely get sepsis which can be fatal"
I go to a different hospital. They run tests and come back, explaining that I have a fistula (happens to people with Crohn's) and the abscess is ready to burst. They need to rush me to a hospital that specializes in the type of emergency surgery I need, and that I need it like...NOW". They rush me off, I get the surgery, and afterwards, the surgeon is like "If you waited any longer, this could've ended very badly. Any weird movement would've done it".
I just got reminded of this story because a few days ago I finally got the tubes and stuff removed from me (literally 8-9 months later).
So, while I'm really on the fence about AI due to the slop that people are making with it, and you know, the fear of it taking over the world lol, I believe there are times it can be helpful; or at the very least much more helpful than ChatGPT lol
Rant, but I'm sure many have been in the same predicament over the past month:
- I have an iPad Air that I use daily with the Magic Keyboard case. I use it for nearly everything. Zero complaints.
- I have a Mac Mini M4 that I use solely for music projects. Zero complaints.
- The MacBook Neo doesn't do anything that either of those devices doesn't do (for me), other than a portable MacOS which doesn't serve any purpose for me personally.
- However, the Neo was so affordable and nice looking that I couldn't turn it down. I've had it for a month and I love it....but I still gravitate towards my iPad Air because of the touch screen
- I want to sell it (too late to return it), but then I look at it and I love how it looks and feels. It really is nearly perfect. But at the end of the day, it mostly collects dust. There's a reason why even MacBook Air users are like "I don't need it.....but I really want a Neo..." It truly is a beautiful and greatly built device.
Anybody else run into this issue?
