Custom terrain is noisy?

I’ve been working on Sriracha’s new tank for several weeks now, and he finally moved in the other night! The issue is, everywhere he walks on the faux rocks, it makes a loud scraping sound. It’s a little annoying for me, but more importantly Sriracha hates it and tries not to move so it doesn’t make the sound.

Has anyone else experienced this? And is there anything I can do to help?

Build details:
This was my first time doing this
120 gallon tank
Pink insulation foam, shaped and siliconed in place
Painted the foam
I started to do some finishing layers of Drylok (water-based), but it was really glossy, so I did a few layers of varathane instead (also water-based). I sprinkled some desert sand into the first layer of varathane and then covered it with the rest, just to give everything some texture. With the varathane the gloss was gone, so I let it off-gas for a few weeks until the scent was completely gone.

I know if I had used grout or something hard as a base coat I would have gotten better results. But is there anything I can do now to make it better?

3 years ago I did 12 monotype teams. Should I finish the last 6?

Title. I beat the highest-tier Elite Four using monotype teams. The types I have left are:

  • Poison
  • Rock
  • Ground
  • Fighting
  • Psychic
  • Fairy

I picked up the game again this month and wondering if I should finish the series 3 years later? What type should I start with?

Stubborn shed?

I’ve had Sriracha since the start of this year. He completed one full shed, and since then he’s only been shedding in small patches occasionally. He’s less than a year old, so I feel like that’s really strange?

I feel like I’m doing everything I can in terms of husbandry— 120 gallon tank, humidity ranges from 20% (hot side) to 40% (cool). He’s got flagstone and a good mopani branch to rub up on. He’s got a water dish but he never touches water. I’ve tried still water and running water but he just hates water, and that includes bath time too. I give him soaks 1-2 times per week, and he hates it and jumps right out of the water, so it’s hard to keep him for a full 15 minute soak, but I still try. I’ve tried a plastic tub, running bathtub, running shower, running sink, closed sink. I also use a toothbrush during bath time to gently rub at the scales and hopefully soak the water in. Still, he won’t do a clean shed.

I had him for a regular vet checkup last month and I mentioned this. They basically said they weren’t concerned about it. He’s parasite-free, his behavior is great, his poop seems well-hydrated, he eats a good amount of both bugs and veggies.

Is there anything I can do to help him? Does that shed-ease stuff work for beardies / is it safe? Would it be useful at all to try some basic dawn dish soap? I’m kind of grasping at straws.

How much neck droop is normal? / iris?

Hi all! First time beardie parent so I’m doing everything I can to give Sriracha his best life. Setup & details at the end. Two questions!

This morning I woke him up a little early and noticed his neck was a little saggy. I’m not sure if I just never noticed it, or if I’m being a worrywart, or if this is something to be worried about.

I worry about his shedding—he tends to shed very slowly. I’ve had him for 6 months and he’s only completed two full sheds, and one that he’s working through currently. Weekly baths and gentle toothbrush rubbing, hasn’t helped much. He just finished shedding his head, but it came off in smaller patches all on different days, spaced out pretty far. At his age that does worry me a little bit. He had a stubborn piece of stuck shed that he finally managed to get off after a bath a few weeks ago.

He had his first regular vet checkup about a month ago and they told me he was “a little bit on the thinner side, but not terribly underweight”—so much to Sriracha’s delight, he’s gotten a couple extra bugs every day. No parasites! Basically he looks perfectly healthy. I mentioned the shedding issue and they seemed to think it was totally fine, just give him more baths and keep an eye on it. I’m waiting to see how his torso shed goes, but I’m still a little on edge about the whole thing.

Also, on a completely different note: he’s got a weird little deformity in his left iris. From what I can tell, this is just a birth defect and it does not seem to affect his vision at all. He also has slightly droopy eyelids, which I think is from dehydration—no matter what I do I can’t get this sucker to drink water! So I mist his veggies daily and raised his humidity a tiny bit (40-50%). I still offer him a water bowl at all times but he never goes near it.

Does anyone have any insight about the droop? How much is normal? Thoughts on the shedding? Thoughts on the iris? Sorry if this post is scatterbrained, I’m just figuring everything out and really trying to do my best research.

Sriracha is about 9 months old. He’s in a 120 gallon, basking temp 110-115 F. ZooMed 24” UVB (the desert one). Substrate is 50/50 play sand + topsoil. He is active and alert, takes to handling pretty well, and he has some legendary poops. Diet is either crickets or dubias (whatever I choose to get that week), always gut loaded with squash and always dusted with calcium—usually without D3, but once a week I use a multivitamin dust that contains D3. I do 10-12 bugs every morning and 10-12 every night. Sometimes I get superworms or hornworms as a treat. His salad is usually collard greens, then I’ll mix in either mustard, turnip, or dandelion greens (alternating) and a little bit of shredded squash. Every time his lights go out he buries himself in the sand to get cozy.

Love this kid with all my heart. I want to make sure everything looks healthy, that’s why I’m running it by the community.

My manager is a convicted p*dophile

I got this job about a year ago. Our general manager always seemed like a good guy, maybe a little strict, but he clearly takes this job very seriously.

A few months ago, I was talking with one of the assistant managers and they said something to the effect of this: “I need to be very careful what I say and how I say it. Have you ever googled his name?” (The dodginess, I learned, is because of company policy about coworkers’ criminal records)

So I caught the hint and looked him up. The story is, he was a high school teacher, and engaged in “relationships” with at least two students, including multiple sexual encounters outside of school. At best, these “relationships” could be called statutory, but based on the charges he pled guilty to, I suspect it was much darker than that. To be clear, this is absolutely my manager, not somebody who happens to share his name. There is a photo of him being walked out of the school in cuffs. That is my manager.

He got sentenced to 8 years in prison, but based on his timeline of how long he’s been working for this company, he must have gotten out after just 3 years. 3 years for a multiple-count pedophile.

Listen, I’m all for rehabilitation. If you did your time and work on yourself, you deserve to reintegrate and all that. But something about pedophilia feels … irreparable.

Part of the reason it disturbs me so much is that, without giving away any personal specifics, the business I work for draws in a lot of kids. Children and teens come through all day every day, and he interacts with them. I’ve never seen anything suspicious, but it always makes me wince.

Most of my coworkers know, but because of the aforementioned company policy, none of us can talk about it openly, so it’s kind of just this silent understanding that we all have.

I guess I don’t know how to proceed. This guy is a bad manager for many other reasons unrelated to his past. So I want to leave this job ASAP, even if he weren’t a convicted predator…but it certainly adds to my list of grievances.

Just a vent, I guess. If you stopped to read, I hope you’re doing well. Take care of yourself.

i feel incapable of having a job, and guilty for it.

Hey everyone. I tend to be a yapper, but I’ll try and be brief.

I graduated a year ago. My degree is in the arts, so I didn’t come out of college with many career opportunities. It took me months to find a job because I felt paralyzed by the idea of job hunting—plus the job market is insanely screwed up right now.

Eventually I did get a job at a big-name retail store. It’s fine. As far as jobs I’ve worked, it isn’t the worst. The money isn’t good, but it’s above minimum wage (barely). The work environment has been pretty rough for a number of reasons that aren’t related to this rant. But it could be so much worse.

The thing is, I spend every minute I’m there wishing I would get struck by a meteorite. I am in agony. For no real reason, I just hate working. I was doing 40 hours a week for 9 months (even though they had me on payroll as a “part-time” employee, so no benefits. again, not related.) and my mental health was just crumbling. I was regressing to the state I was in several years ago, which I worked so hard to get out of. But having this job single-handedly broke me. I asked my manager to cut my hours in half. It just was not sustainable. So now I’ve been doing that for a few weeks, and I’m really feeling the pressure from those smaller paychecks. Back when I was doing 40 hours, maybe I was miserable but at least I could pay my half of rent. Now, I’m only a little bit less miserable, and I barely make enough for my half of rent in a whole month, not including groceries and other expenses. If I don’t work, I can’t afford to live.

I feel incapable of working. I don’t think I can be a functional member of society. I don’t know what to do. I feel very alone. My partner (and FP) thinks I’m lazy—hasn’t told me in those words, but definitely implied it, and is putting a lot of pressure on me to find a new job. But job hunting was so agonizing a year ago, and all that pain got me was this job that makes me want to jump into a meat grinder. Maybe I am not meant to work, ever. Maybe I’m not meant to be a human in society. Maybe I’m not meant to exist.

And there’s a guilt/shame that comes with this feeling. My partner got a job so easily and thrives in it! Why can’t I? Everyone I went to school with moved away, never keeps in touch with me, and they all got jobs. What is wrong with me? Everyone has to work, so why should I feel like I’m any different?

I just feel so much hurt and dread all the time, and nothing ever gets better, it just keeps getting worse and worse, and everything keeps changing, and I haven’t been able to catch my breath for over a year. People tell me that’s what “adulting” is, and that everyone feels confused and stressed all the time—that doesn’t make me feel comforted at all. If life is always going to be like this, why should I bother?

I don’t know if I need advice or support or a slap in the face… Maybe just to vent.

Give player armor & toughness set from a score

I have an oak_chest_boat with a few scoreboard values. The scores are ARMOR and ARMOR_T (both dummies). I'm trying to set the player's armor and armor_toughness attributes to equal those scores.

Context: I'm making an invisibility effect that also makes your armor invisible, but you keep your armor values. So far, I get the player's armor and armor_toughness, store them in ARMOR and ARMOR_T. The player's armor items are then copied to the chest boat and removed from the player. At that point, I need to give the player the armor attributes that have been stored. Then I already have it set up so that once the invisibility wears off, the armor gets returned to the player.

So this is what I've got to try and modify the armor attribute, but I haven't been able to make it work.

execute as @a[SELECTORS] store result entity @s attributes[?????] float 1 run scoreboard players get @s ARMOR

The "minecraft:armor" attribute is 12th on the list of player attributes (ie 11 when counting from 0), so I tried attributes[11] but that doesn't work.

Is this even possible?

Replace a specific item anywhere in inventory EXCEPT mainhand?

Hi!

I'm trying to make an item that reverts back to its dormant state if you take it out of your mainhand. For simplicity's sake, here's what I'm working with:

By default, the item is carrot on a stick. When you're holding it and activate the item (r click), it turns into a diamond sword (with custom model data, not important right now). Those commands are easy. But if you change your selected slot or move the item, it needs to turn back to the carrot on a stick; basically, if the sword item is NOT in your mainhand, replace it with the carrot on a stick. I'm not sure if this is even possible without brute-forcing through every inventory slot one by one--which isn't ideal because I have a dozen different variations of the same transforming item.

TLDR If the player has a specific item (diamond sword) somewhere in their inventory other than their mainhand, it needs to be replaced with a carrot on a stick. I hope I did an okay job explaining this.

Any ideas? Much appreciated.

Maria Tallchief - worth anything?

Total novice to coin collecting. This caught my eye because I’d never seen it, but I did my research and this isn’t an inherently rare coin. I read that there are a few errors to look for, but I’m not sure where to begin. Forgive me for my cluelessness.
