Love wisconsin, don't like madison all that much

Hi, I'm originally a native floridian that lived in georgia for a few years. I moved to madison for a job offer over moving to green bay like I originally was going to because people said me being trans and gay and all the young people would make it easier for me socially. (And the employer in green bay ended up offering 2 weeks after I moved to madison but I had to turn down). The job in madison didn't end up working out but I found another job that I love, however it's kinda a dead end, stepping stone job.

As far as work i want a job where I can work in the feild like I do now. I'm considering being a game warden, or being one of those highway "champ" people, or heavy equipment operations. I'm a professional driver but im non CDL for the time being.

I really don't mind the cold, work and just general curiosity means I've traveled a good portion of the state. I'm finding it extremely difficult to make freinds here, even with living on the isthmus. Dating is rough because there is a huge polygamous scene and im not into that at all. However I might be in the wrong part of madison because I live just west of the capitol which has more of the gentrified or super collegey places where I like more down to earth, rough around the edges vibes. It's hard to really describe but I also don't like how there can be a huge SJW type environment and overly "woke" in an annoying, performative way.

As far as hobbies I'm a huge art and fashion bro that likes to draw and paint, ride my bike, go to gallery openings and theaters and check out dive bars. I'm also big into music and finding lost media.

Anyone from other cities in wisconsin want to pitch in from there experience or other states that don't want trans people dead?

Don't underestimate blank/homemade VHS tapes, you might find lost media you didn't think anyone cared about.

So the other day, I was clearing out a hoarder house where the family was giving away everything inside and there was a stack of VHS tapes in a plastic container. Inside was a lot of old recordings of festivals, school events, etc from the area from 30-50 years ago. Turns out even if the tapes don't nessacarily have monetary value historical societies, libraries, and other associations like to see the footage preserved as local broadcasts and other recordings easily get lost to time.

Book donations

Hi, I will be helping some people in the MKE area distribute books to the little free libraries. I will be at the book swap at dead bird brewing on 5/17 trading books with people but if anyone has books to donate especially kids books or Spanish books please let me know and we can meet at the event.

Small trinkets like bookmarks, small toys, etc is also appreciated

I distribute literature all across Dane county. Mainly little free libraries but also senior centers and other places. I started doing it on a small scale when I moved here but I have been ramping up my operation. (Not all pics are local, I was recently on a trip and I was giving out a lot of literature to poor schools across Kentucky and west virginia)

Basically what I do is go around, organize, fill up the boxes and recycle books that are in poor condition. I tend to shuffle around books a lot because I notice certain types of books are more popular in some neighborhoods than others. Some boxes also get lots of donations and overflow where others barley get any.

I buy up large quantities of used books wholesale, I probably spend about 2-300 dollars a month out of my own pocket to do this, but also accept donations.

I was recently in cincinatti and saw they had a program called the "queen city" book bank which distributed literature across the free libraries but also to schools and senior centers and stuff. I am looking to eventually bring a simular concept to madison but I would have to partner with an existing organization as I don't have the 3 people required to start a 501C myself.

Right now what I need most is children's books and books in Spanish those are harder to find in bulk, but I will take most books (and dvds in some circumstances, they are sent out to rural communities with poor internet access or senior homes where they prefer physical media) i pickup anywhere in Dane county, might go further if you have a lot or are around the Lodi area where my job is. You would be surprised how quickly I run out of books, there are about 400 boxes in Dane county alone.
