How do people find out how often a person was stabbed?

My friend and I watch/listen to videos while drawing.It autoplays so we just let youtube decide what we will watch next.Here and There we got some true crime stuff and we got curious. How do people find out how often a person was stabbed since they are often stabbed in the same spot over and over?

(Before we get attacked, we are not supportive murder nor do we watch True Crime on a daily basis.We are simply artists who got curious.)

I was told this may be a coral fossil. I am not sure. I found this in turkey. Please help me ID.

I know I maybe should have cleaned it before but I am afraid the water may damage the crystal or the fossil itself. Id rather first know what it is and then clean it with the correct solution.
