Hello, I've recently started oil painting and I really enjoy it. I want to buy professional Rembrandt oil paints and price isn't a huge deal for me; but everyone trying to dissuade me from buying them is making me feel bad about it.

The reason why I want to get professional oil paint is because I wanna enjoy the oil painting experience to the fullest.

Note: I've been painting digitally for years and I'm intermediate in overall fundamentals.

I'm an artist opposed to AI art. I've been wondering, what's actually fulfilling about AI art?

I understand many people who are in art adjacent communities like DnD aren't artsy kids nor they can pay for commissions so they use AI but it seems to me most AI users genuinely believe artists are an oppressive hyper privileged class and hate artists to a point it's comedic.

In my most optimistic perspective towards AI, maybe I can understand it's the machine making an artwork. But what gain does it have for the users?

Hi, I'm an Iranian artist and I've been trying really hard to get commissions in $ because our currency isn't worth anything. I haven't been doing bad, I have a popular friend who helps me with getting attention on my commission posts. I've made 975$ since war and I've made another 600$ a year or two years ago.

But when trying to stand on my own, I haven't made any progress at all. Discord servers are completely useless for getting comms, it's more of a humiliation ritual reaching out to potential "clients", it's impacted my mental health and my motivation for art much negatively. I feel insecure about my art, I wonder if it's overpriced then I lower the price and it still doesn't work. I even feel resentful of other artists who are able to get commissions regularly because they have a more popular artstyle (cutesy anime girls)

I also feel like art without getting paid for it has become less enjoyable. It's not at all that I don't like making art anymore, but idk what it is about getting into art business that just destroys motivation.

This is much more of a question rather than stating opinions of my own but I keep seeing people who express fear or express great discomfort with having their art styles copied and the reason is usually that they worked hard on it and poured themselves into it. Personally? I used to find this a problem but as I get older I take more joy in getting "copied", another artist finding inspiration in my work is the greatest honor and I personally believe I need to conduct more master studies/studies and "copies" of methods and styles I find interesting to find my own.

Hence why I'm asking this question, do you think some artists' obsession with originality is killing their art?
