I’m in therapy and starting with a psychiatrist this week…
Is it weird that I’m nervous to be prescribed medication? I know I definitely need to see one with the issues I have. I just have a long history of family addiction, wether it be alcohol or drugs, (ofc I will be mentioning that when I attend the meeting), and I am just terrified of getting addicted to something due to that. Like it’s to the point I can only comfortably swallow Zyrtec (and it’s even hard to do that sometimes, which I do realize is yet ANOTHER point that I will need to make in the next session). I know I may likely be diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and ADHD, which I know at least one of those will pretty much have to be a swallowable pill. I’m just hoping there’s a possibility of there being an option to crush it or something to just quickly shove down with like applesauce or something (which I know could also be a health issue, in which I’m hoping to have dealt with when I get a PCP set up in a few months) 🫠
Idk, I don’t seem to know any others that have dealt with this. I’m also just really nervous overall, Idk. This is my first time being in any type of therapy since I was in late middle school, and that was just a counselor who worked with my school, and they diagnosed me with anxiety/social anxiety. I’ve only been to a few sessions with my therapist so far, and it’s all new to me. Honestly, my therapist bringing up the idea of me possibly being Bipolar was just so surprising to me. I mean it makes sense, especially with certain family members also being bipolar, but still.
