When you hear about Europeans or Asians or anyone who wants to move to the US (I know surprisingly there are a lot of people who still want to move there according to Reddit this is impossible), mostly want to go to California, New York or Florida.

But the US is SO MUCH MORE. In fact the best places to live in the US in my opinion are not even these ones (and I’m not even american), but for example Washington (the state) and Oregon, why aren’t these more popular amongst expats of different countries who want to move to the US?

These two places are insanely beautiful, they have one of the best nature and landscapes of the US (and some of the world), lifestyle there is much slower and centered around families (similar to Europe), cost of living is lower (compared to New York, California etc) and in general they’re just very beautiful and amazing places to live in. And I can say the same about Vermont or North Carolina.

These places are so much better than the popular ones, why do people keep wanting to move to New York, California and Florida?

Vivo no estrangeiro e já fiz renovações em casas tanto aqui no estrangeiro como em Portugal (contratei profissionais) e a diferença na forma como os portugueses profissionais lidam com as renovações é assustadora.

Obras sempre atrasadas, deixam tudo por metade ou muitas coisas por fazer, a obra nunca fica na qualidade que tu gostas, desaparecem por dias ou semanas sem dizer nada, mas o que se está a passar em Portugal?

As empresas de renovação no estrangeiro também não são rosas e flores mas ao menos fazem um esforço grande para acabar a obra a tempo e nunca desaparecem do nada. Mesmo que haja alguma coisa que não fique a qualidade desejada tu podes pedir e eles refazem rapidamente, ate pq aqui é muito importante ter se uma grande reputação para que os teus clientes possam te referir aos seus amigos e colegas de trabalho e assim tens clientes de forma quase infinita pq renovações e um trabalho que nunca se esgota.

Mas em Portugal não, os “profissionais” e principalmente os empresários dessas pequenas firmas parecem estar se completamente a cagar, e esta atitude não faz sentido nenhum pq se fossem sérios e acabassem as coisas a tempo e estivessem sempre disponíveis a quantidade de clientes que teriam seria tão grande que a empresa facilmente conseguiria crescer muito mais rápido e os seus empresários iriam tornar se facilmente milionários ou gente com muita guita. Parece que não pensam no potencial que eles tem.

Recentemente acabei com a minha subscrição da Netflix pq a vasta maioria das coisas lá é só lixo. Tens 1 ou 2 séries realmente boas a cada ano mas mesmo assim não tão boas para que justifique o preço que se paga pela subscrição.

Ao mesmo tempo há uns meses subscrevi na Apple TV e sinceramente estou absolutamente chocado como é que a Apple TV já não superou a Netflix em termos de popularidade.

Quase todas as séries que a Apple TV lança são autênticos masterpieces ou pelo menos são muito boas. Silo, Dark Matter, Severance, Widows Bay, Horses, Pluri e muito mais. E aparentemente todas estas séries são feitas com muito menos dinheiro e budget do que as séries da Netflix e são 10x melhores do que quase qualquer coisa que a bostaflix oferece!

Alguém me explica pq as pessoas continuam a insistir na bostaflix quando a concorrência é muito melhor?

I remember a few months ago people complaining that Imu was a failed villain with no personality and just insanely strong like Kaido was and they’re rather prefer Blackbeard as the final villain, but in the last couple of chapters and the more we learn about him, the more desirable he is becoming as a villain.

In the last chapter Imu recognised that him and the World Government were idiots for not taking Roger / Xebec threat seriously enough and not acting sooner the moment they found out about Luffy, showing that despite being insanely strong he’s aware of how stupid and dumb the WG has acted in the last few decades / years and the reason why he came in person because now is not the time to joke anymore.

We also see that Imu likes to observe everything around him and he doesn’t attack instantly without understanding the situation first as we saw with Gabban giving a speech to Luffy (he just stared there listening and observing)

Imu also helped Sommers and Killighnam got stronger and apparently he cares about them. Imu doesn’t aura farm like Madara or Aizen or Yhwach but he’s still strong enough to make everyone in the verse look like trash and this “weaknesses” that he shows is actually better because he’s not an unstoppable deus exmachina villan who knows everything and everyone and has everything planned, which makes him much more human than Madara or Aizen.

I’m liking the direction that Oda is going with Imu. He’s turning out to be a great villan. What do you think?

I’m a European originally from Southern Europe, currently living in Northern Europe. As an EU citizen, I can live legally in Portugal, and my international company can sponsor my visa for California.

I’m trying to decide between these two regions. How do they compare in terms of lifestyle? Which offers better food? Where would I be healthier? Which has more outdoor activities? Where would I feel happier overall?

I speak fluent Portuguese and English so language barrier is not a problem too.

Desde 2022 que não perco quase nenhuma novidade ou notícia sobre a IA e agora por causa da febre tanto a minha empresa como em qualquer empresa de software somos praticamente obrigados a usar IA todos os dias e inclusive a fazer reports de como está a aumentar a nossa produtividade.

A verdade é que depois de anos eu estou farto, fartíssimo até aos cabelos. Não consigo mais ver IA a minha frente. E depois os constants lays offs e como a inteligência artificial vai tirar o emprego a toda a gente (embora isso não seja verdade) só me faz ter ainda mais ódio. Não só eu mas todos os meus colegas estamos com “AI fatigue”.

Tenho um amigo que é contractor e não liga nenhuma a isto. Ele usa o Claude code para automizar algumas tarefas básicas mas de resto não acompanha nem usa mais nenhuma ferramenta e está se completamente a cagar. Como trabalha por conta própria não é obrigado pelas empresas a usar isso e trabalha a partir de qualquer lugar do mundo quando quiser visto que não é um colaborador oficial.

Cada vez mais penso em abandonar a carreira corporativa e também tornar me contractor e cagar em tudo que seja notícias de inteligência artificial. O que vocês acham? Também estão com um grande AI fatigue nas vossas endossas?

Parece que muitas pessoas não estão famíliarizadas com o que se está a passar na União Europeia nas últimas semanas. Eis uma lista:

- A UE aprovou uma nova lei nos últimos dias que vai obrigar todos os carros novos a terem um tracker / câmera a gravar tudo o que acontece dentro do teu próprio carro a toda a hora ou todas as vezes que conduzires, quer tu queiras ter a câmera ligada ou não.

- A UE aprovou a primeira fase do Chat Control Que vai permitir as autoridades ler todas as mensagens privadas em quase todas as plataformas e redes sociais das pessoas com o objetivo de “vigiar” e prevenir possíveis crimes

- A UE aprovou mais uma série de medidas e mais regulamentos que vão tornar mais difícil para empresas investirem em Inteligência Artificial com regras e mais regras por cima (ou seja os EUA e a China vão dar lhes um baile total). O Chanceler da Alemanha quer retirar direitos aos alemães e fazer com que tirar um dia de trabalho por se estar doente se torne mais difícil e eles querem replicar isso a nível europeu também.

Mas está tudo louco? A UE está a dirigir se a passos largos para se tornar uma ditadura, depois de passar anos (décadas) a acusar a Rússia, a China e países muçulmanos de serem ditaduras onde as pessoas não tinham liberdade nenhuma e eram vigiadas a todo a hora e momento. A ironia.

I'm an EU citizen living in one of the EU countries. I've decided I don't want to live here anymore because of numerous issues, a major housing crisis, one of the worst in the entire EU, a poor healthcare system and nonexistent public transportation. I live in an EU country with almost no benefits of being a truly EU country.

I've always dreamed of moving to a Scandinavian or Nordic country because everything there works perfectly, it's almost the peak of human civilization. The problem is that I've visited these countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland) so much that my rose-tinted glasses are off after seeing the reality.

Yes, they have an amazing healthcare system, amazing public transportation, and a very organized society, but people are very cold and introverted. The lack of human social interaction takes my will to live. The winters there are also very harsh, even worse than in the country I live in now, which already has very little sun and a lot of rain. Even if you speak the language fluently, they will never accept you as part of their own (I have friends living there who learned the language) because you didn't grow up with them. My friends lives there are very good in terms of peace of mind and stunning nature, but they're very isolated and lonely. Nordic societies are very lonely.

Then you have the US, which has the exact opposite problem. I work for an American company with offices in California and New York, and I have the chance to transfer there and get sponsored by them. I've visited the US multiple times (I go frequently for business) and, for me, the best part of the US is the people. Americans are incredibly friendly, and it's very easy to make true friendships with them. Where I live, people are friendly but only on a surface level, once you try to go out with them or deepen the relationship they disappear. But I had the exact opposite experience in the US, to this day I talk daily with Americans I just met for a few days there. They've visited me where I live too.

California has the best weather in the world (which is a huge plus for me because sunshine really makes a difference), and it has the highest salaries in the world but… that’s it. Everything else is problematic: gun violence, people just live to work (which I hate), healthcare costs are absolutely insane, car dependent culture, and food is not as healthy.

So I'm very conflicted about where I want to live or spend the rest of my life. I've also considered Switzerland, but I hate their conservative mentality. I had negative experiences with people while visiting there, and life there just becomes very boring. Southern Europe has amazing climate, good food, and amazing people, but the work culture is one of the worst I've ever seen (I've lived there), and salaries are shockingly low compared to Northern Europe or the US, you barely survive on a daily basis.

So I have no idea where to live.
