To begin, the post contains a misleading title as the article states that the Embassy of Pakistan had no knowledge this project, and that the ambassador was also mislead. In summary it seemed to be a misunderstanding and Japan itself has 100 mosques.

However, let's move on to the comments, the juicy bit here.

One commenter says: Many Muslim countries prevent the building of other places of worship, or actively shut them down. They should expect the same treatment. 1.600 upvotes

Another corrects him by saying

Did you read the article? This has nothing to do with them being Muslim or not. Someone built a building and the building didn’t have the necessary permits. (100 upvotes)

Another replies: OP was informing us of the juxtaposition of the different laws abided between the two countries. Please be patient 🙏 (600 upvotes)

Lastly, there was one comment correctly stating the situation

"there's no actual story here. Pakistan officially disavows this particular mosque building because it was built without proper permission from Japanese authorities. Building a mosque is perfectly legal in Japan, there are more than a hundred mosques in the country already. this one was built without the approval of the local planning authorities because it was built in a UCA, an urbanization control area, where construction of any type of building is generally prohibited.

However majority of the commenters seemed to have found their excuse to engage in some of the worst xenophobic rhetoric I've seen in Reddit.
