In all seriousness I have no clue why he bit me. He has never bitten me hard before and it was only to see if I was food but never hard. I’m not sure what I did wrong and if anyone has any tips or suggestions on what I did wrong please let me know. Gus had been sitting by the glass watching me for the past hour so I went to let him out and he lunged out and latched onto my finger and only gave one quick hard bite. After I put him back in his enclosure he acted like nothing happened and chilled on his rock and was acting super normal. Was this a defensive bite or a food bite? He hasn’t been defensive since I first got him. I worry I scared him but I always get down to his level before handling. I’m not an expert but I know there are experts on here that can help thank you.
I try not to encourage biting from him but I can’t help but find it funny when he smells steak, eggs, or brats. He really is the sweetest and I love Gus as if he were a really small scaly dog.
Right now I have my Ackie Gus but in the far future when I’m making more with my job and have more space in my home I want to get one more monitor lizard but idk what I would get. Obviously I have a lot of time to think and plan but I was wondering what any of yall would recommend. I’d prefer a dryer climate monitor that can handle California Heat and possibly have a huge outdoor enclosure that is properly secured obv along with a gorgeous indoor environment during cold months. I struggle to keep up with humid loving reptiles since I work so much I can only spray once a day and have had issues with misters and foggers. Also not a Savannah even though I love them but my dubia colony barely survives my Ackie.
I’ve searched a lot of places and cannot find these oil filters. Everything I order is the wrong size so I was wondering if anyone knew a website I could find one or if I’m an idiot. In the picture the correct one is on top and the wrong one I ordered is on the bottom.
I’ve always loved Mosasaurs when I was a kid and it has influenced my hobbies like keeping reptiles. I now have a monitor Lizard named Gus that I keep a mosasaur display next to.
Usually when I check up on the dairy cows I let Gus have one or two but this time he just wanted to look at like his own collection.
I swear Gus chooses the hardest path to get up just to see if he can😭
I was practicing target training with Sonora and she grabbed the mouse and when I went to move the target she coiled my fingers super tight and wouldn’t let go🤣
Taken on my iPhone and editing by my partner.
Im no photographer but I thought these photos were cute. Sonoras black and yellow perfectly match’s the aesthetic of The Kraken black spiced rum.
Sonora my female desert king decided a decorative coconut was a better hide than her 4 others.
I’m sunburnt and dehydrated so I grabbed a glass of water just for Mojave my desert king to start drinking straight out of it. He has a water bowl btw so I have no clue why he started drinking out of my glass🤣
I just got these two desert kings today both male and female and I am in love! They are gorgeous and kinda resemble a black headed python with their jet black heads. If anyone has name suggestions lmk I was thinking of Mojave and Sonora so far.
I was laughing so hard cause of the way Gus dragged it away🤣
It’s hard to tell cause my camera sucks he has gotten very PLUMP and I worry I’m overfeeding him. I feed him 3-4 times a week and give him as many dubias as he can eat in 15 minutes usually with a quail egg treat every other week.
This was kind of a minimal effort build I’m not going to lie but it has enough coverage and a hide in the back to keep her happy till she’s bigger. I also added springtails and some mixed isopods I snatched from my other enclosures.
Gus got a lite shower and scrub since he decided to roll in his poop while I was at work 🤦🏻♂️ he then fell asleep on my lap 😌
I decided to name him Marshmallow or Marsh for short. I can’t wait to see him grow big and healthy.
