4K movie rentals stop after 5 minutes

I have an HR44-500 with a Gemini 4K box. I tried to rent our first 4K movie since getting the Gemini about six months ago. The movie plays for five minutes, then stops. The screen goes black. I can't rewind or fast forward. I thought it might be the movie, so I rented a second one later in the day. Same problem.

I reset both the HR44 and the Gemini and confirmed our internet connection can handle 4K.
We did have Movies Anywhere enabled, but I've just disabled that.

Customer service tried basic troubleshooting but couldn't help me. Any ideas?

Thanks.

DirecTV 4K rental stops after 5 mins. Possible MA issue?

I have Directv satellite with an HR44-500 and a Gemini 4K box. I just tried to rent our first 4K movie since getting the Gemini about six months ago. The movie plays for five minutes, then stops. The screen goes black. I can’t rewind or fast forward.

I reset both the HR44 and the Gemini and confirmed our internet connection can handle 4K. We did have Movies Anywhere enabled, but I’ve just disabled that.

Customer service tried basic troubleshooting but couldn’t help me. Any ideas? The only wild card I see here is Movies Anywhere. Has this been known to cause problems?

Thanks.

MWARA transmission question

I was listening to either New York radio or Gander radio yesterday and had a question about something I heard. While talking to the pilot, the air traffic controller asked if India 5 and kilo 1 were on board. What might this mean?

(Is there another subreddit that would be a better fit for aviation listening questions?)

Thanks.

Changes to promo offers?

I know there are numerous posts here about promo/discount rates, but I wanted to ask about changes that might be coming. In the latest investor call, the CEO said the company would be reducing the number and value of discounted subscriptions. Is this a standard declaration from the company, or is it likely they will actually stop discounting? Have they made these statements before?

I’m currently paying just over $5/month (including taxes and fees) for Platinum. I’m not looking forward to paying the full $30+/month when the promo expires in October.

Thanks.

Radios in hotel rooms

I’m really curious about the idea of radios in hotel rooms as a selling point. I’ve seen ads from the 1920s and 30s where an individually controlled receiver is marketed in the same way as HBO and cable TV were in the 1970s and 80s.

But other than the occasional vintage ad or a few news stories about the Statler hotels, I haven’t been able to find much information on this concept, such as the technical infrastructure required, details of the listening experience, programs available, etc.

Can anyone point me to some resources for further research?

Thanks.

Worldwide News Network

I’m wondering where I can find top of the hour news updates from WWNN. My local news station uses ABC News. The SiriusXM channels I listen to switched from CBS News to ABC News after the former shut down. I can’t find an affiliate list on WWNN’s website, nor can I find their updates in Apple Podcasts.

Does anyone have a list of stations that use WWNN, other than WABC?

Thanks.

Audacy channels availability

Since the first set of channels to be added will be available in "most cars," do we know where they’ll be placed? My car radio only goes up to 234, and I don’t think there are enough empty slots. Maybe they’ll end up in the 300s, which are available on some car radios? Or maybe other channels will be bumped out of the 100s to make room?

A separate technical question--how high up could these old XM car radios go? Could they receive channels beyond 234 if SXM adds them? There doesn't seem to be anything on channels 235-300.

Thanks.

Netflix no longer supported on Gemini?

I’m a satellite customer with an HR44-500 and a C71KW-400. I also have a Netflix Premium subscription.

Tonight I noticed that none of the Netflix 4K content is playing in 4K through the Gemini. When I went to the Google Play store, I saw a notice that the app is no longer available on the Gemini.

I tested the internet connection to make sure it’s fast enough for 4K. I also confirmed that Netflix was streaming in 4K in the app on my Fire TV itself (not on the Gemini).

Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks.

New to MARS listening. Any tips?

I'm interested in learning more about MARS listening. So far all I've picked up are a brief transmission a few weeks ago, with the speaker telling someone to let them know if they needed more help, and the tail end of a weather forecast a few hours ago. Both were on 13927 kHz.

I'm in an urban area in Ohio, but I often take my radio to a nearby lake and get much better HF and SW reception there. I'm using a Tecsun PL-330 with a Tecsun AN-48X antenna. I also have an XHDATA AN-80 reel antenna that I rarely use.

Are there certain frequencies that are more active than others? Certain times of day to listen?

I realize my setup is limited, but I'm curious what I can pick up with it.

Thanks.

How long do add-on orders take?

I’m a satellite customer and have just added Starz at a discount thru the DTV website. I got the standard “we’re processing your order email,” but so far those channels aren’t showing up on my receiver or on my account on the website. I’ve refreshed and rebooted, but nothing has changed.

I can’t call customer service, because they’re not open for a few more hours.

How long does it take for these new channels to show up?

Thanks.

Bring your own headset parties?

My memory is a little fuzzy on this, but in the early days of radio, were there large gatherings in hotels and other facilities where people would bring their own headsets to listen to a radio broadcast? I thought I had read about such parties being held, for example, on New Year's Eve, where people would head to a hotel ballroom and listen to a performance from an orchestra or band from another city. There was sometimes a "bring your own device" element that I can't understand. Would there be a place to "plug in" your own headset to sit and listen?

Thanks.

Tecsun PL-330 LSB calibration issue?

I may have posted about this before, but I'm still searching for the best solution. When listening to hams on 40m and 80m LSB on my Tecsun PL-330, it seems my tuner is off by 0.06 kHz. For example, the voices on 7185 sound like aliens, but adjusting to 7185.06 makes them sound human. This 0.06 kHz offset appears to be consistent across all the ham nets I listen to.

Is there something wrong with the tuner? If so, is there a way to fix it without completing resetting the radio and losing my presets, etc.?

Thanks!

Indoor airband antenna?

I use a Bearcat BC125AT with a Diamond RH77CA antenna to listen to airband, and this combo works great outside. It’s (understandably) a little less effective indoors.

My question: is there some type of indoor airband antenna I could place near a window to improve indoor reception? I have an active loop in my window to improve SW/LW/MW reception, but I haven’t seen anything similar for airband.

Thanks!

Equalizer resetting on Echo devices

I have an Echo Show 5 and several Echo Pops. I've recently begun having problems with the equalizer settings in the Alexa app. I used to be able to adjust the treble, bass, and midrange settings once, and they would stay that way until I changed them again myself. Now it seems like they reset every time I play a new song, or even just randomly. Is there any way to make these equalizer settings permanent again?

Thanks.
