What is a good way to express gratitude to your committee?

I did it! You can call me Dr. Traditional Joke 179 🤸🏾‍♀️. I feel that it would be a good thing to give my committee members or at least my advisor some kind of gift, because they've been extraordinarily great. I think my advisor might be one of the only people I know who loves me (no unprofesh). What did you or people you know do to thank people besides sending an email? Do you have any ideas in general?

Why is she so annoyed?

At this point he's planning to go back to Russia despite what he said. She reminds him to put something in his suitcase for his niece, he tells her to do it which I guess could come across as demanding, and she gets irritated and leaves. What's going on in this scene?

What is your relationship to making conversation and empathy?

  1. Do you find it natural to ask others questions in conversation? For example, if someone says they joined a sports team, would you say something like, "That's cool, are you having fun?" or "Have you played this sport before?" Or would you not ask those kinds of things?
  2. To what extent would you say you feel empathy?

I ask because I have a family member I believe is autistic, who almost never asks any questions, and I'm trying to make more sense of some of the conversations we've had and where she's coming from.

If asked to name a woman from your country, who would be a popular answer?

Of course this will vary, but my answer is Michelle Obama.

In defense of their confusion

I've seen people say it was a little dense of his parents to take so long to fill in the blanks. I think that given that they're both intelligent people who can infer things, they likely picked up immediately on what was being implied and then moved past that idea because "just casually hooking up" is so far from the Shane they're familiar with. I can picture that their thought process was, "Just- OH, well not that. So what else would it be...?"

Shane hasn't told them anything. Shane is very buttoned up. Shane's sexuality was nonexistent in their eyes until they learned he had a recent girlfriend, who he seemed very prim and proper with. They're not the type of family who talk about sex, clearly by Shane's reaction to the word "lovers", a word with a "we have sex" connotation. Of course they're not going to go from that to thinking Shane's been doin it and doin it and doin it well.

This day was definitely a paradigm shift for Shane and his family, a day where his parents were allowed to understand who he is in a fuller way, not just that he's gay and has a boyfriend, but also that he is going forth to live a whole life as someone's partner in an adult relationship. That's also why "please text" is important, not just as an innuendo, but as a boundary. He's not their little boy anymore, and that's why it's understandable that it took them a moment to catch up.

realized I didn't have lettuce for my salad, ended up proteinmaxxxing for fit girl summer 🏃🏾‍♀️

I ended up doing Just Egg instead, so it has 4 kinds of protein: Just Egg with Daiya cheese, Impossible steak bites, chickpeas, and sunflower seeds. Other ingredients: avocado, cherry tomatoes, red onion, garlic and onion seasoning, creole seasoning, & sesame oil.

Which country's citizens could you most easily mistake for being from your country?

In the US we can't always tell that someone is Canadian until they say specific words like "out" or "about". What is the giveaway for you?

What was your wrongest prediction or misintepretation while watching the show?

I kind of thought Scott >!might actually be a killer lmao. I overthought the "foreshadowing" in the 3rd ep, and I know that would have been a tone/genre switch up but crazier things have happened on shows. It wasn't until Kip came home with him and it cut to the sex scene where I was like, "Oh, okay thank God, he's actually super into him and not going to kill him." 😅!<

Kip's '90s ass grad school application process

Schools have been accepting people online for 25 years lmao. I know they tied little moments to it, like how that's where Kip saw the socks, or his dad giving him the envelope, but it still seems kinda silly.

"Do you want to go inside?" "No"

I just understood this part. I thought Shane was generally suggesting going inside. This time I realized he was asking this to assure him that they could go inside if Ilya was still scared of the loon. By saying no, Ilya is showing that he trusts Shane and feels safe in his arms.

I thought it was scary and sounded like a wolf too when I first watched it ngl. I understood from context that Shane was supposed to be right, but in a way where I still kinda thought a wolf was there. Ilya could theoretically have decided he was going to be on alert for dangers to jump out of the dark, but instead he knows he can relax with Shane for once.

Also took him zero time to realize that Shane's boring activity of sitting and looking at the fire is what he wants.
