Aragorn killing the Mouth of Sauron

This is from the Extended edition of the Return of the King, and if you're here I assume you've watched that. Aragorn straight up murders an ambassador because he doesn't like his jive. This bothers me enormously - Sauron is certainly not negotiating in good faith, but Aragorn should still follow the rules. Because that's what Aragorn does.

Is anyone else bothered by this? It's not the worst sin of the movies, but it irks me.

Sunny went to the vet

He had to go in for a 1 month post surgery check up and turns out he got ear infection. Got treatment for it, including a rinse. He wasn't happy about it... Would I leave the house or write my will?

Timeline (Riddke)

Apparently a man named Riddke came up with a timeline of Conan's stories numbered for the Aquilonian Age, but I can't find it anywhere online. Does anyone here know where I can find it?

Tomorrow Nisse will be put down

He has graciously let me use the keyboard.

Tomorrow my little boy will go to sleep, and he will not wake up. My heart is broken and I will never forget him. Nisse has been with me for 12 years, and it's too short a time. Who will keep watch over me when I'm on the toilet? Who will comfort me when the demons plague me (major depression)? Who will wake me up at 4 AM to demand breakfast?

This is an old picture, but it's how I want to remember him. Sleeping on the balcony, not a care in the world. Farewell, my best little boy.

[Grief] Nisse (16) will be put down next week

He has a tumor in his belly and a tooth that is causing him pain. If he didn't have a tumor we would have risked a dental procedure, but with the tumor...

Nisse is the sweetest little cat. Who will keep me safe on the toilet and in the shower? Who will beg food at the table? Who will keep me company at night? He's had a long and happy life, but O how I will miss him.

Did you study the Odyssey in school?

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is due to come out in July. Did you study the Odyssey in school? We did both the Iliad and the Odyssey, although I always like the Iliad better.

Heavy water and abiogenesis

So apparently 3I Atlas has a lot more deuterium than the Solar system's comets. Now, we know that heavy water is toxic to Earth life in large quantities - it messes with all the bond angles and distances our enzymes depend on to function. Would a significant amount of heavy water be an obstacle to abiogenesis? I doubt that 3I Atlas has enough to be a problem, but theoretically?

[Request] How many House representatives would Venezuela have?

Trump has now declared Venezuela the 51st state. How many House representatives would they be entitled to? It's not entirely linear with population size, if I recall correctly.

On the evolution of the female orgasm

This was an interesting article.

https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/jez.b.22690

They speculate that the orgasm originally induced ovulation, like it does with many animals (cats, for instance). After we evolved spontaneous ovulation, the female orgasm was free to develop independently of ovulation.

We also get this gem: "surprisingly unreliably accompanies heterosexual intercourse"

Do you salute the flag or do anything else patriotic every day in school?

The Americans salute the flag each day pledge allegiance to the flag, and to me that sounds cultish. Like brainwashing.

Edit: My bad. Pledge allegiance, not salute the flag. Still sounds cultish.

I've read that it is not time-symmetric and time symmetry is needed for energy conservation to hold. (I don't imagine we can tap this as free energy, just curious).

EDIT: Answered! Thanks!

The de/dem (they/them) distinction is going extinct in Swedish and most people now use a generic "dom" when they are talking. In writing they still use "de/dem", but most people no longer have the intuition, so they use them more or less at random. What I find fascinating is that these people have no problem with exactly the same distinction in English. Why is that? Is grammar for different languages that walled off from each other?
