Starlux Downgrade Prem Econ to Econ

I just got a flight change notice email from Starlux that says we are being downgraded from prem econ to econ. I called them and they said I can only ask for a refund after taking the flights. So I pressed them to see how much I can get back and they said it's not guaranteed but we will probably get back $200. That seems a bit low to me on a flight that is 1.6k

Any advice or insights on this?

Did I get scammed?

I saw this beautiful blouse on Vinted and just had to buy it right away but I don’t know I couldn’t search up what blouse this was and I’ve never seen this style before (but I hope I’m wrong). I hope this is just an older style.

No size tag next to the Doen tag makes me suspicious but what do you guys think?

Landlord wants a new wall

Not a lot of experience in NYC laws and what “normal wear and tear” means so I want to reach out and ask you guys. Will do my own research afterwards but I would like to hear your two cents

My landlord is demanding me to pay for her marble kitchen wall replacement because my appliances stained her wall allegedly. There is a slight yellow stain that I haven’t tried hard to get it off but in case of the yellow stain staying, do you guys think it’s reasonable to be asked to pay for the entire kitchen wall and countertop replacement? Which could be 5k at the very least. The wall is still smooth when I touched it.

I’ve included a picture where you can see a faint yellow stain

Being sued for property damage

Hey everyone,

My landlord is currently suing me in small claims court for property damage. They found dark spots on our bathroom ceiling recently and claimed we are responsible due to long term neglect. They checked our bathroom at a bad time because I was out of town for weeks due to work and my roommate was working extended hours, so the bathroom tub was pretty dirty and full of hair.

We didn’t notice the dark spots ever until they brought it up. They demanded 4k from us but didn’t provide any moisture reading, mold tests like about what mold it was or a professional source. So, we reached out to a handyman and he told us the bathroom lacks ventilation because there is no user-controlled exhaust fan or window. It does have a vent but we found out that the vent was taped off. This was never something my roommate and I were informed.

We brought this up to our landlord and they argued that it was our responsibility to report moisture. And because our bathroom tub was dirty when they found it, it meant we are neglectful and will be solely responsible for the mold. However, we never knew the vent was being taped off, so we have no reason to believe there was a moisture problem.

They are currently banning us from using the restroom (I don’t know if she can do this). This bathroom is the only one available to us in the apartment. Also, in the court letter, they are suing us for 9k instead of the 4k she told us about.

Do you guys have any advice on navigating this? I will do my own research but I just want to hear what your thoughts. I’m new to New York renting.

Landlord Discovered Mold

Please, I really need advice.

My landlord/primary tenant of my apartment reached out to us that they found mold on shower area ceiling and that they demanded us (me and another roommate) to pay 5000+ dollars for remediation.

Notes:
I have not regularly used that shower since January because I have been using the shower at my gym and work. Therefore, I was not aware of any mold development or cleaning issues. (Noting this fact in case I get asked how I haven’t noticed the cleaning/mold problems)

The bathroom is primarily used by my roommate. The primary tenant does not use this bathroom.

I have been away from the apartment for several weeks.

On June 23, the landlord/primary tenant photographed the bathroom and bathtub in a condition that admittedly needed cleaning, as well as spotting/discoloration on the ceiling that she claims is mold.

Since moving in, the bathroom has had no window and no exhaust fan, so ventilation is extremely limited. We were never informed of any pre-existing moisture issues, poor ventilation conditions, or special maintenance or moisture-control measures that would be necessary in a bathroom without ventilation.

The landlord/primary tenant immediately obtained a mold remediation estimate totaling over $5,000 and is demanding that my roommate and I pay for it.

The primary tenant's position is that the mold developed because we failed to properly maintain and clean the bathroom, and she is therefore holding us fully responsible for mold remediation costs.

The primary tenant also provided a warning notice from the same company that did the mold remediation estimate, stating that the bathroom is unsafe and should be sealed off until remediation is completed. However, this is the only bathroom available for my roommate and me to use in the apartment, and we have not been provided with any independent inspection report, testing results, moisture readings, or explanation of how the condition was determined to be our responsibility.

The documents provided were confusing. One document appeared to indicate that a full inspection was still scheduled or needed to be completed, while another stated that the bathroom should be sealed off until a full inspection was performed.

We were not provided with any information identifying the type of mold allegedly present, any testing results, moisture readings, credentials of the person providing the warning, or other findings supporting the conclusions reached. As a result, we have no way of independently evaluating the severity of the condition, the cause of the condition, or whether the proposed remediation is necessary and appropriate.

She is demanding payment immediately today and threatening legal action if we do not pay.

I have been away during all of this, so this has been extremely stressful. Landlord/primary tenant repeatedly ignored the fact that we told her we have our busy schedules and being away from town and have been trying to pursue/scream at my roommate when she goes out of the her room as well as knocking on my roommate's doors repeatedly.

Airfryer staining wall and counter

Landlord discovered this stain and claimed that they needed us to pay around 5,000 to repair/replace the wall and counter

This is my first time living alone and facing this problem with stains. Is it possible to be removed with cleaning? I’m away from home so I can’t inspect it yet, but I feel like my landlord is exaggerating and trying to get money from us. Please advise.

Edit: we cleaned it and it was just stain

Landlord claims we broke her vacuum

Hi Reddit,

I need your help again. My landlord has been requesting me to pay for utilities even though our agreement states utilities included in rent. She claimed we were negligent just because the bills were higher than she expected while providing no proofs whatsoever other than the bills statements (she also didn’t provide the bill statements before we moved in).

Recently, she claimed that her Dyson vacuum is now “unusable” and that my roommate and I must repair or replace it because it was working when we moved in and no longer works now. We did use the vacuum occasionally at the start of our tenancy, but we never noticed any damage or malfunction. The vacuum is old and had been used in a home with a dog (of the landlord), so it already had significant wear and accumulated pet hair. She has not identified what specifically is wrong with it or provided any evidence that we caused the issue, but is nonetheless demanding that we pay for repair or replacement.

She’s very firm on demanding us to pay for utilities and Dyson even when we point to the agreement and when we seek more information on evidence/proofs about the Dyson. What would you guys do?

Can she withhold our security deposit because she claims that we caused her “financial damage” with utilities bills and dyson?

Venting because I need to get this out of my system

I brought my two friends to solidcore recently and paid for it (because some reason solidcore marked it as unpaid even though I used my free buddy passes at the time but that's a whole another thing).

Right off the bat, one friend was late to come into the class and missed a portion of it. I took her to a starter50 because she said she had no experience with reformer. After the class, she ranted with my other friend that she thinks solidcore is waste and try to un-convince my other friend to not sign up for a membership with me.

Going on and on how she could get abs by replicating center core crunches with a roller and that all moves at solidcore (core, obliques, arms, legs) can be replicated at the gym and better because she can overload weights and "weights are better than springs." She also said that the appeal of solidcore is basically just having a coach yell at you to do it and that my other friend and I just need to "lock in better at the gym to stay motivated."

I'm being salty but after offering and paying her to come to solidcore just to be told what I'm doing is a waste and undermine the intensity of this workout, I just wanna crash out. Like okay "Jennifer", go lift your weights but why do you act like you're better than everyone

End rant
