Hints, tips & general recommendations for living in Milton Keynes?

Milton Keynes high on the list of possible places to relocate to later this year (specific area tbc, possibly Wolverton or Stony Stratford) as a divorced middle-aged bloke.

I'd really appreciate just hints & tips that would help make settling in easier, aspects only locals know about that I should bear in mind, things to avoid etc.

Plan to rent for 12 months before buying. I work from home with occasional trips to London, Cheltenham and Coventry on business.

TIA.

Shoe for return to running after a broken toe?

Male, 1.73m, 70kg. I was running ~ 60km a week outside of a training block. One full marathon & four halfs done so far this year. I broke the phalanx bone in my right big toe, it's healed I'm looking at starting again after 4 weeks off (cleared by my doctor).

Current rotation:

  • Mizuno Neo Zen 2: used for easy & long runs
  • Saucony Azura: used speed work on a track
  • Saucony Endorphin Speed 5: tempo runs, full & half marathons
  • Saucony Endorphin Pro 4: 10k races (I find a carbon plate too harsh for longer distances)

Wondering if I should get a different shoe for my return, something softer? I have a mild pronation corrected by custom orthotics. I hate Superblasts, Vomeros and prefer lighter weight shoes.

What shoe would you recommend? Are the Mizunos suitable?

Motorola phone repair

I've tried all the well known phone repair places but none of them can fix a Motorola Edge (water ingress). Serves me right for buying a less popular brand I guess but does anyone know of anywhere in Edinburgh that does Motorola repairs please?

Tips for the Cork marathon?

I'm coming to Cork to run the marathon next weekend, would appreciate any insights from those who have ran it before. I'm a bit concerned about what I've read about problems in previous years with them running out of water - how big an issue has this been? I've reviewed the route map but cannot see if there are any problem areas (cobbles etc.) that I need to keep an eye out for - any issues?

TIA.

I'm a month out from my third marathon, aiming for sub 3.50. Training had been going well, done a couple of successful halfs at MP in the last few weeks and finished feeling strong from a 22mile/35km long run last Saturday. Weekly distance that week was 52mile/84km and it's been a gradual build-up. I ran with my club on Tuesday night which included a steep decent on gravel. Felt fine at the time but my hip has been grumpy since.

I started a 20mile tune-up race this morning and DNF's at 2km due to hip flexor/adductor pain and a fear of making it worse. Physio appointment booked.

I was due to do my final 22mile/35km long run next Saturday before tapering. I'm unsure if I should start my taper now and supplement it with cross-training to minimise the loss in fitness or delay that long run by a week and have a short taper. Race is May 31st.

Thoughts?

Sausages & smoked bacon from a farm shop in Perthshire. Howies black pudding. There's a tattie scone underneath the mushroom. Branston beans. Tabasco Scorpion was applied to the egg after this was taken.
