That following day, Condordust comes across an outsider while on a hunting patrol. The cat was meowing rather loudly, clearly in distress and looking for someone. They were so occupied in there searching that they leap backwards at the sight of the clan she-cat, bristling their fur and hissing viciously. Condordust stands her ground preparedly, but stays calm, sitting herself down to show she means no harm. The other cat hunkers low to the ground, ears flat, growling in warning. The she-warrior softly explains she heard them and asks who they were looking for. After some thought and a few slow blinks from Condordust, they finally open up. Tears well up in their eyes, explaining a friend of theirs suddenly went missing and couldn’t find them for a whole day now. Condordust reluctantly asks what they looked like. After the other cat explains, she sets her ears back and closes her eyes in dismay. It’s just as she feared. Stepping a little closer to the outsider, she carefully explains what she and her clan mates found on the side of Thunderpath the other day. As she says this, the distressed cat stares at her in shock. They then look away, and begin to weep. Condordust comfortingly puts a paw on them. They don’t flinch. Some time later, the she-warrior offers to show them where they have buried their friend, for closure, of course. They quietly nod their head in agreement.
After visiting the burial sight, the outsider confirming it was surly their friend by sniffing the ground, they put their head to Condordust’s. This surprised her a bit, but she doesn’t pull away. They thank her warmly, and tells her to thank her friends as well, while also mentioning that they are grateful to know that there are some good-hearted warriors out there. Condordust wonders a bit about this, but doesn’t press. This cat has clearly been through enough already. They then part their own ways.
Later as Condordust returns, she spots Yewice drinking from a stream nearby the camp. She shyly approaches, her ears set back a bit, greeting him. He dips his head to her warmly and they enjoy a drink together, the she-warrior later sharing with him her eventful encounter. She requests he share the news with Runningcrawl later for her, as she’s emotionally compromised and exhausted from it all. He nods with understanding.
Meanwhile back at the camp, a daydreaming Harefur stretches from his sunning spot, where a flock of birds then fly overhead. He wonders how it would be just fantastic if he could grow wings to catch them easier. In the medicine den, as Falconrip is going over some herb inventory, a squirrel suddenly pops out of nowhere, checking the stash out, probably looking for some easy food to store for the upcoming leaf-bare… This startles Falconrip a good amount, leaping into the air, crying out and fur bristling. Oh he is getting too old for this…
In the nursery den, as Pigeonstripe keeps an eye on the kits for now for Condordust, she casually watches Sporelily walk back and forth near the warriors den, clearly deep in thought about something. It appears he is devising an effective teaching strategy for new skills. Breaking her thoughts on wondering how he was doing, Rainkit rather bossily tells her to change her bedding… She sighs, rolling her eyes amusedly, before getting up to do so. Meanwhile she sees Petalkit looking rather worrisome. She softly asks what’s the matter, only for him to stubbornly not want to share. After some encouraging, he finally gives in and embarrassingly explains that he’s wondering if he shouldn’t ask Falconrip for help about a problem he’s having, thinking there’s something wrong with him. She asks what it is, only for him to be reluctant again. Suddenly Rainkit tells her for him. It appears he’s been wetting the bedding. He tackles Rainkit for tatteling, Pigeonstripe breaking it up. Oh the joys of kit sitting… She then warmly comforts Petalkit that it’s nothing to be too concerned about. He is just a kit after all and the problem should soon pass. He mentions that Rainkit gets mad at him for it, where Pigeonstripe then gently yet firmly corrects her to have more patience and kindness, and suggests that maybe they could try sleeping in their own beddings for now until the problem subsides, and to be sure to not drink too much water before bed. The kits seem to agree to this, Petalkit feeling more hopeful and less bad about himself.
Runningcrawl notices Moonstar looking a bit down, worrying that she could be overworking herself. He approaches her. She seems to think that she doesn’t deserve the blessing of 9 lives from Starclan. His crystal blue eyes look into her orangey brown ones and tries to reassure her that he thinks she’s been a formidable leader, focusing on keeping the peace between other clans and standing firm to what is right if and when threatened. This seems to put her more at ease, and thanks the young warrior.
