What makes fantasy/medieval boots worth buying for you?

I’m working on handmade medieval-inspired leather boots, and one thing I keep thinking about is comfort.

A lot of costume boots look good in photos, but after a few hours at a Ren Faire, LARP event, or festival, comfort becomes everything.

So I’m trying to improve these with better leather, stronger construction, and possibly rubber soles for more grip and durability.

For people who wear boots at events: what matters most to you?

Comfort for walking all day, historical style, custom sizing, leather quality, rubber soles, or the overall fantasy look?

I’d love honest feedback before I make the next batch.

Which color would look best for medieval / Viking boots?

I’m planning the next batch of handmade cowhide leather boots for Ren Faire, LARP, Viking-inspired outfits, and medieval costumes.

I’m deciding between:

Dark brown

Natural brown

Black

Forest green

Deep red / burgundy

For your outfit, which color would you actually wear?

Rubber soles on medieval-style boots — smart practical upgrade or too modern?

I’ve been working on handmade leather boots inspired by medieval and early historical footwear, and I’ve been testing a new rubber sole upgrade.
I know traditional leather soles look more authentic, and I respect that. But for people who actually wear these boots outdoors , on grass, mud, stones, forest paths, fairs, or rough ground, leather alone can be slippery and wear down faster.
So I started testing a low-profile rubber sole. The goal is not to make the boots look modern, but to keep the old-world handmade leather look while adding better grip, comfort, and durability.
We even tested a pair with a shepherd in the mountains, where the boots were used regularly on difficult terrain. The result has been very encouraging so far.
For medieval-style boots, what do you think: would a thin rubber sole be a good practical compromise, or would you prefer leather soles for authenticity?

Would rubber soles make Ren Faire boots better for all-day walking?

I’ve been working on handmade leather boots inspired by medieval and LARP footwear, and I recently started testing rubber soles instead of only traditional leather soles.

The reason is simple: LARP boots don’t just need to look good in photos. People wear them on grass, rocks, mud, forest paths, and uneven ground for long hours.

We tested the new rubber sole version with a shepherd in the mountains who wears them regularly in rough terrain. So far, the result has been very good: better grip, better comfort, and much stronger for real outdoor use.

My goal is to keep the old-world handmade leather look, but make the boots more practical for people who actually wear them.

What do you think for LARP use — rubber soles are a smart upgrade, or do they feel too modern?

Rubber soles on medieval-style boots — practical upgrade or too modern?

I make handmade leather boots inspired by medieval / Ren Faire / LARP footwear, and I’ve been testing a big upgrade: rubber soles.

Leather soles look beautiful and feel more traditional, but I wanted these boots to survive real use — walking all day at fairs, trails, camps, muddy paths, stones, and rough ground.

So we tested rubber soles in a more extreme way: we gave a pair to a shepherd in the mountains. He wears them almost every day in difficult terrain, and the result has been honestly better than expected. More grip, more comfort, and much better durability for actual outdoor use.

My goal isn’t museum-perfect historical footwear. It’s handmade fantasy/Ren Faire boots that still look old-world, but can handle real walking.

I’m also considering offering a 4/5 -year sole durability guarantee for normal wear.

What do you think — would rubber soles make medieval-style boots more useful, or do you prefer leather soles for authenticity?

POV: your medieval boots discovered streetwear

Took these medieval-inspired shoes for a modern-day quest.
No horse, no castle… just sunshine, sidewalks, and confused pedestrians 😂
What do you think: bard, jester, noble traveler, or “lost NPC in 2026”?

Would these boots work for a Ren Faire outfit?

I’ve been working on a pair of handmade leather boots inspired by medieval and Ren Faire styles.

I’m still improving the design and would love honest feedback. Do these feel more like a Viking look, ranger/mercenary outfit, or general medieval traveler style?

Also curious what color people prefer for this kind of footwear: Red, natural brown, dark brown, or distressed/worn leather?
