AITA for not paying for a thumbnail?

I've been trying to find a youtube thumbnail creator online, and there was this one individual (I'll call them Charle). So Charle agrees to make a thumbnail demo, and if I accept it, then I will pay 30$CAD. It's a demo, so it's to test if they'll fit. I did make that clear.

They send over an idea for the thumbnail demo that seems good enough, I tell Charle that the idea is good.

So they send an AI thumbnail. All good, it doesn't match my style or what I want, so I just say thanks for making it but we won't be continuing. Then this exchange happens (I don't know who Buford is):

>𝑪 𝑯 — 2:10 AM

>This is based on concept brother

>me — 9:19 AM

>very nice

>𝑪 𝑯 — 9:19 AM

>Thank you

>Btw, Did you sent it ?

>me — 9:20 AM

>send what?

>𝑪 𝑯 — 9:20 AM

>For this thumbnails payment

>me — 9:20 AM

>I am not paying for the thumbnail.

>𝑪 𝑯 — 9:20 AM

>Alright i will complain my friend buford to remove your every project

>me — 9:21 AM

>Buford?

So my question is twofold: AITA? And who is Buford?

PSA to AI creators with low CTR

I've seen a lot of posts that ask "what can I do to??" with low views and bad ctr. All their thumbnails are obvious AI.

So here is what you do:

  1. go on photopea.com, (I am not affiliated with them), it's free no sign up

  2. get some screenshots of whatever your video is about

  3. put a good enough looking screenshot as the background of a photopea project

  4. mess around with it and try to make the thumbnail simple and look good

Using obvious AI will instantly kill your ctr. The thumbnail is how people decide to click on your video, so if you want to get clicks, put some effort into it. Honestly about an hour or two should result in a good enough thumbnail. I would also recommend learning a bit of color theory and composition to get better.

This is coming from someone who has gotten 10k+ views on a long form video and 1 million+ on a short form.

Also remember that it will probably take a lot of time and effort before you gain any results.

Looking for thumbnail designer 30$/thumbnail

I need it to very closely match the style of https://YouTube.com/@tryingcode

I use photopea to make them, pixel art, no face, simplistic.

I would want a psd file as well as PNG so that I could tweak and verify.

AI not accepted, not even for assets.

30$CAD/thumbnail if accepted. I would need 3 thumbnails per video.

Thumbnail Contest - 100$CAD 1st prize - 10$CAD 2nd prize - FREE entry

EDIT: THIS CONTEST IS CANCELLED.

Resources:

Video is a devlog for tryingtocode.com, you can get screenshots there.

title ideas: "this is my first website" "why did this take 3 months?" "I invented a new way to teach code" "making websites work on phones is too hard"

thumbnail ideas are in comments.

  • popularity: upvote thumbnails you think you would click on (not necessary to win)

  • 1st place: 100$CAD
  • 2nd place: 10$CAD
  • +10$ if I use it (I will ask permission first)

PSD files will be expected to prove that you are the owner. Screenshots do not prove ownership by themselves.

I've been making a free project based gamified learning to code site

homepage

You gain coins for learning to code, you can use the coins to buy things (very limited amount of things right now.)

The goal is to allow users who've never seen code to be writing within a minute and intuitively gain an understanding of it.

Feedback is great! No ads, no signup, no buying stuff.

Try here: https://tryingtocode.com

Thumbnails I made recently, 5-10$ / thumbnail

Simple thumbnails like this take me an hour or so to make, no AI, and I can draw pixel art style or vector art.

what do you think of my thumbnail?

the video would be about my web tool I made that helps teachers teach learners to code, and how to use it

The new homepage for https://tryingtocode.com

I've been working on tryingtocode.com which is a coding site. It's slogan is: "An introduction to Python. Complete projects to earn coins." I think the new homepage (image 1) is looking a bit better than before (image 2).

You learn to code in python by coding in bite sized pieces. Sort of like project based learning rather than tutorial based.

I think it's a fun little site.

I'm consulting developers who want to make good devlogs / reviewing dev channels

Devlogs can be a really big form of marketing for developers, and with 4 years of experience I can help beginners penetrate into the fields of video editing, thumbnail design, storytelling, and fostering an audience.

It's a bit niche but I'm wondering if anyone on here has a need for this, or knows someone who might have a need?

if that's you, then dm me here.
