Magical Themes in Entertainment

I've interacted with Christians (usually Baptist or non-denominational) who believe we should avoid any film or book with magical elements - including the Wizard of Oz, Narnia, Tolkien, et al. I never meet Reformed people like that, and my Presbyterian school even made a production of the Wizard of Oz. Is there a reason behind the different attitudes?
