From a child his family couldn’t afford to feed to a man entrusted with serving an entire district, this is what refusing to give up can look like.

At 5, Abdul Nasar was sent to an orphanage because his mother could no longer feed all six of her children after their father's demise.

For 13 years, he grew up away from home, worked odd jobs, delivered newspapers and studied whenever he could.

Then, one encounter with a young IAS officer gave him a dream: become a district collector.

Years of struggle, work and persistence later, Abdul cleared the civil services exam, became an IAS officer and eventually served as District Collector of Kollam.
