OC The Nikon F3
But the Nikon F3 is a thing of beauty, all Giugiaro curves and that jaunty little red stripe, and it makes a click so satisfying you want to buy it a drink. Which, in Dublin, is never a difficult proposition.

…….stand on the headland on a clear evening, looking down at that improbable tumble of slate and whitewash wedged into its cleft, and you can't help admiring it………….
Surfing in Bude
Is there much to be gained by having one of these serviced to try to remove haze? Does anyone have any experience of having tried it? Any comments gratefully received……..
I had come to the Knave of Clubs, in a frankly unearned way, to walk in the footsteps of Markéta Luskačová, who photographed in this very room in 1975 and 1976 and produced pictures now hanging in the Tate and the Arts Council Collection — a woman with a bird in a cage, a man laughing, ordinary people made permanent.
Meanwhile the light does something extraordinary. It comes through the windows all grey and secondhand, catches the smoke that isn’t there any more and the condensation that certainly is………..
Can be gorgeous……….Hatherleigh
What makes the Lustleigh Show so thoroughly winning , like the Soho Summer Fête, is that none of it is remotely necessary and all of it is done with total conviction. Nobody, in the twenty-first century, needs to know whose bantams are best or whose fruitcake achieves the ideal density, and yet here were several hundred people who plainly did need to know, and had waited a year to find out. It is the great, daft, indestructible machinery of the English village asserting, once again, that community is a thing you build in a muddy field with a raffle and a beer tent and a man on a loudspeaker apologising for the tannoy. I left with a slice of cake I hadn't meant to buy, a rosette-shaped hole in my understanding of horticulture, and the settled conviction that any country capable of taking this much trouble over a courgette is, whatever its other failings and despite The Donald’s best efforts, going to be perfectly all right.
This thing has 45 autofocus points which, in 1998, was basically hover board territory. But the real party trick is eye‑control autofocus………..".
Two men in overcoats of the sort that have long since given up any pretence of shape, hauling on a single length of rope, and at the end of it a sick ram being dragged across a muddy Devon field in an old, galvanised tin bath……..

It’s just a wonderful exhibition……
“ It blocks a corner of the viewfinder, it won’t focus closer than a metre, and if you collapse it into certain bodies without checking first you will hear a noise you’ll think about at three in the morning for the rest of your life…………
A link to Bayliss’ you tube investigating why this worked for JR is contained within a wider look at his work here:-
The thing is magnificent, in fairness: a shutter good to 1/8000th, a body that feels like it was milled rather than moulded, and, with the booster grip attached, a frame rate that sounds less like photography than like someone attempting to eat a bag of crisps quietly in a cathedral. Today they sell for the price of a decent meal in Shoreditch, which tells you everything about how the world has arranged its priorities……….it is without doubt my most effective analogue camera and with the 40mm pancake a super accurate if somewhat chunky point and press..
