Introducing r/ModelUNHub MiniMUN I, a Reddit text-based MUN!

Hello, delegates!

We're excited to announce the first-ever r/ModelUNHub MiniMUN, a completely free, text-based Model United Nations conference hosted right here on Reddit.

Whether you're a seasoned delegate or attending your very first MUN, this conference is designed to be an accessible, engaging, and educational experience.

📝 What is a Text MUN?

Instead of debating in Zoom or in person, committee sessions will take place through dedicated Reddit threads.

Delegates will:

  • Deliver opening speeches
  • Debate in moderated caucuses
  • Negotiate during unmoderated caucuses
  • Draft resolutions collaboratively
  • Vote on draft resolutions
  • Compete for delegate awards

All at your own keyboard!

🌟 Why are we doing this?

Many students don't have access to regular MUN conferences due to cost, travel, or lack of opportunities. And many beginner delegates are intimidated because they feel underprepared the first time they walk in.
ModelUNHub aims to make MUN more accessible by providing free practice conferences, resources, and a welcoming community for delegates of all experience levels.

📅 Conference Information

Committees: UNHRC and DISEC

Agenda: UNHRC- Addressing the Human Rights Implications of Artificial Intelligence
DISEC- Regulating Militarized Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Weapons Systems

Platform: Reddit on r/ModelUNHub

Cost: Completely Free

Date: 2 August, 2026

📚 Before the Conference

Over the coming weeks, we'll be posting:

  • Background Guides
  • Research Guides
  • Delegate Workshops
  • Rules of Procedure
  • Position Paper & Resolution Writing Guides
  • Committee Training Sessions

No prior MUN experience is required—we'll help you prepare every step of the way.

We're incredibly excited to launch this new initiative and hope you'll join us in making MiniMUN I a success.

See you in committee!

How I Research for an MUN (My Personal Workflow)

This is the system I personally follow. It's helped me win awards, but every delegate develops their own style over time. Feel free to adapt it to what works best for you.

1. Understand the Agenda

Before researching your country, understand the topic itself.

Read from multiple sources:

  • Background Guides (if provided)
  • Wikipedia (great starting point—not your final source)
  • YouTube explainers
  • UN reports
  • News articles

Ask yourself:

  • What is the issue?
  • Why is it happening?
  • Who is affected?
  • Why does the UN care?

2. Research Your Country

Now shift your focus to your assigned portfolio.

Learn about:

  • Foreign policy
  • Political ideology
  • Economy
  • Allies and rivals
  • Previous actions on the agenda
  • Official government statements

The goal is to understand what your country believes, not what you believe.

3. Connect the Country to the Agenda

This is where many beginners struggle.

Ask:

  • How does this agenda affect my country?
  • What has my country already done?
  • What would my country realistically support or oppose?

Your speeches and solutions should always align with your country's policies.

4. Research Other Key Countries

Don't just research yourself.

Identify:

  • Major supporters
  • Major opponents
  • Countries most affected
  • Countries likely to lead discussions

Look into:

  • Their policies
  • Their achievements
  • Their failures
  • Any contradictions you can raise through Points of Information (POIs)

Knowing your opposition often gives you a huge advantage during debate.

5. Read Previous UN Resolutions

Use the UN Digital Library (UNDL) to find:

  • Previous resolutions
  • Reports
  • Committee documents

This helps you understand:

  • What has already been tried
  • What worked
  • What failed
  • What gaps still exist

Then, build your own realistic solutions instead of reinventing the wheel.

6. Prepare Your Opening (GSL) Speech

Write one strong General Speakers' List speech that:

  • Introduces your country's stance
  • Explains the issue briefly
  • Presents 2–3 key solutions
  • Leaves room to elaborate later

Keep it concise—you'll have limited speaking time.

7. Network Before the Conference (If Possible)

If the conference has a Discord, WhatsApp group, or other online space:

  • Introduce yourself
  • Meet other delegates
  • Explore possible alliances
  • Get a sense of committee dynamics

Don't finalize everything beforehand, but having early contacts can help.

8. Prepare for Moderated Caucuses

Think beyond your GSL.

Prepare:

  • Short speeches on likely subtopics
  • Statistics
  • Possible POIs
  • Responses to criticism
  • Backup solutions

9. Show Up Ready to Adapt

No amount of preparation can predict everything.

Listen carefully, adapt to the flow of debate, negotiate with others, and don't be afraid to change your strategy when needed.

Being flexible is just as important as being well-researched.

Final Tips

  • Don't memorize speeches instead understand your research.
  • Save important sources for quick reference during committee.
  • Focus on your country's interests, not your personal opinions.
  • Confidence comes from preparation, not from speaking the loudest.

Good luck, Delegates!

I've got slouched shoulders due to boobies, and now I've got shoulder pain, is it still fixable?

argh I feel weird posting this but ok, I'm 17 and like a few years ago I used to be really insecure about my breasts and started slouching to hide them or whatever and now I've got permanently slouched shoulders and IT'S STARTING TO LIKE GENUINELY HURT DUDE, can I still fix it? I found some excercise but what good would doing it for 20 mins do if for the rest 24 hours I'm slouching?

What's one resource you wished you had when you were a beginner?

For example:

  • Breaking down complicated agendas into simple language?
  • Geopolitical explainers?
  • Research resources and databases?
  • Chair insights?
  • Speech examples?
  • Resolution-writing tips?
  • Current affairs summaries?
  • Something else entirely?

I'm especially interested in things you couldn't find easily when you first started MUN.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

What the heck is wrong with indian cinema?

I saw this movie called "Mere Husband Ki Biwi" and dude, WHAT?!!

The whole movie is about how Prabhleen is problematic and shit but what did she even do?

Like genuinely please someone explain, where was she wrong?

The guy seemed more of a red flag to me!

1.She came back from work and mother in law asked her to humour guests which she refused becuz ofc she's tired but the guy says SHE'S NOT THE SAME AS UR MOM like what?!

  1. Fell down during work and the foetus didn't get harmed but the guy went so crazy that he went ahead and took all her stuff from her office, cursed her boss and like basically got her fired? Like that's acceptable now because he was emotional about his child, really you expect me to believe that?

3.He didn't pick up her calls, behaved so immaturely and the girl genuinely loved her job! She got the child aborted then because yeah her body, her choice, like obv the guy should have a say but the emotional, physical effects are being endured by the girl and then the guy got her fired???

The only problematic thing shown was at the start when she said no to him just for drama, and commented on the other girls shorts+rest of the movie after that

I GENUINELY THOUGHT THEY'LL ALL LEAVE THE MAIN GUY AND LIVE AS LESBIANS OR STUFF??!! LIKE THE GUY IS SUCH A RED FLAG AND INDIAN CINEMA IS NORMALISING THAT?????

Women who have experienced sexual harrasment, how has it affected you?

I've been thinking about my own experiences, stuff that happened with me in the past and all I remember is freezing up and being unable to do anything.

For a long time, I didn't even classify my experience of getting groped as sexual harrasment because I thought only rape was classified as it.

I talked to my friends, and so many of them, barely teens, have had experiences similar to mine.

If you're comfortable sharing, I wanna know, what happened with you, how did you react and did it have any lasting effects?

I'm just trying to understand other people's perspectives so please share whatever ypu feel comfortable with, no pressure :)

Was this really about respecting the puja, or about policing girls' clothing? Why was not a single man pointed out for wearing shorts?

I'm just so confused by comments to my previous post,

For context- https://www.reddit.com/r/AskIndianWomen/comments/1u9sggm/should_i_confront_the_pandit/

I wanted to know whether I should confront the pandit or not for making comments on a 13 yr old child's attire and a few people made it about "shorts are not appropriate for a puja"

I'm not stupid, even I know that people expect suits, salwars and sarees in a pooja, but thing is modest clothing is only expected from women.

My father, and many other men, wore shorts to the pooja, in a room where temperatures were as high as 40 C and a cooler was creating stifling humidity rather than any cooling. I, myself, was wearing a salwar and sweating throughout the pooja. One woman almost fainted due to the extreme heat.

My sister slipped and got water on herself. We didn't have extra clothes on hand, just one set of clothes she wore to bed that was a tshirt and shorts. My sister was begging to change because obviously she's a child attending a pooja in her own home and not a grown married woman in her sasural as many of you seem to have mistaken her to be. Finally my mother allowed her to change into shorts.

She came back into the room after changing, and while a sermon was going on related to Parikshit, the pandit ji started to make comments on how women nowadays wear revealing clothes and a modest women should cover herself up.

Many commenters justified his behaviour, by saying it's an offense to wear such things in front of a pandit.

She's a child

My father wore shorts throughout the pooja and was sitting right there

This wasn't the first time the pandit made such comments on women during the ceremony

Why aren't the same standards applied to everyone? You go to a party and the theme is set to be modest clothing then yeah, everyone will wear it and if someone doesn't it would be disrespectful.

BUT when my father was wearing it too why was a child who can't defend herself shamed in front of a room full of people?

Many people said, you don't wear a bikni to an office, a lehenga to a beach.

Lehenga's are uncomfortable, you can't wear them on the beach otherwise you won't be able to enjoy. I literally don't understand how a bikni is even remotely related to shorts. Comparing those is basically is trying to show my sister wore something super revealing which she didn't.

When she didn't have anything else to change into why do people think she was trying to be disrespectful to anyone?

I didn't include my father wearing shorts too bcoz I didn't think it was relevant at that point but now after seeing what many people have said, I think it's important to ask,

Why was this double standard present? Why was a child target to a sermon on women's modesty?

Many responses were more concerned about why my sister wore shorts than why the pandit did this.

I'm so disappointed after seeing this. Women are judging a child for wearing shorts to a pooja rather than calling out the pandit?

Some people on AIW almost made me cry, thank you very much, because of how you compared my sister's shorts to a bikni.

A pooja for peace of mind, pooja to spread good vibes was ruined for me, because it became about a girl's clothing rather than the good values Hinduism promotes.

Should I confront the pandit??

I attended a pooja(17F), and what happened was basically that my sister(13) wanted to change into something comfortable, and she did wear shorts. She came back to the puja while the pandit was distributing his teachings regarding hindu scriptures, he commented that women shouldn't wear revealing clothes, they should cover themselves up etc etc. Everyone there was wearing sarees and suits, only my sister was in shorts and his comment came just after she entered the room.

Might be a coincidence. But after this was shared, many women started telling me other comments the pandit had made regarding women, like the women were literally unable to believe a guy like him was married and still speaking such things.

I feel really angry but thing is if I say anything, I'll be the one called disrespectful, and the pandit will just stop the pooja and run off. But literally I can't ignore someone commenting on a child's attire, so yeah idk.

edit-spelling

edit 2- she had a salwar on which she spilled water on and we didn't have any extra clothes on hand and mom said to just wear that but she was v uncomfortable so mom said to wear shorts

Looking for people willing to share their John Locke Essays!

I've submitted my essay to the competition and I saw a bunch of topics that I found super interesting but wasn't able to research on and write essays for so just wanted to ask if there are people willing to exchange essays just to you know, we all can learn more and improve our writing and stuff?

If you've got concerns about plagiarism, I'll assure you I won't do that but even then you can wait for the essay's final deadline (21 June I believe) and then share them!

Thank you all! Please message me here on reddit if you're interested.
