Hard to kill flowering plants

My daughter is constantly trying to pick at my plants and it’s driving me crazy! Is there any flowering plants I can get that are hard to kill that I can get her so she can pick that instead?

What’s damaging my bird of paradise?

I just got this guy as a gift, I repotted him in better draining soil but something is going on with him and I’m not sure what. He sits in an east facing window

Questions

What is it?
My mother in law says she’s had it for years and it has not grown one bit.. what could be the reason for the stunted growth?

How to keep alive

I just bought this beauty today! I know the soil needs to be changed because it is compacted and very water retaining and they don’t like to stay wet but what else? I have a balcony that is east facing so it gets morning sun and some afternoon sun. Should I put it in the window or keep it where it’s at in the first photo?

This started out as 5 single leaves last month. This is the first time I’ve owned plants in my life.. Pretty proud of myself. They all sit on my desk in a bay window facing east so they get direct sun from morning to about 11- 12
