New job

Hey everyone,

I'm starting a new job in a couple of weeks and want to be as prepared as I can.

Is there anything you did when starting a new job that really helped? Or something you wish you'd done differently in those first few weeks or months?

Thanks!!

First time ever without a job lined up

This is the last week at probably the most toxic workplace I’ve ever worked at.. For the first time ever I don’t have another job lined up straight away.

Mortgage, bills.. starts playing in your head but at the same time, I feel calm too. Feels like a mix of relief, anxiety and “what the hell do I do now”.

Anyway, hope everyone is doing alright out there. Look after yourselves, back yourselves and remember work is only one part of life. Things eventually work out!

Who was your best man if you didn’t really have close friends? Honest question

I’m living overseas and my family can’t attend my wedding. I also don’t really have that one close friend I’d naturally pick as a best man... Initially it was going to be my cousin, but he and his partner are having a baby the same month, so travelling won’t be possible anymore.

My fiancée suggested her brother, which honestly is a nice gesture, but I don't know..just would like some suggestions/help

Did anyone else go through something similar? What did you end up doing? Thanks so much

Has anyone ever recorded something at work because the environment got that bad?

I was in a Zoom meeting recently where my manager was screaming at one of my coworkers. I honestly didn’t join the meeting intending to record anything, but the whole situation was so insane and toxic that I instinctively recorded part of it while it was happening.

I’m curious if anyone else has ever ended up recording something at work because the environment became so bad, and what you ended up doing afterwards with it.

Thanks

Anyone else ever realise their workplace is toxic, but somehow stay there so long it starts feeling normal?
Not even always the job itself.

I think I’ve been trying to “sugarcoat” it to myself for a while now. Like telling myself every workplace is stressful, every manager is difficult, everyone feels drained after work.

Feels almost cult-ish sometimes. Deep down you know the treatment isn’t right, but you keep rationalising it because of routine, money, career, whatever.

For people who went through this, would mind sharing with me? Kind if what was the final straw where you realised “nah, this actually isn’t normal”?
Thanks!

I’ve seen heaps of posts here about people trying to meet others or find something to do. I’m in the same boat, so here goes.

I’m into true crime and cult documentaries. Stuff like Love Has Won, Escaping Twin Flames, Stolen Youth, (Just finished AUM)I start watching one thing and end up deep into it for hours...

Not starting a cult, just to be clear Lol

Also, if something like this already exists in Adelaide, let me know. Would rather join than accidentally start something. Just think would be cool to have a casual meet up. Coffee once a month, talk about whatever people are watching or reading.

If you’re into it, say hi.
