Homegrown…

One of the best parts of gardening is the cooking. Last night:

Balsamic Dijon chicken thighs 🐓 with homegrown 4th of July tomatoes 🍅 - halved & seeded, homegrown ripe red jalapeños 🌶️ - halved, seeded, & sliced, and garlic. 🧄 Lots of roughly chopped garlic.

This was a simple, “improvisational” thing to use up garden stuff. 2+ cups tomatoes, 3 BIG red jalapeños (we’re growing Megatrons), 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar, 1/2 cup water, 2 tbsp EVOO, Mexican oregano (of course), and a heaping tbsp of Dijon mustard. Served over angel hair pasta and topped with grated Parmesan. No plated pics - we were starving!

I cook almost every evening. She married well…😆😘

Ionic 5” Curved Nerf Bars

Just installed my favorite bars on our new 2026. Took about an hour, but I’m that freak who gets out a level. Wife is 5’1” and those are a non-negotiable purchase condition on any truck.

Also had the same bars on our 2012 and 2019 Rams. They complement the truck lines (imo), are a perfect fit, the step pads are replaceable, they’re easy to clear of snow, and they’re a decent bargain at $299.

New truck day

4th Ram Laramie in a row. 2005, 2012, 2019… 2026. Was tempted to get the green, but went with the granite. 3.0l TT Hurricane this time, the others were 5.7l Hemis.

Nerf bars will be here Friday so my short wife can get in without hiking her dress up over her head. Took the boat down to gas it up this morning, just to see how it rides. Same as the other three.

Now to find a bed cover. My last two Rams have had the 1-piece UnderCover tops. Damn things have doubled in price - now $1,500. Looking at 3/4 section folding cover this time. Any recommendations?

My son just dropped $400+ on a putter…

…and is now eyeballing an $800 driver. He’s a 3-4 handi, but I still think he’s insane.😆😉

Realistically, there are no more subjective, debated, over-analyzed, and expensive golf weapons than the putter and the driver. One is the shortest hitting while the other is then longest (sometimes).

While the driver will be hit (sorta) 12-14 times during a round, the putter will always be most-used club in the bag, counting for around 50% (often more) of the player’s stroke total. Yet it’s the one that typically gets the least practice - and typically relies on mood swings and magic…

I really hate F&I…

This actually happened YESTERDAY…

Negotiated the deal on a new vehicle via email/text and went down to close and take delivery. Best offer out of the 4 dealerships I contacted and zero mention of financing whatsoever. Went over the #s with the salesperson a final time, told him I was using my credit union. After a 60+ minute stall (alleged computer issues) - where I actually saw the salesman sitting in the F&I office and bullshitting with the guy - he came back and we headed for F&I. 825 CBR so everything should be a breeze, right?

Again, the numbers were discussed and he shows me the full amount at 6.95% @ 72 months. I show him the CU approval on my phone, counter with 50% down and 4.74% @ 36 months. At that point, Mr. F&I informs me that the deal is only valid with dealer financing, 6.95% is their best rate, and my CU approval is unacceptable. We went back and forth for a few minutes before I finally I stood up, made a few unsavory remarks, and headed for the door.

The sales guy and the GM intercepted me in the showroom asked what was going on, and I told them (quite loudly, not exactly proud of that but I was pissed).

“That’s the only way we’re making any money on this deal!” Which I completely doubt as nothing is free. I told them I was going over to dealer #2 to buy my truck.

They got me back to F&I and told the guy to honor my CU approval. I sat back down and the F&I guy had the balls to say, “Okay… Can we discuss your warranty options?” No, no, and no…

I’d done my homework and knew it was a very attractive deal (I’m a financing account manager in a different industry where we don’t screw with our customers - 80%+ repeat business) or I would have kept walking. I’m also one of those weirdos that shows up with printed spreadsheets, ready to adjust the calcs on my phone - I don’t think they like that.

There’s a reason most people despite this onerous shit…

First oil change…

2026 1500 Laramie, 3.0l TT Hurricane. Maybe I’m old school, but with a new vehicle I’ve always done the 1st “break-in” oil change at around 500 miles, then stuck with the owner’s manual prescribed oil intervals going forward.

Is the early new car oil change still a thing? I take delivery on Thursday, it’s coming in from another store.

Purchasing tomorrow, however…

2026 Ram Laramie, finally. To get it exactly how I want it, they’re driving in a unit in from 400 miles away. I think I’m getting a pretty good deal on this (I harassed 5 different dealers, everyone came to the party) so they won’t truck it.

However, I agreed to close on it tomorrow morning with a “subject to final inspection” rider on the docs. Any rock chips, scratches, road damage, or if the transport driver rolls it three times - everything & anything will be addressed or the deal can be unwound before acceptance.

I’m a financial guy in a completely different line of business, and confident in wording the rider. But… Am I courting an uncomfortable situation here? Any thoughts? 70 year old dealership I’ve purchased from before.

Dealer stock question

Possibly an unfounded concern, but…

Mentioned here a few days ago that I found a new Ram 1500 Laramie equipped the way I want, the color/exterior trim I want, no dealer installed add-ons, and at an extremely competitive price. Very mainstream configuration - definitely not a unicorn.

However , the disconcerting part of the deal is that this particular truck build date is August 10, 2025 - a YEAR ago, that was the initial 2026 model release month.

Is this possibly a red flag? I questioned both the sales guy & the floor manager. Both were very vague, “I’m not sure why, we sell a lot of trucks here.”

Seems an inordinate amount of time to be in stock, or am I making a needless fuss out of this? There’s 11 miles on the truck, so it’s not a demo or loaner stock.

2026 Laramie (level 1+) Pricing - The discounts are confusing

Offer sheet from this morning:

MSRP $69,625
12% Ram Discount $8,255
Dealer Discount (not itemized, so…) $7,505
Price before TT&R, doc fee and the “negotiable nonsense” add-ons $53,865

Is there still meat on this bone or is this an equitable offer?

Everyone has to make a buck, but I do like to retain some of my bucks. The truck is a perfect fit except for the sunroof, but can live with it. Personally, I find them useless…

Tonneau cover options

On our last three Rams (2019, 2012, 2005) we’ve had the big, one-piece, hinging RealTruck Undercover tops - heavy duty, long lasting, and trouble free. You can dance on the thing. But when you need height to haul something, they can be a bitch to remove/hang on the wall/re-install.

For our “upcoming” 2026, we’re possibly considering a tri-fold hardtop - fiberglass, ABS, or aluminum. Biggest concern is scraping 6”+ of snow off it on a winter morning. I use a plastic lipped snow shovel and a 24” shop broom on the Undercover and it’s never shown any scratches.

Any recommendations?
Any NFWs?

Always a price vs long term value thing. I see some installed on trucks where they visibly sag in the middle - that would make me bat-shit crazy…

Serrano Green…

We’re in the market for a new Ram (4th in a row) and went to a local dealership today, primarily to check out the color options. Although it’s super niche and probably a resale burden down the road, I really like it.

We’re currently driving a silver and before that a white, but the one before those was that metallic blue upper over silver lower. And when the time came, it sold easily.

Love it or hate it???

Stop Sell?

I was at a Ram dealership this morning and was told a “Stop Sell” was going into effect at noon today due to some massive recall/repair/replace” situation. This from a group of guys three floor salespeople. Of course, they “didn’t know” the reason.

Fact or fiction? I can’t imagine telling prospective customers this if there wasn’t some truth behind it…

Destination Charge

Looking at a new 2026 Ram Laramie. The Monroney sticker lists the destination charge at $2,600 - Almost 5% of the MSRP! Haven’t purchased a new vehicle since 2020. Wow, a bit shocking…

Completely new at this…

Just received my first Apple Watch (11 series) two weeks ago and it arrived with a 60% charge. And just received my first Apple phone (17) the week before. A LOT for a long-time Android guy to digest…😁

Anyway, we were barely getting acquainted with it and it was charging fine. Then we went on a 10 day international vacation and I left it home in the safe as we really weren’t comfortable with each other yet. And my Type-A brain would spend the whole trip obsessing with the watch.

Took it out today and hooked up the charger, this is what I’m seeing. Hopefully this just means that the battery was totally drained. How long for a full charge?

No pellet guns allowed???

I was at a local indoor range, shooting some 9mm handguns recently and politely (key word) inquired about bringing my Gamo Whisper Fusion Mach I with me next time, as they do allow small-bore rifles.

“No pellet guns allowed on the range!” was literally barked at me immediately. Jeez, let some guys open-carry and work the desk at a range - instant OK Corral wannabe (my apologies to Doc Holliday).

Anyway, is this common at indoor ranges or just this place? You’d think I was asking if I could light up an RPG…🙄

Naked in the neighborhood…

This morning, one of our Uber-Mormon neighbors remarked that we do yard work “half naked.” Of course, in that trademark, holier-than-thou tone. AFTER I offered to help them with a sprinkler issue.

I guess t-backs, tank tops, and high-cut gym shorts are obscene around here, even when it’s 80+ degrees. MYOFB!😆🙄
