Medial Femoral Condyle Bruise/Microfracture

Hello all!

I got a knee injury while dancing at a wedding about three months back. I twisted my knee weirdly while dipping someone, and got a sharp pain that made it hard (but still manageable) to walk. The pain and instability improved over the next week or so, but I can't say it has improved a lot in the last two months.

I went for an MRI last week to see what was up with it, and most of my knee seems normal. There were no ligament/meniscus/cartilage issues noted. However they did find one thing:

"There is a patchy focus of marrow signal alteration along the posteromedial margin of the medial femoral condyle that may represent a marrow contusion or nondisplaced microfracture."

Based on this, it looks like I have a bone bruise or microfracture in my femur. I'm meeting with my doctor tomorrow to talk to about the results, but I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this kind of injury or know much about it?

Thanks!

Preloading Lower Control Arms Yes/No

So I'm replacing the front lower control arms on a 2005 Toyota Sienna (3MZ-FE), and I know that as a general rule it is *absolutely* necessary to preload lower control arms before you torque them in. However... I have the following lower control arm, and I'm not entirely understanding why it is necessary (especially for two of the three bolts).

Looking at the photo I took where the two bolts go in to the lower control arm, it seems that when I torque it down, it will twist to be flush with the subframe regardless of whether it is preloaded or not. Why would I need to torque those down under load? I don't see how it's going to be put under additional stress if I don't.

Now for the third bolt (the one in the middle of the bushing), I can see how it could move a bit under load. It gets slotted in to this bracket on the subframe, and there is a tiny bit of room for movement. However, I'm also not sure whether it matters that much, since the clearance for movement in the bracket is so slight. Anyway, I wanted to get everyone's take!

Thanks in advance!

Stolen Bicycle of Sentimental Value

Hi all,

In the last few weeks I had two bicycles stolen from an apartment complex bike room (it was U-locked and everything) off of MLK and Airport Blvd. I honestly don't care about the nicer of the two bikes, but the other one was a 20th birthday gift from my mom and she passed last year. It has major sentimental value. It's a Fuji Absolute 2.1 Hybrid. I will gladly provide a reward for anyone who finds it!

Possible Engine Knock?

Does my 2014 V6 (2GR-FE) sound like it has a knock to y'all? I think I'm just paranoid, but I thought I would post here to get some additional opinions.

Damaged Garage Door Siding While Leaving The Garage...

Hell all,

Today I made a mistake while getting out of my garage (I was in a hurry and it was dumb... I don't wanna talk about it lol)... I scraped the metal cladding off the edge of the garage (along with a tiny bit of wood). I'm not worried about the wood, but the metal is all messed up.

Any recommendations for a relatively cheap/easy solution? I think the damaged metal is at least two decades old, otherwise I would just look for an identical replacement. Thanks in advance!

Laptop Screen Backlight/Brightness Issue

Hi all,

I have a Dell Latitude 5430 laptop (Linux Mint 22.3 - Cinnamon 64-bit --- 7.0.0-28-generic) that I keep plugged in to a dock 95% of the time. The other day I unplugged it from the dock to use it, and I found that the screen was extremely dark. It allows me to change the brightness, but it goes from basically black, all the way up to... Very dim.

My first assumption was that it might be a hardware issue (I've had Dell screens go out on me before), but I noticed that on boot up the Mint logo has a normal level of brightness for 1-2 seconds, but once it gets to the login screen it gets dark.

Normally I would just roll back the last update, but I honestly have no idea how long it has been like this. It could have been 3-4 weeks since the issue started (I don't know the last time I disconnected the laptop from the dock). If anyone has any recommendations, that would be great. Thanks!

Bathroom Vanity Conundrum

Hi All,

I have a bathroom vanity that was originally black stone (at least I think it was stone? It looks like some kind of stone swirl under the paint). It was spray-painted white, but as you can see in the photo below... The paint is peeling and really gross. I have zero desire to spend money replacing the entire vanity, but at the same time... The counter just can't stay as is. It's also an unusually shaped counter top (46in x 23in), so a replacement isn't even easy to find. Anyway, do y'all have an inexpensive recommendations? I honestly would like to just remove the paint, but I don't know what chemical would even do that.

Thanks!

Question About Citrius and Hibiscus in Pots

Hi all,

I have four potted citrus trees and two potted hibiscus trees that I inherited from my late mother. I've kept them alive fairly well for the past eight months, but I definitely can't say that they are thriving and the soil in the pots seems quite low (see the below photos). They have been getting watered regularly (which I know is important because I live in Central Texas), but I feel like I should be doing more. Should I be repotting them? Is there a way to add soil *without* repotting them? I don't want the soil going too far up the plant stem because I know that can vause issues.

I'm probably going to chat with the folks at a nearby nursery, but I thought I would check with everyone on here to see what y'all think. Thank you!

Possible Meniscus Injury While Dancing

Two weeks ago I was at a wedding and I think I gave myself a meniscus injury while dancing (I was repeatedly doing a series of sharp twirls/dips with a woman on the dance floor lol). It was a sharp pain in the moment when I twisted sideways, but then it felt a bit better after a few minutes. The next morning I could still walk on it, but it definitely hurt if i tried to twist it side-to-side and fully extending made the knee feel weird. A friend had a cloth compression knee brace, and I wore that for about a week. My guess was that it was a minor meniscus injury, but I know that even those can cause trouble.

Now I'm at two weeks out, and the knee is feeling a lot better. I'm still occasionally getting some pops when I fully extend it, and it does ache somewhat... but pain-wise it has improved. Besides my adventures at weddings, I'm not a super active person (I might run a couple miles every few weeks), so resting it has been fairly easy. The only thing I have done that was vaguely strenuous was mow the lawn, but it was only a 1/4 acre lot, so that wasn't too intense either.

So my question is... Should I make an appointment to go in, or just take a wait and see approach? I'm not in any hurry to return to a sport and I am not dying to get an MRI, so I'm inclined to just wait and see where it goes and continue resting it. Let me know what y'all think!

Thanks!

Hi, I switched to Thunderbird about 6 months ago, and in general I am a huge fan. I have one major pet peeve though... When I look at an email account, the "unread messages" count will check every single folder in the account. For example, I have an email account with 6 unread messages, but those unread messages show up in the "Inbox" folder, the "All Mail" folder, and the "Important" folder. So the count ends up showing that I have 18 unread messages (3x6). Is there *any* way to just pick the folder that the count comes from instead of all folders with an 'unread' count being added together? I feel like this is such an obvious feature, and yet I can't find it anywhere. Also, I am using Thunderbird 140.10.0esr (64-bit) in Linux Mint.

I have included an image to illustrate what I'm talking about. Thank you!!
