New Bridget and Mary Jo VOD: CIRCLE OF FRIENDS

Maggie is a New York fashion designer who returns to her small town for a friend’s funeral.

She reconnects with several of her classmates and discovers they are woefully un-chic. Not to mention that several of their classmates have died under mysterious circumstances, and in short order, including the funeral recipient.

When Maggie herself becomes a target, nothing will stop her from finding out the killer’s identity—not even pretzels or hooking up with her new/old boyfriend.

New VOD: DEMONWARP (1988)

A peaceful weekend at a cabin in the woods is interrupted when a lumbering, grunting, brute of a creature arrives. And then right after George Kennedy shows up, he gets attacked by Bigfoot!

Yes, some sort of Ape Type Thing* is roaming the forest ripping off both electronics equipment and heads. The loss of the electronics may affect some local idiots ability’ to record an album more than the loss of their heads does. What does a sasquatch want with a vintage tube amp? Do cryptids possess the same tendencies as humans where they hit their 40s, and all of a sudden need to drop five figures on a stereo system to appreciate the production on Aja? And which would be more loathsome, that or the decapitating?

Look, we could tell you why he wants it, but A) it sounds so preposterous that you’d just think we made it up, and B) we’ve seen it a dozen times and are still not certain it’s real. There’s a decent chance someone just spliced a different movie onto the last fifteen minutes of this one. Or maybe they passed the script around The Naked Clone style and the last person just decided to go off the rails. And if your Bigfoot/George Kennedy movie is gonna go off the rails, who better to have with you than Mike, Kevin, and Bill?

New Short - Water Safety: An Introduction

Are you keeping your water safe? When water is in a glass, it can be easily spilled. When water is frozen, it can break into hundreds of tiny pieces if dropped. When water becomes steam, it can simply float away, never to be seen again. In our new short Water Safety: An Introduction, you’ll learn how to… wait, sorry, that might not be what this short is actually about. Sorry for the confusion. Let’s start this over again.

Water Safety: An Introduction is a film from the classic genre of child endangerment. Whether playing on a broken bridge, taking a raft out alone, or trying to swim across large bodies of water, these kids will do anything to make the viewer wonder “Is this short really dark enough to go there?” And also, “Why doesn’t the dad on this little sailboat give his kid a freaking life jacket? If he’s not careful he might get pulled over by the lake police and have to pay an inexpensive fine!”

The good news is you don’t need any familiarity with water safety to follow the plot, as it is, after all, An Introduction. If you survive your first few encounters with water, you can graduate to a more advanced film on the subject.

Put on a Gore-Tex slicker and hold tight to the nearest railing as you join Mike, Kevin and Bill for the crucial wet lessons of Water Safety: An Introduction!

New arrival - Mona Lisa

After The Long Good Friday I was craving more of Bob Hoskins in a British crime movie, so I was delighted when this was announced by Arrow.

Orbit delivery day

I’m really glad that 88 Films is starting to release older Golden Harvest films and giving them their own attention. I love Shaw but I’ve always been more of a GH person if I’m being totally honest.

Mona Lisa is a blind buy based on how much I enjoyed The Long Good Friday.

Point Blank is a long delayed upgrade from standard dvd. I’m glad that I dragged my feet long enough for it to come out on 4k.

It’s awesome to have all of the cuts of The Protector in 4K. Definitely not the best Jackie Chan movie but a very solid action movie from the 80s.

Throw Momma From The Train is a classic and I’m glad that I held out getting the BluRay for so long, lol.

Forbidden City was a blind buy and is fucking awesome. Great fight scenes and great performances in the more dramatic scenes. Also gorgeous with Dolby Vision.

Haven’t watched Danger Diabolik yet but I have seen the MST3K version and I dug the movie itself enough to pick it up.

Finally got around to watching this. My dad is a huge fan of this movie so he took my brother and I to see the remake in 2009 and that kind of put me off from wanting to check out the original.

I'm very sorry that it took me so long because this movie is awesome. Great atmosphere, great performances, great score, and it holds up incredibly well. Highlights for me included the transit employee who was just trying to do his job by keeping the trains running and stood up for his buddy. The grit and grime of the NYC subway that they captured perfectly. And that ending. *chef kiss*

I watched the Kino Lorber 4K on an OLED with Dolby Vision and it is a gorgeous transfer.

Highly highly recommended - both the format and the film itself. I gave this a 4.5 on Letterboxd.

Edit: It also has an all-timer of a poster.
