Cape Air to Boston

How is it? I got an insane one-way quote for car service thinking it would be relatively ok. Nope. $866. But I can take Cape Air one-way for $109 from Leb. From folks who have flown this route, how is it?

Edit and post update (Friday, June 19): thank you to all who suggested Dartmouth Coach. That will be the go-to next time. I ended up taking Cape Air this morning. On-time departure from Leb and early arrival in Boston. I had a lot of fun on the plane. What a view of our beautiful area. Have a great weekend everyone!

2011 Trail Teams - Rear Diff Question

I have two FJs and considering a third, TT edition. For the rear differential, left side, is this area circled in photo 1 a repair of the rear sway bar to diff connection or was this a TT standard connection? My ‘07 and ‘11 models (not TT) don’t have this. The frame overall looks good. It’s just this area I’m unsure about. Thanks

Mmm. Yummy gear day.

Continuing some setup today and new gear just arrived. Opted for both a DW9000 single and 9002 double pedal for some flexibility beyond this setup. Kinda wish DW made a legless HH pedal but i’ll make it through this first-world problem. Any legless HH pedal recs?

I still laugh at the ridiculousness of that 8” power tom. BOING-waaaahhhh. Needs some tuning love. Play and have fun folks!

Yesterday’s vintage score

I didn’t realize I needed this. And now I have it. Near mint. The artwork is amazing.

Setup in progress

Finally pulled these from storage and started the setup. Still have adjustments to make, cymbal additions and am waiting on new pedals to arrive next week. Then I’ll be able to dial it in. Just having some fun.

Mid-80s Ludwig Rocker in fury red with Chicago-era 6-ply maple shells (same shells as the Classic Maple kits). 8-10-12-13-16 toms and 22” BDs. Snare is an Artisan Drumworks copper 6x14.

LHR to JFK today. The pajama guy, he boards in London, changes into his jammies and gives his clothes to “the staff.” He’s also the “talk into Siri to help me get through customs faster” guy…ever hear of headphones!? Then he fucking complains because we’re early at JFK and the gate is still occupied. Yeah. Life is rough pajama guy. Go huff n puff down the jetway. DOUCHEY McJAMAMAN needs to chill.

This is not my kit. I am not an endorser or connected to DW/Slingerland in any way. Just a lover of the vintage (and modern) drums.

I was randomly in Tin Pan Alley London today (in London from the states) and happened upon the Roland store. The drum shop in the basement (locked, need an escort) is a full DW retail showroom. This blue duco Slingerland kit is on display and I had a chance to play it and talk with the store’s lead DW rep, Jay. We spent about an hour reviewing the kit, shell construction, tuning range, demoing it. I was super impressed with the drum’s punchy throatiness and deep tuning range. Beautiful mahogany shells. It’s a 13, 16, 18, 24 config in the showroom. The toms can throw a deep tone with a great attack and the 18” FT sounded massive. The drums were tuned perfectly and there was no need for any external dampening (there’s internal tone control).

I learned that the hardware is designed to be able to be retrofitted on vintage Slingerland, a great design option for us vintage guys looking for parts/upgrades. If I was in the market, the new Slingerland would be at the top of my list. DW has taken an iconic vintage brand and given it the modern technical and build-quality investments it deserves.

I was skeptical when I heard about Slingerland returning. From first looks and sounds, DW is doing it right IMHO. If you have the budget, don’t write this off your list.
