How To Help Feral Kittens?

Thanks to some incompetent (I have other words for them that I will refrain from using for the moment) pet owners up here in Timberline who not only let their cats roam everywhere but decline to get them spayed or neutered, we have 4 or 5 feral kittens in the area.

Does HIgh Country Humane or any other organization do anything in these scenarios? These cats are quite flighty and feral and I suspect would be pretty hard to catch. Not sure how much or how they are getting fed. Don't want them to suffer but also don't want to create a local population explosion which would deploy even more suffering. Plus, winter is coming.

Any suggestions?

Why Add Fuel Treatment To A Near Empty Tank?

It seems common for instructions for fuel treatments like fuel injection cleaners etc to say to add the treatment to a near empty tank, and then fill the tank with gas. How is that different than just adding the fuel treatment to an alreay full tank? It seems like either way the fuel treatment would get thoroughly mixed into the fuel as soon as you drove a few yards, took a corner or two and hit a bump or two.

Is Tipping An Insult?

Context: spouse had hip replacement surgery a few weeks ago. Medicare has covered 2 visits per week to our home by a physical therapist who has been quite pleasant, professional, and effective at enhancing my spouse's recovery.

The therapist has listened well (sadly rare in our health care experiences) and has "customized" the exercises and therapy modes for my spouse's specific condition and needs on a given day.

The therapist's last visit is coming up soon. I have proposed giving them a tip at the end of their last visit and thanking them for their help. My spouse is adamant that is NOT ok and that doing so would be an insult.

What say you all?

After-Service Minimums Before Driving Away

Recent post here AGAIN about having an oil change done badly by the dealer and having oil drain out while driving. AGAIN having to go through concerns about "is my engine toast?" "what can I do to make my dealer responsible if my engine blows / should I demand a new engine" hassle cascades.

NEW RULES: (well actually decades old for me, but apparently not for some of you young whippersnappers):

BEFORE LEAVING THE PARKING LOT OF WHEREVER YOU HAD SERVICE DONE THAT MAY HAVE INVOLVED ANY FLUID:

1. Check oil level, coolant level, transmission fluid levels, and brake fluid levels.*

2. Even if levels are initially ok, drive a few blocks until engine is warmed up, pull over, take a look at the engine, and look under it for any signs of leaks. When it doubt, turn off engine, wait a few minutes and check oil level again.

3. If they touched your tires and/or you just got new ones, check tire pressures. If offset sizes, make sure the bigger ones are on the correct end of the vehicle. If they are unidirectional tires, make sure they are installed so that they rotate as intended by the manufacturer.

4. If they touched your tires and/or you just got new ones, get your lug wrench out and check to be sure all lug bolts are tight.

*Yes I know oil level check is easy and other fluids are sometimes not. Basic message is check levels of any fluids they may have touched ASAP and in their parking lot if at all possible.

Yes this is a pain in the ass and you should be able to trust nominal "professionals". Otoh, blowing your engine or transmission up, or having a wheel fall off is an even bigger pain in the ass.

Which Laundry Soap Is Safest For Plants?

Our laundry water drains into a grey water system. We use that water to water landscape plants and trees that we care about (but not on garden/food plants).

We've been using 7th Generation Free & Clear and are revisiting our choice since we just got a new washer that has info with it such that it "MUST" use "HE" soap only.

We are... skeptical about that, 7th Generation claims to be "HE compatible" or something, and we don't use much soap in any case.

What say you all? What is our best option that is both ok for the washer and safest for plants?

Leaf Spring Quandry: Stock '99 4WD Extended Cab V6 AT w/ aluminum shell.

Scenario: Truck is stock. Don't need and do not want any sort of lift beyond OG OEM stock.

Use case is 95% street, occassional pulling a trailer, sometimes with a load in the back in addition to the shell but rarely if ever at max stock limits.

Had leaf springs and associated hardware replaced with a nominal stock equivalent General Springs set plus new Bilstein 4600's about 3 years ago. (I like them better than the 5100s).

The leaf springs more or less maintained their shape behind the rear axle, but the section in front has sagged badly on both sides. No more General Springs for me. All other manufacturerers assume you want a lift or are carrying gold bars.

I'm considering getting OEM Toyota leaf springs even though they are way exorbitantly priced. In doing some related research I tripped over this site:

https://adventuretaco.com/guide/replacing-leaf-springs-on-a-tacoma/

Can anyone verify their info regarding double cab springs having a higher spring rate than single cab or extended cab ones? They say the following and based on this I am considering getting the leaf springs for the DoubleCab w/TRD.

"

  1. (One option is to) Purchase new leaf springs from Toyota. These are expensive, but are the "truest" direct replacement. Part numbers are as follows:
    • 95-97 - R: 48210-04053 | L: 48220-04060
    • 98-04
      • SingleCab or XtraCab: R: 48210-04340 | L: 48210-04340
      • DoubleCab (w/o TRD): R: 48210-04330 | L: 48220-04130 (higher spring rate than XtraCab)
      • DoubleCab (w/ TRD): R: 48210-04360 | L: 48220-04150 (higher spring rate than DoubleCab w/o TRD)"

Pretty much the title. Mail in ballots have apparently been sent to city residents. Here is what the ballot looks like per an email from the city.

"This ballot asks voters in the City of Flagstaff to vote on whether to ratify or not ratify the Flagstaff Regional Land Use Plan 2045. Return your ballot by 7pm on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. The special election is a vote-by-mail only election. There are no polling places on election day."
