Does This Mycelium Look Contaminated?

Title: Does This Mycelium Look Contaminated?

Hey everyone,

I’m not trying to identify mushroom species (Copelandia) or anything like that — I just want to know whether this mycelium looks healthy or contaminated.

Some people told me it could be cobweb mold, while others think it just looks like fluffy mycelium with fuzzy feet caused by high humidity / low fresh air exchange.

During the first flush, a lot of spores dropped from the caps and the mushrooms turned dark/black afterwards, so I’m wondering if the grayish appearance could simply be spore staining instead of contamination.

Does this look contaminated to you or still healthy?

Second flush of Copelandia grow kit — normal or contamination?

Hey everyone,

I’m growing Copelandia mushrooms from a grow kit and this is now the second flush. I’m a bit unsure if everything still looks normal or if there could be contamination starting.

The color and texture seem a little different compared to the first flush, but maybe that’s completely normal for later flushes?

What do you think? Does this still look healthy or contaminated?

Need Help – McCanny Grow Kits Showing No Growth After 1.5 Weeks

Hey everyone,

I’m having trouble with two McKennaii grow kits and I’m not sure if I did something wrong.

I followed the instructions exactly:
- soaked the kits in water for about 12 hours
- drained the water afterward
- then placed the kits inside the grow bags with around 150 ml of water

It has now been around 1.5 weeks and absolutely nothing is happening. No pins, no mushroom growth, and the kits still look exactly the same as on day one.

I’ll attach pictures. Does anyone know what could be wrong or what I should do next?

Thanks!

Copelandia Grow Kit – Harvest Now or Let Them Grow Longer?

Hey everyone,

I have a Copelandia grow kit and I’m not sure about the current flush / the second half of my first flush.

The mushrooms are already getting pretty big and some of the caps are starting to open. I want to avoid them dropping spores. At the same time, I can already see new small pins/mushrooms starting to grow at the bottom.

So I’m wondering:
Should I harvest the bigger ones now and then mist/rehydrate the kit afterwards? Or should I let them keep growing a bit longer?

Would really appreciate your advice 🙂

Copelandia mushrooms turned very black after spore drop during drying — still safe to consume?

Hey guys, I had my first flush from a Copelandia grow kit. Some mushrooms grew much faster than the others, and unfortunately I waited too long before harvesting. One of the bigger mushrooms dropped spores all over the smaller ones.

Now the mushrooms that got covered in spores are turning extremely dark/black while drying. The black stuff was definitely at least partly spores — I tested it carefully with a cotton swab and water mixed with a little lemon juice, and some of it wiped off.

My question is: is this normal after heavy spore drop, and are these mushrooms still safe to consume? They are from the exact same flush as the others, just much darker now during drying.

Thanks 🙏

Copelandia grow kit: harvest all remaining mushrooms now or wait? + how to trigger second flush?

Hey guys,
I’m growing Copelandia with a grow kit and I just finished harvesting part of my first flush. The problem is that half of the mushrooms grew much faster and bigger than the others, so I had to harvest many of them earlier while the smaller ones are still growing.

Now I’m wondering:
Should I harvest everything at once now, including the smaller ones, or should I let them continue growing a bit longer?

And after the first flush is fully harvested, what’s the best way to trigger the second flush? Dunk and rehydrate like cubes, or is there a different method for Copelandia?

Thanks :)

Copelandia caps turned completely black — spores or contamination?

Hey guys,

I grew some Copelandia (Panaeolus cyanescens) mushrooms and the caps turned almost completely black after maturing. I’m unsure if this is just heavy spore discoloration or if it could be contamination/rot.

The mushrooms don’t smell especially bad, but the dark color worries me. Are these still safe to consume or should I throw them away?

I attached pictures for reference. Any experienced growers here who can tell the difference between normal spore coverage and contamination?

Thanks!

First Copelandia Flush — Harvest Only Mature Ones or Entire Flush?

Hey everyone,

I need some advice about my first Copelandia flush 😅

A few mushrooms (around 3–4) already look fully grown, while some are medium-sized and a lot are still just pins. I’m not sure what the best move is now:

- Should I harvest only the mature ones?
- Or should I harvest the entire flush at once?
- Should I wait longer for the smaller ones?
- And is it true that for the next flush you should harvest everything, even the small pins?

I also noticed a white fuzzy growth climbing up the stems from the surface/substrate. Is that normal? Is it just fuzzy feet/mycelium, or could it be contamination?

I attached some pictures. I’d really appreciate your opinions/advice 🙏
