It's done! Trak Racer TR80S-B is great!

~3 months into this money pit that is sim racing, and my "permanent" build is done

- Trak Racer TR80S-B (revision from April 26): despite all complaints I read here, the pricing difference was so big between Trak Racer (local Australian stock) vs Sim Lab and Next Level Racing, that I couldn't justify paying 2x for a similar rig. To my surprise, all complaints regarding this model - unlabeled screws, poor finishing, missing pieces, no cable management clips, wheelbase plate with movement - everything has been fixed on this revision. Instructions, quality, everything perfectly labeled and a ton of extra stuff, made my first build go really smoothly. I've modded it btw, remove the pedal adjustment bits and used them to built my shifter mount.

- Hyundai i30 / Elantra N line driver's seat with 16,000 km before car was totaled. Basically just bolted on, except for 2 metal pins of 2cm each that needed cutting.

- Simagic Alpha Evo 12nm: carry on, works great. Behold my 10 dollars side mount mod. Does anyone know how to disable ABS/TC effects on the wheelbase alone? With pedals/haptics I don't want the steering wheel vibrating when ABS kicks in...

- Simsonn Plus X pedals and Vam Pro haptics: a bargain

- GX100 shifter: heavy, noisy, clunky, perfect to emulate my real WRX shifter. Love it.

- PXN GT One steering wheel with included Simagic compatible quick release, bargain. Additional 37cm leather steering wheel still being shipped.

- Old 75" TCL TV at 4k@120Hz RGB Full, 62 FOV on AC and ACC. No curve, but more horizontal real estate than a 57" ultrawide. Love it.

- cheap Vevor TV mobile stand, without wheels and with legs chopped by 10cm.

Behold my 10 AUD side mount

65 + 15 AUD shipping for the official Simagic one in Australia? Nah, these 10 dollars ones did the trick.

Off topic - does anyone know how to disable ABS/TC effects on the Alpha Evo wheelbase? I have pedals with haptics now and don't want the steering wheel vibrating together when ABS kicks in. Couldn't find anything specific on the main Simagic software.

For the guys taking their VB to autocross / rallycross / low speed rally - what level of paint / car damage can I expect doing this sort of racing?

26 VB in pristine condition, considering taking it to paved and dirt tracks... how dumb am I?

the heart is willing but the paint is weak

Alpha Evo sound when turning...?

this started yesterday, base is just 3 weeks old

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gxC7-8qR_dI2LnIzi5wAR7jHMUJ3Bqdp/view?usp=sharing

then after powering off and on again, it stopped moving smoothly and would instead move in big motions like 30 degrees every time I turned, and if I tried to move between these turn it would jerk back... another power cycle and this stopped happening

downgraded to firmware 2.3.4 and it's feeling better to drive but the new noise is still there

is this cooked?

Subaru VB WRX 2022 - advanced physics using an STI 14 shell

Link

I've been working on this mod for a few weeks, and I believe it's pretty good now. The goal was creating the most faithful representation of the 22 VB WRX in game, as I have the car and wanted to practice using my sim rig :)

While it uses a RHD Japanese STI 14 on the graphics side, the physics side was re-done from scratch using Subaru data, Cobb dyno results, some GT86 Kunos data, and some valuable help from Claude in extended mode.

If you find anything incorrect or worth improving, please do let me know.

the best stand for low budget beginners

Like many of you, I've just started sim racing and, while tempted on going ahead and buying all the cool gear, I wanted to start slow to see whether this becomes a long term hobby or not...

After extensive research, I was set on the NRL Wheel Stand 2.0, but it's too expensive (for what it is) here in Australia, 350 AUD. A few days of googling and I found this Vevor clone (called: VEVOR Racing Wheel Stand, Adjustable & Foldable Simulator Stand for Logitech G923 G920 G29 G27, Thrustmaster T300RS TX F458 T500RS T3PA-PRO(F1/GT) Gaming Cockpit), it has been excellent.

Not only it is super sturdy (it hasn't flexed on my 12nm Simagic Alpha Evo yet), but it is super adjustable, so both wife 159cm and myself at 183cm (6 foot) can drive comfortably.

The only flex I noticed was when braking at over 25kg with the Simsonn Plus X, and to fix that I just added to pieces of wood, around 10x10cm, screwed directly to the pre drilled holes in the base plate, that alone was enough to stop any localized flexing.

Oh, this thing cost me ~100 USD.

VB WRX Assetto Corsa mod

As I could not find a good (physics) mod for our car, I've been working on a mod myself for the past few days and decided it was worth sharing. If you are new to sim racing and the game, you just need to download Content Manager, then go Settings > Install from file.

As it's obvious, my goal was not a graphical mod - there are good ones out there for that (Kem Alkemest, paywalled), instead I wanted the most faithful representation of our car in terms of mechanics and feel in stock form. I've chosen the Project G 1999 WRX STI as the base since it's the best overall Subaru mod I was able to find. In short I've done the following:

- Replaced all car specs with factory data (tyres, wheelbase, gear ratio, weight, power, max RPM, etc.)

- Created a torque/power curve using dyno results from Cobb for 91 / stock

- Used the base game Kunos GT86 for the sound (same FA basic architecture), throttle response, and electronics (ABS and Traction Control)

- Heavily used AI (Claude/Gemini in Extended mode) to validate changes

- The overall suspension was re-done from scratch by Claude-Sonnet 5 in extended mode. If anyone has the geometry details for the car we could rework this.

I'm still getting my account on assetoworld sorted, so in the meantime you can use this link

This has been my first (heavy) effort, so please let me know if you find anything wrong or worth improving.
