Wireless & Telecom Channel Plus RF Engineering Calculators

Hello fellow engineers,
I launched a YouTube channel about two weeks ago focusing on practical RF knowledge—covering the RF & Telecom fundamentals, real-world scenarios, and field experience I’ve gained working with clients over the years.
You’ll find clear explanations and hands-on insights on topics including LTE, 5G, spectrum analyzer measurements, drive testing, Fiber Optics, DAS, Microwave, and much more. My goal is to build a reliable RF resource library that supports working professionals, technicians, and anyone looking to deepen their understanding of the RF world. I believe in knowledge sharing.
I plan to post a new video every week. I am up at 12 videos now. I’d really appreciate your support in helping me propel in this domain. Please support me by subscribing, liking, and sharing with your colleagues who might benefit.
Here’s the channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmzllEtJmLgLp7PryH8KgEw

On the other hand, I have been developing interactive RF Calculators on the side: Fresnel Zone, InterModulation, Free Space Pathloss, and 4G Throughput Calculator. Next is 5G throughput calculator. Here is the link: https://mohamadhaidar.com/rf-calculators/

Thanks in advance for the support. I am happy to connect and discuss ideas.

Astro P25 and Conventional Talk-in / Talk-out Testing

hi Redditors,

I have a question regarding Astro P25 Trunked and Conventional 800 MHz.. I am being asked to perform BER and RSSI testing on the talk in and talk out. it is a Motorola system. I’m not an expert in the field.

how do you preform the tests?

my understanding is that is rent a PCTEL IBFlex scanner and drive around the tiles measuring the BER and RSSI after configuring the simulacra repeaters to transmit a 1011 hz pattern, right? then record all measurements on the scanner and post process them.

what about the talk in test? is there a way we can program the Motorola portable to transmit the pattern back to the RPTR and measure BER and RSSI?

my rational thinking tells me that only fixed locations will be tested for talk in based on reverse link budget deduced from the talk out. or is there an equipment that can be rented to continuously key in (transmit back to the repeater)?

same question for the conventional radio as well, except that there will no BER but only SSI measurements.

any guidance in that regards is greatly appreciated.

thank you

RSSI vs. RSRP: Do you know the difference?

These two metrics are among the most commonly used measurements in wireless communications, yet they are often misunderstood or used interchangeably.

I created my own YouTube video to explain the difference in a simple conference room analogy.

If you've ever performed RF troubleshooting, drive testing, coverage analysis, or network optimization, this topic is fundamental. Let me know your thoughts and make sure you check my other videos and subscribe for more videos.

What exactly is bandwidth—and why does it matter?

I recently created a short video that explains one of the most fundamental concepts in telecommunications and networking: bandwidth.
In less than 2 minutes, the video covers:
✅ What bandwidth really means
✅ How it relates to data-carrying capacity
✅ Why higher bandwidth enables more simultaneous data transmission
✅ A simple highway analogy that makes the concept easy to visualize
Whether you're new to telecommunications, networking, wireless communications, or simply looking for a quick refresher, this video breaks down the topic in a straightforward and easy-to-understand way.

Engineering Motivation

hi,

Im just curious to learn how everyone’s choice to pursue engineering came to fruition. is that something you wanted to pursue since your youth? Did your parents influence your choice? are you liking it as you pursue it now?

please state your discipline when you’re answering: electrical, civil, computer, mechanical…

thank you 🙏🏻
