BYS

I’ve been on BYS’ PR list for 5 years now as a consumer (I’m not an influencer and I’m not paid). Some of it is garbage, and I’ve also found some amazing hidden gems!

If anyone is thinking of a purchase, let me know and I’ll tell you if it’s good or not!

Lost my dog today, here’s a wintery look

It’s a cold & rainy July here. I’ve just had surgery to remove my wisdom tooth and we had to put our lovely boy to sleep today. So here’s a look I did to represent winter, beauty, and also melancholy. List of products in the end photo.

Experiences at Adelaide Tooth Removals (Windsor Gardens)

I’m in my late 20s having my first wisdom tooth removal, and my first surgery on Wednesday. Can I ask what your experience was like going here if you’ve been? They have to surgically extract it and cut into my gums. I’m very nervous at the dentist but can’t afford any anything but a local anaesthetic on my disability pension. So I’m very desperate to get this tooth out so I can go back to my work (I work for myself), but I’m also very nervous 🥹

Recs for green colour corrector

Either a primer or a concealer. We use Dermacolour at my campus but I’d like to have one in my kit. I don’t really have redness myself, so I don’t own one. I’d prefer drugstore, but as long as it works and I can easily depot it.

MUAs: Recs for green colour corrector

Either a primer or a concealer. We use Dermacolour at my campus but I’d like to have one in my kit. I don’t really have redness myself, so I don’t own one. I’m not bothered if it’s drugstore or high end, as long as it works and I can easily depot it.

My hot takes as a pro mua

Any of these you agree with or disagree with? These may not be hot takes at all but they are to me 😂

  1. Yes, there are drugstore products in my kit. I’ve got $15 foundations lasting 16 hours with the right prep. I’d rather have products that I know work than fill my kit with high-end products I haven’t properly tested.

  2. I don’t do bridal makeup. I don’t know if I ever will! The market already has so many beautiful and talented artists specialising in weddings. I’d rather stay in my colourful, creative lane.

  3. I won’t do something that I know I can’t do. I’m not taking your hard-earned money if I know I’m going to do a half-assed job. If I’m not confident I can give you a great result, I’ll tell you.

  4. I’m firm on my pricing. I won’t overcharge you, but I won’t undersell myself either. I charge according to my skills, products, time, and experience. If you’re looking for someone cheaper, that’s completely okay.

  5. I tailor the skin prep to every client. I have a variety of skincare and primers because every skin is different. What works for one person won’t necessarily work for another.

  6. I read every situation and decide how I should act. If you open up about your trauma, I’ll share too. If you swear, I’ll swear too. If you want to chat the whole appointment, we can do that. If you want a bit of quiet, we can have quiet. The makeup matters, but so does the experience.

Gold pigmented highlighter?

Looking for recs on a very high shine beaming from space golden highlighter that doesn’t come up as an icy metallic. Nothing white-gold either.

I’ve tried the balm Mary-Lou, Maybelline master chrome, and I didn’t like either.

I love my benefit cookie highlighter but I want something a bit more golden and warm toned sometimes. I do love the rare beauty highlighters but I haven’t tried the gold one from them yet.

I don’t mind if it’s a bit glittery as long as I can get my golden stripe out of it 😂

For funsies…

Show me your oldest photos when you started doing makeup.

Embarrassing? A little.

Evidence of growth? Absolutely.

Omg I was so proud of those brows too 😂😭 They need their own postcode! Thankfully my eyebrows are microbladed now with *some* original hair remaining 😂

These photos are very 2017 of me 😂😂 Current makeup photo at the end.

Icy blue & purple look

LIST OF PRODUCTS IN LAST PHOTO

I’ve been feeling a bit bored of makeup lately. I used to love creating but using lashes, cleaning my brushes, washing it off etc all seems like big chores that it’s putting me off. And tbh this is one of the only looks I’ve liked doing this year so far

The best red shimmer

List of products used on last photo. I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever seen a red shimmer perform like this before. Usually red metallics either end up patchy, too dark, gritty, or they lose that vibrant “true red” effect once they hit the eyes. But this formula is INSANE. It’s incredibly smooth, ridiculously pigmented, and has that almost molten foiled finish that makes it look wet under lighting.

What really surprised me is how dimensional it is. A lot of red shimmers can lean pink, burgundy, or copper depending on the angle, but this stays strikingly red while still catching the light beautifully. It has that rich crimson sparkle without looking chunky or textured on the lid.

I also expected fallout because shades this intense usually come with a trade-off, but the formula feels so refined and almost creamy. It picks up effortlessly with both a brush and fingertip, and it gives full opacity so quickly. Honestly one swipe was enough.

As someone who’s obsessed with dramatic eye looks and has tried a LOT of red shadows over the years, this is probably the most impressive red foiled shimmer I’ve used. It looks like liquid metal on the eyes. Absolutely stunning.

▲ 22 r/xena

ah yes, the warrior princess is pinwheeling again

The iconic Xena move where she somehow suspends herself sideways in the air long enough to bicycle-kick eight men in a circle

I love it

Local workshop

I’m a qualified makeup artist and I’m donating my time to a local women’s shelter. I want to put on a demonstration/workshop for a small group. Easy 5 minute everyday makeup that makes them feel put together and beautiful. I want to give away a small makeup kit with brand new supplies that they can keep. I can get most in bulk with a trade discount, but I wanted to ask if anyone had recommendations for mini/travel sized:

Mascara

Lip balm

Lip gloss

I’m also putting in sample sizes of foundation and concealer. Can anyone also recommend affordable foundation that I can depot (liquid formula) with a good shade range and suitable for all skin types? I was looking at L’Oréal true match or the new NYX one.

DB Cosmetics Luminous Hydrating Foundation. Medium buildable coverage with a dewy finish. It has the most stunning coverage and finish for $25.

P.s. I know this shade isn’t my best, so I don’t wear it too often.

Edit: the eyeshadow is the tainted palette by Jolie Beauty.

PRODUCT LISTING AT THE END OF THE PHOTOS.

I personally don’t know if I love the colouring. I went for the wrong purple, but I had this idea in my head to do a graphic ombré eye with black incorporated somehow and a very very concealer lip shade. I still love it but I don’t think it’s my best work.

This doesn’t mean they don’t have solo hits, I mean that their features are more what the general population recognises. For me, it’s Bebe Rexha, Tove Lo and Mabel.

PRODUCT LISTING IN THE PHOTOS.

I decided to go out of my comfort zone a bit. I don’t really like green on me but here it is! I tried 😂 did I hit 200 words yet? Yeah so the full list of products is on the last photo.
