Choosing a Host family

Hello,

I am currently in a difficult situation. I’m an au pair in Australia right now and looking for my next host family.

I found a great family in Miami in the US but at the same time my plan originally was to go to Spain and then to France as an au pair to perfect my Spanish (I studied Spanish in school for a long time) and better my French.

I really want to use my gap year to work on myself and make new experiences, so being an au pair in Spain and France would help me learn the languages and make me fluent in four languages total. However I also really want to go to Miami since I believe it’s kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity to live there since otherwise I don’t think I will ever have the chance to.

But also important to note is that going to the us I going to cost me a lot of money for the agency and in Europe I could do it for free without agency since I’m a member of the European Union.

Edit: Probably should have mentioned but another important aspect is that the Miami family pays significantly more than Spanish family’s and I would only have one older girl there instead of multiple younger ones

What should I do? What would you all do in my situation?

Thank you for the advice 🤗

Au Pair in Spanish speaking country

Hey everybody,

Im currently an au pair in Australia but I’m looking to become an au pair in a Spanish speaking country since I learned Spanish in school for 6 year but never really spoke it on a daily basis. So therefore it would be good to better my Spanish and become fluent in it and I enjoy being an au pair so it would be ideal for me.

I would be able to go to a new host family next year starting end of January/ early February so I thought a Spanish speaking country in Latin America would make more sense since it’s summer there.

Is the au pair thing popular there? Does anybody have recommendations for a specific country? Where do I find host familys there? I would consider Spain as well but I’m kind of looking to go somewhere new I haven’t been and would love to go somewhere in South America.

GAP Year

Hello everybody,

I’m currently doing a gap year till September 2026 and I need some advice. I’m currently an au pair in Sydney until end of November but have no idea what to do after. I thought of doing like 1/2 months traveling and then staying somewhere and working.

Maybe like internships, assistant, language teacher (I’m German), working at Disney land, national parks or tour guide??
I would love to go more around Australia, Asia, Europe or North America.

Does anybody have any advice? What should I do? If you know any good jobs or internships near you that sound like they would be a good fit please tell me I am desperate.

I want to make this year fun and see and experience as much as possible so any advice is good to me!!

Au pair in NYC

Hi everyone,

So I’m currently an au pair in Sydney for 6 months and I’m thinking about going to nyc as an au pair after that.

How hard is it to find a family? 🤔
Which agency should I choose?
Is it easier for me to find a family because I already have experience as an au pair?

I’m currently just thinking about it and don’t have anything planned yet (the earliest I could start in New York City would be March next year so not that soon).
Therefore I’m not in a hurry and would just like somebody else’s opinion on how I should go about this the best! ☺️

Prices of skincare products

Hi everyone, 🤗

So I’m going to Australia next month for 10 months total and I was wondering what things I should buy there and what I should take from my home country.

Because if simple things like skincare products, hygiene products and shampoo are much more expensive in Australia, I would take more with me from my home and also the other way around.

So I’m asking about prices of skincare products, toiletries, hygiene articles and small things, not food or bigger stuff like that!

Thank you in advance! 🫶🏻
