8R or XIII for first time saga player

I've pretty much decided I'm either going to play the 8 remake or 13, but all of the posts talking about people's favorite romancing game are made prior to the 8PUK. Since it's release, have opinions changed concerning these two titles?

RPGs with needlessly complex and in depth sub systems

I am a huge fan of city builders and management games. I'm also a huge fan of RPGs. Combat isn't a huge priority for me, but story is. I especially enjoy RPGs when they have interesting characters or romance options (shouts out OG bioware).

I've played Rogue Trader and love it, but I bounced off Pathfinder WotR as hard as I possibly could despite my best efforts. I really do not like pf2e in crpg form apparently. Ni No Kuni II was a great game IMO, even if the kingdom management was a little so-so.

Basically, what are some good RPGs or JRPGs for somebody who likes Rimworld, Kenshi, The Guild, Mount and Blade, Paradox games, Mass effect, KOTOR, the witcher 3, E:33, and Final fantasy?

I accepted an ANT guild mission because it rewarded a 3* pilot seminar and for some reason I can't get the mission to progress. I've most certainly found 4* ore deposits in the location. I'm in a mineral miner and have the representative on board. What am I doing wrong? Is it glitched or do I need to do something different here?

Alumni Insurance Ad

Is this normal that Alumni programs send out advertisements? Im used to John Fry crookery and the general dogshit that is Drexel as an institution, but this seems gross to me.

We all play the same games, so what are some good ones that I am missing?

Every time I get bored and start to look up recommendations for games that scratch "the itch" I always find reddit posts recommending the same few games. Rimworld, Kenshi, Dwarf Fortress, Avorion, X4, HO:MM, Medieval Dynasty, songs of Syx, Bellwright, Aska, etc. etc. Having played most of these games now, what am I missing? What other titles do I need to complete the Kenshi/Rimworld one trick pokedex?

I really love colony sims/management games. Rimworld, Kenshi, and Bellwright; these are my bread and butter. But I also really like when other genres fold that into the game, even if there isn't tons of depth. MGS V, any Owlcat game, Ni no Kuni II for example.

I recently tried playing survival games alone for the first time, and it seems I've been missing out. I've played plenty with friends, but always being gated to "is this person online right now" or "I don't want to play, but my friends do, so I feel like I have to" is so nice.

I tried the soulmask release and it was fun but a bit too janky for me. Aska looks good but frankly I'm reading a lot of negative comments surrounding the colony sim aspect of the game. Most of those comments are a bit old so I'm hoping maybe things have gotten better. Windrose looks fantastic but the AI companion/worker system seems incredibly shallow. Mines of moria looks interesting but I heard the same complaints that Aska has. Are there any other games I should be looking at to scratch this itch? Is Aska in a good spot right now or should I wait?

TL;DR - Any game recommendations that have cool AI companion/colony systems like soulmask.
