Really appreciating the great work of so many colorists in SW comics

As I've been deep diving into the Star Wars comics world over the past months one thing I've realized is how much I love some of the super talented colorists. Since a lot of panels, for instance, take place in outer space, the incredible tones and colors and lighting that the colorists are able to achieve give me such a powerful sense of the sky, stars and planets in the background, or also the amazing atmospheres they are able to achieve in terms of making a planet come to life with the background elements, the characters' outfits, etc.

Just an appreciation post as I've just been appreciating the work that the colorists do for the comics. Feel free to share your favorite/s SW colorists as well!

Playing Carmen Sandiego on DOS on my parents' computer in the early 90s

I found a few Youtube videos of the game and it unlocked so many core memories. To this day, gotta credit Carmen Sandiego computer games and the TV show for some of my geography knowledge :)

Getting into aerial (hoop and silk) on the late side?

Very quick background: I'm in my late 30's and grew up as a kid/teen/young adult doing a lot of gymnastics, dance, yoga. I still feel relatively capable in a number of the skills but am definitely not as good as back when I was practicing regularly, I do daily strength training and exercise and don't own a car, so I'd say I get a lot of daily exercise. But, is it too late to get into aerials? There are some cool looking classes in my area I was thinking to try out and but I'm wondering if age-wise it's too crazy to get started now...?

Definitely wouldn't be worried about becoming advanced or anything like that per se, it would be just for the love of it, I've always been fascinated by aerial circus arts and it looks like so much fun.

Thoughts on Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The Rebellion Vol. 2?

I have this currently high on my "want to read" list and am curious to hear what folks think about the stories, artwork etc- is it one of the better Legends collections from the Rebellion era?

Also just to allay my personal potential confusion- none of it is collected in the Omnibus Rebellion Vol. 3, right?

Today is my 15th Postcrossing anniversary!

I got this nice email today when I woke up from Postcrossing :)

Today’s the day — it’s your Postcrossingversary! You joined Postcrossing 15 years ago, and we’re floating by with balloons and fanfare to celebrate this magical occasion.

Did you realize you’ve been teleporting joy across the globe with tiny rectangles of paper for 5479 days now? You’re a special kind of postal magician, and we hope you’ll keep enchanting mailboxes everywhere in the years to come!

 Postally yours,

The Postcrossing team

Reflecting on 15 years of the hobby, it's been really so wonderful. I appreciate the opportunity I've had to connect with people all over the world of all different ages and backgrounds. It's always a treat to have a Postcrossing card in my mailbox, and great that now our whole family can participate. I've even "recruited" a few friends to the hobby over the years.

I hope anyone new to it also has many wonderful years ahead <3

Thanks for the great cards this afternoon!

u/TheFeistyFox and u/Misty_Moonrider it was great to get your meetup card auf Deutsch :) loved the Neuschwanstein and stickers and I really appreciate your book recommendations (I also adore Anne of Green Gables)

u/No-Zebra-9339 So exciting to get the Sana Starros card with the stickers, I confess I am so jealous that you got to see the original films in the theater (I saw them as a kid when they were re-released in the 90s), I imagine the atmosphere was so much fun!

Is there a song out there that references more board games than "Man on the Moon" by REM?

In "Man on the Moon" the following games get mentioned in the lyrics: Game of Life, Monopoly, checkers, chess, Twister, Risk. Out of curiosity, is there another song out there that mentions more board games than this?

Worth sticking with NJO?

So I read through the first 3 books of NJO and while I liked certain elements of them so far I'm not totally sold on continuing on with the series. Some of the writing, especially the dialogue, is so clunky that it makes some of the more-well established characters challenging for me. That being said, I'm willing to be convinced- if other authors besides the first two I've encountered (R.A. Salvatore and Michael Stackpole) are particularly outstanding or if, say, books 4 and 5 are amazing, I'm open to keeping on the path.

▲ 12 r/Fencing

Is preschool age too young to start fencing?

Very quick background: my youngest kid is preschool age and for months now he is obsessed with sword/sabre dueling and observes footage really closely and then reenacts a lot of what he sees and honestly does a good job of it. I don't know much about fencing personally, but I showed him some Olympic fencing footage and he was really captivated by the sport and said he would love to do this.

As someone who has no background in fencing, is preschool age way too young to start with some basic classes- is it better to wait another couple of years to try? Definitely in no rush to put him in classes or anything at all, just curious since he's so interested in it.

Are there any current studies worldwide exploring potential genetics/gene variants for hip dysplasia, just out of curiosity?

My husband's family has a super high tendency of hip dysplasia (he has it himself, all of his female first cousins had it, all of their daughters had it, our middle child had a minor case of infant DDH at birth as well, it's possible my FIL also might have had it his whole life too though he's never gotten officially tested)- I was just curious if there's any ongoing scientific studies exploring potential genetic variants or abnormalities that might help to explain why it runs so heavily in some families?

Thoughts on Out of the Darkness (Segura)?

So I have to admit I was pretty disappointed overall with Battle of Jakku, which is giving me a lot of pause about Out of the Darkness. For those who have read both, is it worth continuing on with Out of the Darkness (particularly if you were also not a huge fan of Battle of Jakku) in regards to storylines, art, etc. or if I wasn't enamored with Battle of Jakku, Out of the Darkness will probably not be up my alley either?

Just for fun, I'm trying to find some instances of fiction- novels or short stories- where a character is either shown to be reading a specific Christie mystery or discussing one with another character.

I got my DXA scan about 10 months ago at this point where I got my osteopenia diagnosis. I'm in my 30's and since the diagnosis I've been making a big concerted effort in terms of strength training (doing it daily in terms of reps for 15-20 minutes), added in some bone health exercises like squat jumps, got my vitamin levels checked, have been taking collagen peptides for a little over a year now and other things of that nature and am curious if maybe my scores will have improved. Has anyone tried to take similar measures and had a DXA scan show improvement after about a year?

My oldest is turning 10 soon and his favorite Star Wars movies are Episodes I and II, and he would love books either fiction or nonfiction relating to those movies. Besides the novelizations and the Star Wars Journals (I read those as a kid myself, the Anakin and Amidala books) are there any other TPM and AoC books or comics to recommend for that age? He's a pretty good reader in terms of reading level.

In general, it's an entertaining autobiography, Peggy Guggenheim was an absolute character. She does incorrectly play on the Ismay myth briefly in her autobiography, blaming him- as well Captain Smith- for going too fast.
