A guy nearly hit my car while forcing his way into the drive-thru line, so I made sure he got one last message on my way out
Last week I was getting Taco Bell with my younger cousin after seeing Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It was almost 1 a.m. and, embarrassingly, this was actually my first time going through a drive-thru behind the wheel.
There was already a line of cars, with everyone just sitting there waiting their turn, when this guy came in from the parking lot on my left.
He had arrived after all of us. All he had to do was drive around the parking lot, which would’ve taken maybe two minutes, and get in line behind me like everyone else.
Apparently two minutes was too much.
As the car in front of me started moving up, this guy came through the parking lot and tried to cut into the line. Then a gap opened up between my car and the car ahead of me, and he immediately started squeezing his car into it.
He was literally driving across the accessible parking spaces and inching closer and closer to my car.
At one point, we were just sitting there staring straight at each other through our windows, both waiting for the car ahead of me to move. I was already so close to it that I basically had nowhere to go. I couldn’t move forward, I couldn’t really move to the right, and he just kept creeping in from the left like he knew eventually I’d have no choice but to let him in.
And apparently he was right, because my options were either to let him in or risk getting my car scraped because some random guy couldn’t wait his turn for fast food at 1 a.m.
I let him in.
But I absolutely laid on the horn.
He looked at me. I looked at him. Message received.
He also had a girl in the passenger seat, so at least someone else got to witness the whole performance.
Then he finally got to the speaker, and after cutting through the parking lot, forcing his way into the line, and nearly hitting my car…
this man ordered five nuggets.
Five.
Nuggets.
I was genuinely offended, you were willing to introduce our insurance companies to each other for FIVE NUGGETS? 😭
Not even a full meal. Five nuggets.
And somehow he still wasn’t done being annoying.
After ordering, he barely moved forward even though there was plenty of space in front of him, which meant I couldn’t properly move up either, and neither could the people behind me. Maybe it was a coincidence, but considering I had just honked the absolute shit out of him, I had my doubts.
The employees looked exhausted and, of course, he was rude to them too.
Eventually, he got his five precious nuggets and drove off.
I figured that was the end of it.
It wasn’t.
He drove for maybe ten seconds, pulled into the parking lot, and parked right next to the restaurant.
That somehow annoyed me all over again.
So you nearly hit my car because waiting another two minutes was apparently unbearable… only to park twenty feet away and eat your five nuggets?
Earlier, I’d considered getting out and confronting him, but my cousin stopped me. Probably for the best. Getting into an argument with a stranger at 1 a.m. over five nuggets would’ve been ridiculous.
Then our food arrived, and when we went to leave, I realized the exit took me directly past where he had parked.
My cousin noticed it too. He looked at the guy’s car, then at me, and said:
“You can honk at him again now.”
I considered it for approximately half a second.
Then I drove past his car, held down the horn, and gave him the biggest middle finger I could manage.
He saw it. The girl in his passenger seat saw it.
And all he could do was sit there with his five nuggets and watch me drive away.
Petty? Absolutely.
Worth it? Also absolutely.
I just hope those five nuggets were good.
Flipping him off was.
