Cost per km in EV

I wanted inputs on my calculation, please suggest what am I missing

I will be using Adani AC 7kw charger put up in my society for charging. It's tariff is roughly Rs. 12 pkwh. I am assuming 6 km pkwh efficiency and so energy cost as Rs. 2/km. In this I have accounted for slightly more units required and slightly more efficiency. I am told EV tyres need replacement in 30k kms if you aren't a very composed driver (I am not) so I am assuming 0.75-1 rupee extra for early tyre replacement. On maintenance, I am assuming savings of abount 25 paisa per km. And for DC FC on highways it will be about Rs. 4-5 per km during the trips, so blended adding Re 1. So total of Rs. 3.75 per km.

Cost of living has begin to sting bigtime

My friend was pretty fed up of trains and had moved to drive to and from office in bkc from kandivali daily. Yesterday he was back in train. We asked what happened, he said everything has become very expensive but salary hasn't increased as much. Budget was going haywire so had to cut down whatever he could. So commute by car is now stopped, so has holidays (no travel last yr), and eating out. Things are really looking bleak.

Why it's important to let chinese compete in higher priced EVs

I can understand why Indian manufacturing needs protection. But our guys anyway top out at 25-30 lacs. Beyond that, EVs are mostly anyway by outsiders, isn't it better to let them come here and compete and give citizens better products at international prices? Below is and example of how ix1lwb screws Indians vs chinese purely due to competition.

The BMW iX1 LWB (U12) shows a significant pricing and feature gap between India and China, primarily driven by the intense competition in the Chinese EV market and local manufacturing scales. While both markets share the same stretched body (2,800 mm wheelbase), the Chinese spec offers higher performance and more tech for a much lower price.

Pricing Comparison

The iX1 LWB in China is significantly more affordable, with massive dealer discounts often bringing its starting price below the equivalent of ₹25 lakh.

India Spec (eDrive20L)

China Spec (sDrive25L / xDrive30L)

India Price₹49.00 – ₹51.40 Lakh

China ~₹22.98 – ₹32.74 Lakh (approx.)

Deeply discounted vs India to compete with BYD

Feature & Equipment Differences

India receives a single, value-oriented "Performance" trim, while China has access to high-end luxury features and dual-motor AWD performance.

Performance & Drivetrain:

India: Only available as the eDrive20L with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup producing 204 hp.

China: Offers both the sDrive25L (FWD) and the high-performance xDrive30L with dual motors and 313 hp.

Interior & Comfort:

India Omissions: The India-spec LWB lacks ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, and the massage function that is available in higher-tier Chinese variants.

Safety & ADAS:

India: Includes a basic ADAS suite (Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection) but lacks the more advanced Level 2+ features found in top-tier Chinese models.

BYD sealion 7 didn't feel luxurious

For the price, one expects the feeling of luxury too. It's not that they didn't put materials and tech, but it just didn't feel like a 50lakh car. The AC struggling even in 37 degrees is just unacceptable. The AC had to be on full blast which made so much noise It felt like a wagonr. The high stance, firm suspension and lack of width didn't help either. Every single road bump and adulation was distinctly felt in the back seat. Plus dark interiors made it look smaller than it is. I don't know how they are able to sell

Unless BJ party loses, most likely we will have E30 on or before 2030 and just like now, they will force you to destroy the car by not giving you any option. How long can E20 cars survive on E30 petrol?
