Hey Folks,

I have a small bit of experience getting old PC games to run on my modern laptop but I'm not an expert. Let me know if this isn't the right community to post in.

Current Status:

Plugged in an external CO-ROM to run the disk 1. Would not install from the disc directly. Copied all disk files to a folder on desktop and installed from there. Installation worked but during install it appeared to be un able to find and hence unable to install a few map pak files ( .pak files I think ) ( I also looked in all the data files and didn't find those files anywhere so that leads me to believe they get installed at some point when you insert disc 2 or 3 or 4, Also, at no point during the install process did it ask me to insert Disc 2 or 3 or 4. I ignored all of the ones it couldn't find and made it to completion. During Install it wanted me to allow installation of Punk Buster which is the games anti-cheating software for online play and it wanted me to install DirectX9.0c. I allowed both but of course the 21 year old DirectX installer from setup didn't run. Obviously I have DirectX12 since I'm running Win11 Home. After reading online I tried to run the DirectX End-User Runtimes Web Installer  from the Windows Download Center to try to get the specific DirectX9.0c but when I ran it it just states I already have the most up-to-date version of DirectX and there were no further options..

Other Tweaks I have Done:

1.) I made sure the Direct Play Folder was checked inside of the setting menu when you hit the windows button + R and use appwiz.cpl

2.) I ran the compatibility mode for Win XP SP3 and recommended by online research and ran the .exe as an administrator.

3.) I ran the compatibility troubleshooter which ended in nothing and they sent a "report" to Microsoft about it.

4.) I Checked the box for Disable Fullscreen Optimizations in compatibility tab under properties

Any help would be appreciated
