Thinking about switching from T-Mobile Mobile

T-Mobile just hiked my rate for the second time in two years, so I'm leaving.

My wife and I only need the minimum cost unlimited call and data plans with calls to Canada.

There is a 50% promotion going on now, but I have until August 25th to move.

There is a 7 day trial, which I guess I can cancel after 7 days and switch to the plan/promotion that I want. I'm not sure about this.

Looking for advice on how and when to switch. We each have Pixel phones. Mine is an 8 and hers is a 7. We live in Illinois.

Thanks for any advice about optimizing switching, and what kind support we can expect. I have a friend who's currently on Fi and likes it.

Gracie Jujitsu embodies the classical philosophy of Tai Chi

From the first time I watched Royce Gracie in the UFC (which has an interesting history), I felt the kinship between Grace Jujitsu and Tai Chi.

First and foremost relaxation and breathing. Sensitivity, connection, neutralization, and egoless non-competition. Unfortunately, much of that is being lost in modern day Tai Chi, but I am glad it is being well-preserved by Gracie Jujitsu.

I strongly recommend that anyone who wishes to study Tai Chi (which requires a long commitment) to begin their journey by studying the philosophy of Gracie Jujitsu. You can begin by watching the original UFC champions which introduced Gracie Jujitsu to the mass martial arts world. Gracie was less like a wild boar and more like a relaxed python.

My approach to reading Proust

Rather than reading Remembrance as a novel, I am reading it as a way of recalling memories, maybe memories that have been previously lost.

I might read one paragraph at a reading and see what, if anything, comes to mind. Maybe I'll write something about what comes to me though I hesitate to call it a memory because memories are funny things. Often I remember myself in the third person, which in itself is quite interesting.

Here's to recollections, whatever they may bring, and to our own personal artistry. I think Proust would approve.

A good example of silk reeling, moving from soft to hard energy.

The key is to relax and move the energy like water. The water can be soft or gentle, or strong as if it is striking a rock. Relaxation and open energy channels are fundamental to Tai Chi movements, whether for health or martial arts.

One of the best instructionals for the serve and forehand drive that I've seen. Comments?

One of the best instructionals on the forehand drive that I've seen. It's actually the way pros really hit. Watch Ben Johns and ALW. 👍

Who offers reliable customer service

The reason I'm leaving T-Mobile is primarily because of T-Life and the growing reliance on automated customer service support which I find totally useless. I've never had a problem solved by the so-called AI customer services. With this in mind, are any of the major carriers or MVNO's offering reliable customer service?

My experiences with Google Pixel support have been good, and my son has been using Google Fi for several years. I'll pay extra for reliable support.

Chris Haworth's forehand drive technique

It appears to be significantly different from other pros. I've tried to analyze it. It looks like he is hitting from the inside out with a wide variety of sidespin combined with topspin that allows him to shape the ball and drill the ball with great precision. Any thoughts?

The essence of Daoist cultivation?

I think in 90 seconds, this video captures the essence of Daoism that I am following. Simplicity, naturalism minimalism. Instead of being acquisitive, return to the feeling of being young, inquisitive and wondrous.

Switching from T-Mobile

After two price increases in one year with T-Mobile, I'm looking to switch. I prefer local support which I can get with the new Verizon reps on Sherman Ave. or ATT.

Has anyone switched from T-Mobile to ATT or Verizon? If so, I would appreciate it if you would share your experiences. MVNOs aren't as convenient, but I would consider it if there are good experiences, especially technical assistance when required.

Thanks!

An argument for " free will" á la Bergson

Henri Bergson's philosophy argues for conscious free will (I would call it "conscious choice) by referencing perception and the evolutionary development of vision.

Bergson, in Creative Evolution, makes the case that the fundamental purpose of vision is to "focus" consciousness on the many possible future actions that it may take. The fundamental purpose of consciousness (the élan vital or vital impetus) is to act upon matter with "radical novelty" as it evolves in duration (real psychological time), and perception presents the possible lines of action.

Duration itself would be the process of memory. This duration (evolutionary time) is not spacialized, but is non-spacialized, heterogenous, and continuous memory. This is in contrast to scientific time which is spacialized, homogeneous, and discontinuous (thus creating paradoxes such as the ones credited to Zeno).

In essence, there is literally no evolutionary necessity for perception unless there are choices to be made and therefore no evolutionary basis for eyes and vision in a deterministic universe. We all know this intuitively. We "see" and then make our choices

What's more, Bergson further notes that "vision" follows many evolutionary paths among different species as consciousness makes choices and experiments in novel ways with its exploration into the world of matter. That many species have developed eyes in many different species would provide some evidence for consciousness across many life forms.

What exactly is the "brain"?

For those who define consciousness as some sort of emergent manifestation of matter, could you define the brain from me, because as far as I can tell the whole body is making decisions independently of the brain, e.g. the enteric nervous system (gut), the heart, the spine, and the immune systems. The immune system, for example is aware of itself and non-self (foreign invaders).

Wonderful Swimming Dragon Fist instruction

Lots of great instruction on this new channel. Sifu San San is now teaching the Swimming Dragon Fist which I've seen on other YouTube channels, but this is the first I've seen with very detailed instruction.

I'm a member of her community and currently she's giving two 1.5 hours lessons each week that include warm-up exercises and form instruction. You can join her community on her home YouTube page. Right now it is only $4.99 a month. She deserves community support for such excellent sharing of knowledge.

What's the best way to use DonorsChoose or are there alternatives.

Hi everyone,

I am retired, living near Chicago, and have set aside a budget to donate to local schools on a monthly basis.

I just recently funded a project on DonorsChoose for 27 copies of a book for classroom reading which had a 2X match, so I was very happy to help.

I do not have any contacts in the Chicago education community, so I don't know what is the best way to contribute. Is DonorsChoose the best way? They have high administration fees for low budget projects.

I know that the money I contribute is just a drop in a bucket, but I want to do something to help children succeed. Right now I am focusing on matched projects that I can fully fund. Any advice is very much appreciated. Thanks!

Getting my feet wet on DonersChoose

I am a retiree living near Chicago and just funded my first project. It was a request for 27 copies of a novel for classroom study. Since, I am a big believer in reading and it was 2X matched, so this was a perfect project for me to fund.

One thing that really bothers me is the $30 fee attached to small projects for essentials which are generally around $100. I would love to fund such projects, but the administrative overhead is prohibitive and an inefficient use of money. I think the best way to get these types of projects funded is for two or more teachers to work together as a bundle and try to get a 2X matching. It also helps if the project doesn't have a wide variety of material, so it is easier to make a decision.

I'm going to be relatively active in the Chicago area and hope to fund several projects this year. Personally, I couldn't be happier helping great teachers and wonderful students.

How to use Donorschoose effectively?

Hi wonderful teachers!

I just discovered DonersChoose and I was wondering if this is an effective platform for supporting local education. I live near Chicago.

If so, are there any suggestions concerning how to choose a project? There seem to be so many classrooms that need attention even for the most basic educational needs like pencils. Are certain schools more likely to get funded than others? I want to help the best way possible.

If there are better ways to help teachers find classroom needs, please let me know. Thank you!

Very affordable online Tai Chi/Qigong Instruction

I have been following this channel for some time. The instruction is excellent. She is offering two members only 90 minute livestream classes each week on Sunday and Wednesday. Membership is $5 a month and you can join from the channel's home page. I'm a long time Yang style and Qigong practitioner (35 years) and can definitely recommend this instructional channel. I think at $5, it is a tremendous value and you can end your subscription at any time.

8x42 with a wide diopter range under $250

Hi, because of the significant differences between my right and left eyes, I need a wider diopter range than the common +3. I'll be using it for nature and birding and the lighter the better. Thanks for any recommendations.
