How to get back to normal?

Nearly 10 weeks post op (L5-S1 endoscopic discectomy) and still struggling getting used to bending down like pre op

I have made good progress in starting to hinge down to pick up stuff/get back to normal but I still can’t help but feel some tension in my lower back even though I’m ensuring I have perfect form. Is this normal?

Also when does bending (flexion) if ever becomes normal?

I was asked to grab a 15 LB dumbbell (off of a rack close to the ground) for an exercise by my PT, so I got down on one knee, picked it up, and lunged back up, bc I was afraid of putting my spine into flexion under load. My PT said I should be able to comfortably grab the dumbbell without thinking about it too much, and that the problem is in my head and I need to learn to trust my back.

When did flexion for you guys become normal again without having to over analyze it?

Do you think applying ED will increase your chances?

I know there’s no statistics out bc it just got announced but what do you think? I’m considering it bc I’m already a weak applicant (working on it)

Have you played football after a surgery/injury?

Looking for some perspective
I am a HS football player (LB) who suffered a disc herniation during deadlifting
Suffered terrible sciatica for 8 months, then got an endoscopic discectomy (L5-S1) almost 2 months ago which took me out of the pain.
I will be cleared by my surgeon to play full contact football after 3 months post op, but unsure if it is worth hurting my back again due to the nature of the sport and potentially dealing with chronic lower back pain/sciatica all my life. I could choose to step away and focus on building a bulletproof back but I would likely never play a down of football again.
It's too soon to tell so I'm not making any decision yet.
What are your experiences? Have you been in a similar situation?

Have you felt symptoms get worse at any degree following the first PT session after the initial 6 weeks of no BLT?

Basically the title, had symptoms get worse, not pain but worse nonetheless. My PT said it was to be expected bc it’s the body moving again after doing nothing for a long time. Usually this happens after my home PT sessions too.

Have you experienced this? Is it normal?

How is education quality at FAU honors program at the main campus (not Jupiter )? And just general experience?

I’m asking this question because I’m debating on whether to go to FAU honors at Boca or be a standard student at more competitive schools like UF and FSU.

However for pre med I’m hearing I’d struggle more at those bigger schools because it’s more competitive within the student body, harsh grading curves, massive lecture halls, etc. (I’d barely make it into those 2 colleges) and honors programs have smaller classes, priority registration, etc.

Do orthopedic surgeons experience chronic pain?

Hello!

I am interested in sports medicine orthopedic surgery, as a high schooler.

I was inspired by a neurosurgeon doing a discectomy on me and relieving me of agonizing sciatica, and wanted to help athletes like me.

However it is also because of that sciatica that’s making me wonder if the job comes with chronic issues after years of performing surgeries, as I understand it’s a physically demanding job.

So I’m wondering if orthopedic surgeons experience chronic pain specifically because of their job? Does it depend on what operations they do, or how/where they practice?

*Sorry if I sound naive, don’t know much about this field 😅

Hello, just got an endoscopic discectomy L5-s1 for a 4 mm disc herniation causing radicular symptoms down right leg

Sciatica is gone post op, although I am feeling weird sensations in calf. Why is this?

Also my incision pain is interesting. It’s better on some days, worse on others. It’s not linear for me.

How do I help it heal quicker?
