Jazz guy Jazzmaster convert
Listen. I just got my first JM last week imported from Japan and it’s the best. My new #1. A phenomenal guitar and it can’t see why all the cats weren’t trading their L-5s and 175s in for one. That’s the post.

Serious. It’s a great jazz guitar, perhaps even more so than a telecaster. Does that plinky swinging thing really well. Neck pickup and rhythm circuit has the tones. I know about Mickey Baker but why didn’t the cats pick this thing up? The shape (best Fender shape IMHO)? Any of you MFs playing a JM? I just got one from Japan and it does the thing better than my tele.
I’m looking for people to play jazz with. I am a former jazz trombonist who picked up guitar a few years ago and I want to play with others and all that.
Don’t mind the dirty ass grill.
Hi! I just ordered an MIJ Jazzmaster. I plan to string it with flatwound .12s and actually play jazz on it (wild!). I'll probably put a small shim in the neck pocket. Anything else come to mind with setting up this particular model?
I’ve become enamored with Ed Bickert’s comping. What would you practice to make this effortless? I find I really have to think about using rootless voicings and triads in that way.
Picked up this used 2011 Edwards E-FA200MA this week. Solid wood and nitro at this price feels crazy. Great sound and a great jazz box.
Why isn’t Charlie Hunter more talked about when we talk contemporary players? His stuff isn’t harmonically super hip but it does groove pretty hard and he plays like an organist. It’s not like it’s smooth jazz. Funky, a little poppy, but absolutely monstrous playing.
I just picked up a vintage Polytone Mini Brute II. It sounds great and the innards look super clean. However, it picks up the radio a little. Worse yet, it's the local Christian pop station. I put a ferrite bead around the power cable and made sure the pre-amp shielding is solid. Is this just how it is with these guys? Is there something else I can DIY or would I need a tech to service it? Notably, the radio still happens when no guitar is plugged in or if I'm running the main out to an external power amp.
Edwards FA200MA. Made in Japan. An excellent ES-175 clone.
I little arrangement of one my favorite pop tunes. Could it be played better? Of course!
I've been eyeing vintage Ramblers. They're hella cool and I wish they'd just make one in Japan but alas they don't. If I'm looking for a small archtop that I can play unplugged for practice and amplified for fun are they worth it?
I posted this prototype last week. I’m calling this thing Proxy by Juris. Some rough edges on this prototype. Currently wire with a tone switch and a spin-a-split for the neck pickup (like on the very cool Westville Westel). When my dual gang pot arrives I might wire it with a master spin-a-split but I’m also a neck pickup guy.
